  1. wouldn't they have noticed the speed was slow for his other passes?
  2. Got it also. Giving the magazine to my coworker who wakesurfes. I didn't even bother to flip through it.
  3. Rod, aren't you in Sacramento area? You have to be able to find some consistent drivers. So I sorta went through this with my wife last summer. She had never driven through a slalom course but had operated I/O boats pulling tubes and stuff. So she knew basic operation and some general safety. Thankfully where she learned to drive me was on a lake without islands as that just complicates the learning experience. I felt once she was in the course she did a pretty good job and didn't notice her swerving around at -22/28. She does have a STRONG desire to be a good & reliable driver for me which has helped a lot. The biggest thing for us has been to find the RIGHT way to communicate. Same thing with teaching her to back the trailer. What seems to work well is for me to explain what she needs to do, and coach her through it once or twice, then let her practice on her own while I keep my mouth shut.
  4. Wow. thats a great price. Whats the difference between this and the DLX line. Also I bought a handle through cottonwood a few weeks back and was very happy with the quick shipping and best price I could find - by a large margin!
  5. Cant say for certain but in jump the switch would activate before it was in the course when i pulled skiers doing full cuts.
  6. Picked up an 02 SN 196 this fall. Spring cant come quick enough. Tower is long gone. I bought my ram 5 years ago with the intention of needing enough power to tow a ski boat... http://i641.photobucket.com/albums/uu136/keithncollins/Ski%20Nautique/IMG_0619_zpsm464caqi.jpg
  7. I did some research on the topic myself this summer. No confirmation on what was done to the actual pro tour 190 boats which were supposedly modified for this reason. There was a guy that had a regular 190 and his buddy had a protour 190 (not actually used in the protour) and the spray chimes were identical. Supposedly you could file away a bit on the chimes and it would knock the spray chime down another line length.
  8. Per my 02 SN 196 manual, it says "The propeller shaft stuffing box should be checked frequently (with the engine off) for excessive leakage other than a few drops per minute. This rate is acceptable and expected. I heard 1 drop for every 10 seconds which is about the same as a few per minute... Speaking of which, I need to adjust mine!
  9. I am removing the tower off my 2002 Ski Nautique 196. Tower was installed by the factory according to the previous owner. It has 4 kicker speakers in an enclosure with two board racks that will hold four wakeboards/surfboards. Will likely fit other ski boats. Its powder coated black, and was stored inside. It also folds down (rearward). The rear brackets are 86" wide. Front is 65". and front to back is about 60". Prefer local sale but buyer can pay shipping if we go that route. 10. I am Keith, started slalom skiing when I was 9. Was skiing local tournaments in middle school. Went to Western Regional's a few times, Nationals once with lots and lots of local tournaments between. Skied 4 years of collegiate and it was the most fun I ever had on the water. Took about a 5 year break and just joined the local ski club this summer and purchased our first boat last week so it looks like were back into it...
  11. Skied collegiate D1 from 04-08 in the West Coast. We had some good skiers on my team (I was 5th in our Mens slalom rotation and could get into 35' so there was a big discrepancy between most of the other teams who were struggling to make a pass. We also has some open level skiers in our region and then of course skiing nationals we got to ski against the powerhouse schools with actual "pros". Should they be allowed to ski? HELL YES. All of the "pro" skiers were just as friendly as everyone else and when it came down to watching them, everyone on the shore was amazed at watching them skiing. Yeh without them, my team would have gone from 5th or 6th place at nationals to probably 5th or 6th place at nationals (they still would have -38/-39' AM skiers) so the chances of making a big impact in overall placements might not change a bit. But I think the most important part to take away is the "pros" were rooting along with their teammates no matter if they are running -39 or 26 long line - which is what collegiate skiing is all about - Team Pride. They were always super supportive and really wanted everyone to have fun and were partying next to you on Saturday night. In my opinion, having them only grows the sport, making friendships, and if even a small percentage of that group after college can find the means to waterski (life's expensive, especially when your in your 20s and starting a family, house, etc.), then its a WIN.
  12. Just picked up an 02 SN 196. Its my first boat. Tower's gotta go though! http://i641.photobucket.com/albums/uu136/keithncollins/Ski%20Nautique/IMG_0619_zpsm464caqi.jpg
  13. Can you confirm the spelling of the Nigerian prince for the money order?
  14. I seem to recall a photo in Waterski Magazine years ago (late 90s maybe) that looked like it had a center mounted driver. It was an unfinished boat that was stripped of interior, windshield etc. Basically looked like a boston whaler. an internet search couldn't find it so it probably doesn't exist.
  15. @MISkier thanks for the idea. We are running into the same issue for our 2 year old who has a hard time sitting on the seat still without launching off. I was thinking of a seat belt. She loves buckles...
  16. Is there a way to cant the front supershell with the white heal cup? I took my first two rides tonight on it. Its certainly different from my Animal and took about 3 or 4 passes to where I felt like I could turn on my offside but overall it wasn't as big of a jump. Anyways I noticed that because its so locked in, it was driving my front knee at an awkward angle and was a bit uncomfortable on my right hip. I was thinking I could move it around but the little plastic adjusters wouldn't move the heel cup. I just took the white heel cup off and realized its screwed in place. Is this normal to want to adjust the angle of the front boot or should I just learn to live with it? Below is the setup with the heel cup removed. Their are four holes (highlighted) plus the two adjusters (circled in red). It almost seems like the adjusters are useless if the heel cup is screwed into place no? http://i641.photobucket.com/albums/uu136/keithncollins/Capture_zpsyb51fj5g.png Also should I protect the carbon plate where the boot hits it? I noticed it already was starting to damage the finish. I was thinking just a thin piece of tape or something?
  17. I think that one has been for sale for a few months now. I think I called him about it but decided it wasn't worth the trip from CA. I believe it was a mechanically sound boat, just needed interior and I wasn't fond of the green. I think he upgraded to a ZO boat if I recall. Hope it works out.
  18. Thanks for the tips. I was thinking of leaving the laces untied on my rear animal for the release purposes. Maybe next year ill move to the R-style boot. To be honest I haven't come out of my ski boots in at least 15 years and probably not since I was a little kid at 24 mph going over monster wakes. I almost always just blow the tail out... Never had an OTF so the release mechanism is the only big concern I have since the idea of coming out of the front and not the rear terrifies me. Ill be conscious of leaving the hardshell on the loose side to get used to it.
  19. @skierjp Does Miami Nautique really not offer refunds/returns on the Supershell? No mention of that when I placed my order online. My size seems pretty straightforward according to the Reflex website but I am wondering if I can exchange the liner if I need to order the thick one instead of the thin one I ordered (before I heat mold it of course). I just ordered the supershell over the weekend. This will be my first hardshell and I am really excited to try it. I have Animals and just getting back into skiing after 5 years off after college. My front foot is in excruciating pain after 3 passes so I am really going to the hardshell for comfort but I am excited about performance as well. Any recommendations for a new hardshell user? I am keeping my rear animal and was planning on just setting the front one right where my old front binding is/was.
