  1. I think the issue is that there is no option, even if nobody buys one. Look at BMW and Merc, each of their models has a low priced stripped, no features base at the same price you could by a top all optioned Ford of similar size. They probably only sell a few of the base models each year, but the option is there if someone really wants one. Same should be for MC/Nautique/Malibu, the base model should ideally be stripped of features i.e. no bow seats, no interior lighting, minimal seadeck, basic gel patterns/colours, basic screen with ZO, lower spec motor etc similar to when they first released the 2014 Prostar. Each boat is built to order so it's not like they'll have 50 unsold base spec models hanging around, all it takes up is a double page spread in the brochure.
  2. How would it justify a re-ride? he got around ball 1, took too long to slow down and take the slack out and was so far down the lake he couldn't have got back to the centre in time. Looking at the other video of the night slalom where he nearly hit it, he wasn't even "in play" he was waving to the crowd and not paying attention. Simple solution to a jump within the slalom area, strap some tackle mats to the corner of the cow catcher and the blunt end of the ramp.
  3. I think it will be a good thing once bedded in, although hopefully not a one company fits all like ZO for IWWF accreditation. A concern would be the service life and support in 5yrs+ time, it's a harsh environment on the water and even the main boat manufacturers don't get it right (overheating touchscreens, poor airflow to the engine etc)
  4. Jack Critchley just posted his 200, high hours but maga value, even if he engine goes you'll be quids in with a new block.
  5. I wouldn't worry about it too much, Liquid Leisure are selling their boats at what look to be good prices, Oxford have their fairly new 200 up as their new one is probably coming soon. Talk to Simon at wake and ski boats about a prostar (much better IMHO 😉 ) you're right, there are not many about. Chris at longside would probably trade his 200 to get a new one given the chance
  6. Well it worked, happy faces all round 🙌 Just got to plan for a full rebuild over winter now... I didn't need to this time as I marked everything up, but how do you set the timing on the ilmor? (This one has a dizzy), on previous engines I've just had to bridge some pins on the harness to put it in service mode and adjust the timing to 10deg btdc. Can this be done through the screen or do I need some software?
  7. Just exhaust manifolds and new oil to go, but lost the light this evening (10pm here in france) Fingers crossed for tomorrow morning
  8. It overheated on tickover when it ran with the seacock closed for 5 mins. The impeller was near perfect and the antifreeze was still in there from winterising. Putting it all back together now, it turns out this era of ilmor mv8 is just a SBC same as any indmar or mercruiser block, 9 staggered bolts under the rocker cover and 8 short below the plugs. Inspecting the gaskets, there looked to be a small leak between the inlet manifold gasket and interior of the block which may have been the source of the oil in the water. We'll see how it runs afterwards, might be a fix for the holiday then winter full rebuild (see pic of bore!)
  9. Well the head gasket looked ok on the odd side. Still thinking it is the head gasket though as it did overheat, just it's not done any real time since though so wasn't really expecting to see a full blow through. The coolant runs in the head were fully clogged with limescale though.
  10. Just the boggo standard 5.7 unfortunately Can't do any other tests on hols, luckily I brought the torque wrench!
  11. To me, it sounds like a coil breaking down. Grab a multimeter and check that each coil pack is OK (search the coil number for the diagnostic sequence and expected resistances), run the engine up and get it nice and toasty then check the temperature of each coilpack to see if there is one that's hotter/cooler than the others. If you can't find a diagram, then just work out a test sequence where the resistance between each pin is tested against the other, earth and the king lead(s) and compare results. Then check for shorts on the trigger wires for the coils, then check for loose terminal and earth connections
  12. I have written that on my kids trick ski "LOOK UP!"
  13. I made a new plate out of some G10 to get it right on my kids ski, so have fun and get making 👍
  14. If you're still having trouble, it might be time to bust out the wallet and pay for a couple of lessons at a ski school. Once you've got up behind a tournament boat a few times, first on the boom, then on the long line you'll get up every time behind your boat
  15. lol, I've got one in the garage. Not used it for over 20 years. Also got a colortune (which I used 2 years ago tuning an LPG v8 and melted the plastic cover 🙄 )and a carb balancing kit plus an electronic ignition conversion for a 1960s triumph herald for some reason?!
  16. depends where you're going, but Spain to Greece is like flying between Atlanta and Dallas.
  17. Having gone through something very similar with mine after a surf boat wake flipped him over when floating in a donut when he was 5 or 6. Lots of understanding (I know, its hard!!), trying not to get upset/frustrated (even harder) we went through at least 2 whole seasons of him wanting to ski, getting the skis on, sitting on the platform then freaking out. In the end, we just had to mess around, swim around the boat, floating with skis on (and off), pulling him on pairs along the beach, pulling him by hand into the boat from a full line length etc.. all to get his confidence back on the water. It took his mate visiting for a couple of days to give him the gee up he needed.
  18. It's a catch 22, the flattest water is typically first or last thing, you normally have to sign on first thing so getting the kids on the water means they get flat water and are straight into it. The downside is you then have to entertain them for 12hrs until 8pm prize giving. The flip side, for example my boy did a comp this weekend and he skied at 16.30 with a 12.30 start, got the worst water as the wind picked up (20mph head/tail wind rather than low single figures at the start/end), had built himself up over the afternoon watching everyone else, was half tired as he'd been running around with the other kids all afternoon and didn't run 26 when he'd been skiing into 30 regularly and spent a couple of days beating himself up about "not doing his best"
  19. From attending a comp a few weeks ago, during slalom everyone was on or around the dock, in the clubhouse down one end of the lake, similar for wakeboarding. Then when it was time for jump, EVERYONE made their way down to the jump to watch. It was also the best place to watch the entire competition, but very few were bothered to watch the slalom or wakeboard from there.
  20. It maybe a French thing, but when I'm over there all I see is trickers. 10yr old kids trudging up and down for hours with their foot strapped in, adults 2/3 up free tricking, 6 kids at a time etc I know the British team favors overall skiers over single event specialists
  21. so does converting everything to ft off rather than rope length, half our clubs run on mph and the others on kph! then it gets really confusing!
  22. I don't personally, but voted yes because almost everyone that has been behind mine that uses A2 on a Nautique (200 and Ski) prefers A1 on the Prostar
  23. When my cable snapped while on holiday I pulled it out with a rope attached to feed back the new one after. Just took it down to a local marine chandlers and asked for a new one, they are all boggo standard steering cables, just have to make sure you get the right length and ends. It took about 1/2hr to feed through and refit and we were back on the water by the evening.
  24. 13yrs on from a double microdiscectomy and I can say that, yes it helped the tingles, muscle weakness etc and I'm 1000% better than I was prior to surgery. BUT it is not a fix all, I still get tingles in the legs, I can ski still but nowhere near the same level as a couple of seasons preop. Fitness is everything, I don't get time to do as much as I want to, but when I can and do get into the rhythm of daily gym, it needs to be at least an hour each day. Mainly concentrating on flexure and core strength.
  25. If it's well maintained the engine should go for at least another 1000hrs without serious maintenance, it's commonplace to see double that here in the UK ex ski school boats
