Thanks anyway, PP told me how to do it. On the 3.5 inch displays you have to carefully break the adhesive Bond on the back side from the bezel with something sharp and carefully pry it off to get to the board inside. Sometimes the LED strip foil connection breaks and you can reflow the solder. I'll see what happens.

Do any of you know if the backlight on my present display is fixable?

You do cross them. Just twist them up to get the correct length if yours happen to be not correct.

My whole life I have driven tractor trailers. I feel like such a dummy when I am shown the simplest tricks that I never knew with smaller boat trailers. Safety chains and cables. It's so easy to adjust them when your cables are too long for the given application. You do not have to cut them to length. All you have to do is twist them in a linear fashion from the hook to get the desired length. Then you still have the chain length or cable when you need them for something longer. fwiw.

If anybody cares I talked to the designer of these things months ago he told me quote unquote -- "You can use any release on these." He actually discouraged me from buying last year's vapors. The boot that is. He described the whole concept and inception of these and the cost. I know they're pricey but he says even at that he doubts they're going to break even on these. He said they very carefully discussed making these at all because of the potential for losing money on them. The molds alone were 200k. He thought that these boots will bring everyone forward in relation to waterskiing advancing. Not just radar - everyone.

@The_MS Money? Anybody that can afford a new Nautique doesn't have to worry about how much it'll cost. This gets more ridiculous every year. I can barely afford a new ski.
