  1. Thank you for taking the time to find that @gcam4. I found the location on Maps, and I'll try to convince my dad to pull me up there when I get back on the lake.
  2. To those it may concern... The first video is of Johnny back in '10 at his lake. It skips his first pass (32 off, since he is at the end of the lake), so the first one is 35 off. It also skips 38 off, so the next one you see is 39 off (since he starts from the end of the lake again). He then takes two attempts at 41 off. The bell is a tradition that he started, and you ring it every time you get a new PB. I recorded the second video in '15 (again at his home lake). He was coming off a knee injury so only did a few passes. This one is clearer because I got a nifty video editing app (!) and labeled the passes. He probably could have gotten deep into 39 that day and maybe a little of 41, but decided to stop after 38. Make sure to adjust the resolution to 720p. Thanks for posting those @ToddL! Do you know Johnny?
  3. @gcam4 , Thank you! Could you clarify the location of the course on Lake Wylie? I looked up the intersection of 74 & 485 on Maps and searched the river around that area. I must have been looking in the wrong place, so could you provide a road name or building that is on/close to the shore near the course (for reference)? Thanks again!
  4. I saw it too! I prefer the long haired woman option...
  5. I live in Fort Mill (slightly south of Charlotte, NC so it is in SC) just a few miles from Lake Wylie. There is a course on the lake but it is semi-private, which means I am "at the mercy" of the owner to decide when I can ski. Does anybody know if and where there are other courses on public or private lakes (that I could set my own schedule with, and pay a little money if necessary) in the Charlotte area? Preferably 30 minutes to an hour maximum from Fort Mill?
  6. Thank you again @Ilivetoski. What a faceplant! Looked like he dug a little too deep when s turning to tighten the rope... Almost had 3!
  7. Thanks @Ilivetoski. Do you know what the date posted is so I might could find it easier (not very experienced with Instagram)?
  8. I just read in an article by waterskimag (dated June 27) that said Nate Smith ran 2.5@43 off again late last year in Winter Gardens, Florida. I never heard about this (and I try to stay on top of slalom news); is it true? If so, is there a video anywhere of it? Link
  9. Oh and put the people in the front of the boat, not the back.
  10. I free ski behind a 1980 Galaxy that's about 21 feet long. It weighs 3500 pounds. Needless to say, it's a big boat with an even bigger wake! I always ski at 15 or 22 off. The wake is a little softer there. If the line is longer, the wake is too wide. If it's shorter, there is a steep ridge from the deep V hull. I tried 35 off behind it for fun but couldn't do anything due to the ski almost getting ripped off my feet at the wakes. Trim seems to make only a small difference - the white foam area of the wake gets wider but not much shorter. Speed doesn't change the wake much from (30-36 MPH). Hope this helps if the boats are similar at all (ours has an I/O too). The deep V almost makes it impossible (I weigh 145 - it's easier for my dad who is substantially heavier). As far as style, bend your front knee over your ankle (which is normal I think) and bring your hips up to the handle. If you stay back like this (with "soft" bent knees), you should pop right through (with only a little air that becomes normal). Of course, if you lose form, you will crash hard (I've had quite a few OTF). Like I said, this will only help if our boats are similar (and most I/O boats have pretty similar wakes). Or you could just buy a racing boat. I saw someone skiing behind a race boat the other day and there was maybe 3 inches of wake!
  11. I ski 30 MPH because that's as far as I've gotten into 15 off. Yes, 30 MPH is very very hard!
  12. @richarddoane I watched your video about Wide Ride on YouTube and was hoping you'd join in. I'm sure it would take a bunch of practice, and he hasn't had much in the last few years due to a knee injury. (You know what, I think I'm gonna change my estimate - he definitely capable of at least a full pass at 43 off 34 MPH; Johnny is a legend!). To be honest, in his prime he maybe could have equaled Jon Sink at 34 MPH because I hear they were neck and neck at 30 MPH.
  13. I know that some skiers could easily surpass 2@41 at 30 MPH (especially since those skiers can get 2@43 at 36 MPH). However, this isn't fair to the purpose of a slower division (unless just having fun in practice). @jcamp True, I've never seen Johnny skiing 34 MPH but I estimate that he could get midway into 39.5 off.
  14. I tried to find the documentary online but the website from which it was sold wasn't available. Just curious, how far into 43 off did Jeff Rodgers go in the documentary?
  15. I thought CP would challenge Andy but changed my mind when he started with only 3 minutes left...
  16. Freddie momentarily blinded Terry with the camera flash or else Terry would have won... while he was soaking in that VERY HOT water!
  17. In addition, the course I ski on is near Windjammer Beach Park. They also have a show ski team. The drive from Fort Mill to Charlotte takes about 30 minutes on average (depending on what part of Charlotte and traffic due to time).
  18. Thank you @Johnbrannan and @dchristman for the formal definitions. Thanks to everyone else for the humor (I think I will call my sets "litter" too from now on or "flock" or "gaggle" or maybe "herd")!
  19. I noticed that a previous post was titled "Herb Cup Day One." Will there be a "Day 2" for me to watch tomorrow? I missed today, so is there any way I could see "Day 1" later?
  20. If considering a move to the Charlotte area, I would recommend looking for a home in Fort Mill, SC. A bunch of really nice people and neighborhoods still being built. I'm not sure about job opportunities (banking is big like @gcam4 said), but options are plentiful due to Charlotte being nearby. As far as skiing, Lake Wylie has some nice spots and a slalom ski course.
  21. @Than_Bogan Very true... I almost forgot my 9th grade English (long summer already)
  22. Agreed. It was a crazy question I know but thanks for the replies
  23. I know a pass is one time through the course, and a set is a group of passes (normally 6-8). However, what is a group of sets called? For example, in tennis it is game, set, match. So, in waterskiing, if you took three sets in one day, what would it be called?
