    Boat house lift

Looks quite similar to a Doozie. Ours doesn't have the pulleys on the beams though and our cross beams are welded on, not bolted. It's been installed since 1995 with only minor maintenance. I would send some pictures to Doozie as @JackQ recommended and see what they have to say. Worst case scenario is you buy some parts to retrofit what you have.
  2. There is an outfit in Hickory, NC that is taking tesla drivetrains and batteries for conversions. They also create a motor control unit. Outfit name is HSRmotors. I saw an early 80's Porsche 911 that had been converted, it was defiantly a cool looking car. I don't know much about EV but wonder if something could be done to get a single output shaft.
  3. Definitely an icon in this sport. Thoughts and prayers to his family and friends.
  4. Condolences to the Horton family, so sorry for your loss.
  5. My Fogman's. I had a bad bad fall and was getting back into the boat when I pulled my feet out. Lake is about 40ft deep there so there was no way I was going to get them back.
  6. There is a well known Nautique website that has an ad titled "Lakefront Guest House" on it's opening page. I would contact Jeff, the owner of both said website and the house. The Lake Norman ski club has submersible courses (Lake Norman) for it's members and one permanent course (Lake Davidson). I am not sure about Little Mountain, but I would imagine others will chime in that have contacts there.
  7. I like the lack of color!!
  8. Thoughts and prayers with his family.
  9. F! engines are probably the most efficient engines on the planet. I used to not have a lot of respect for the F1 drivers and then someone told me to pay attention to what they are doing while they are driving. They are constantly changing the car and engine while driving. They not only change it based on normal track locations but make incremental changes during a race depending on strategy and what their race engineer tells them.

    Boat insurance

Sounds good guys. Quotes with ski safe are around 150-300 depending on options.
  11. When I first read this I thought you were talking about New Belgium's "Fat Tire" bike they give to their employees.

    Boat insurance

@oldjeep what happens if the boat gets damaged or stolen during the layup period? Are you covered there, just not on the water?

    Boat insurance

Allstate quoted 395/year, Erie is 471/year, I was mistaken on the 150/year difference. For reference this is for a 95 Nautique with 15k value and a $250 deductible. I'm going to have them requote with a $1k deductible. I'll check out Skisafe

    Boat insurance

In an effort to get a new policy on the boat, I got two quotes from our agent. One from Allstate and the other from Erie. We have vehicle and home with erie, but they were ~150/year more expensive. The other thing that I found odd was that they add a 40% surcharge because they informed me that our boat goes over 50mph. I let them know that that speed is not possible with our boat and they said they still couldn't remove the surcharge. I would go with Allstate, but it appears our agent stopped offering it. So, I just wonder what everyone else is using or what others have observed with insurance.
  15. @skinut it was fluid dynamics based.
  16. One sign that winter has lasted too long! Today's google doodle bringing back a lot of memory's from grad school.
  17. I was seeing if anyone knows this boat? 2017 Nautique A friend of mine and myself have tried to contact them several times to no avail. We're thinking something is wrong with their contact information or they have sold it.
  18. Yeah, to do it the easiest get a pair of jumpers or a pair of combos. That way you can ski off the end of the pier if possible.
  19. Congratulations! I would not walk but down the isle, but instead ski off the end of pier at the end of the ceremony and make a lap back towards the pier for pictures etc.
  20. Looks like I missed out on that one. Had an obligation I couldn't miss and didn't look or really pay much attention for a few days. Does anyone know if the cylinders on these style of lifts can be rebuilt? I was browsing yesterday and saw a lift that needs either new or rebuilt cylinders. I called the manufacturer and asked and they said they are not rebuildable. I find that hard to believe as we have a lot of hydraulic equipment where I work and we have never had an issue getting something rebuilt.
  21. @Bdecker I'm in NC, I'll take a look at it on Craigslist.
  22. @6balls personally, I don't think there is a big difference with either a vertical or cantilever as well. Now our HOA prefers the cantilever. We will be the only boat on our dock, 15 slips, that have a lift. Even though we have prior approval for a lift, we're just trying to make sure no one is upset after we put it in. The one other consideration with a vertical is the outside width of it. We have 10' to work with. I see some are 108", but I'm not sure if that is outside or inside width. I haven't seen as detailed of a drawing on the verticals as a cantilever. I'm finishing up with document that will be sent to the HOA on boat lifts so they will include that in the bylaws. I'm going to include both a vertical and a hydraulic in it and hope for the best.
  23. I actually don't mind the drive because I am planning on traveling some with work to Michigan and some other states as well. I can just work these plans into picking up a lift. Albeit, I'll have to drive instead of fly, but at least it's not 100% lost! Most lakes around here have boat houses with overhead lifts. It appears that some states have a lot of the non permanent lifts and that is what I am trying to find. Thanks @skihacker that is good to know. Thanks @Carl but I need to have as non-obstrusive lift as possible and I don't believe our HOA will like the wheel. I'm looking for a cantilever hydraulic lift where most components are under the water at all times.
