I've recommended them to two people (free skier and a learning course skier) and purchased one for my ski club (almost exclusively course skiing). Everyone likes them.

2005 Acura MDX. Not the best tow vehicle, but not the worst either. Been in the family since new and now has almost 200k very reliable miles. Great car in general. Lucky to have very nice parents that passed it down to me when my mom got a new car.

 

There are many shops out there that will program EFI systems to run on standalone aftermarket ECUs. I have a hard time believing that a reputable tuning or speed shop could not make someone a new ECU for their GT40.

I am hoping to buy a GT40 boat within the next few years, so I appreciate you sharing your positive result with us. Glad it worked out for you.

@gt2003 We got 2300-2400 hours on my club's GT40 engine before we swapped it. And a lot of its life was spent in salt water with raw water cooling (I know, I know... I have suggested closed cooling to the powers-that-be too).

I'm a big fan of my Eagle vest. Maybe I'm too heavy, because I don't find that the Slasher floats me as much as I'd like.

I also think the new seat is too high. I was looking right at the windshield frame. Really annoying! (And I ski mainly behind Nautiques)

Go for the MasterCraft. Fantastic boats for a lot of reasons!

Don't get the 2006 LXi... Not a fun boat to drive and the wake is no better than a bubble-back TCS1.

I'm in college now. As soon as I'm out and have a steady income, I really really want to pick up a nice 1998 or 1999 Ski Nautique. They're just so great to drive and ski behind. My school's team has a 1998, and I'm pretty attached to that thing.

BTW I do hope you sell it okay. The 1998s and 1999s are my favorite ski boats, and I know I'm not the only one that likes that hull...

Definitely buff it out at least... It's a pretty cheap way of making major potential improvement as far as resale goes. I'm not trying to be rude, but it looks pretty hammered the way it is. Presentation means a lot - makes people think that you've been good about upkeep on other parts of the boat too.

Ran a full pass in the course for the first time ever (I'm a newer skier) - it was at 28mph, 15 off in June

Ran full pass at 30mph, 15 off

Ran a tournament opener at 30mph, 15-off

Skied and drove at Radar Lake

Skied in Arvin, CA for the first time

I know those are all lame scores in the grand scheme of things, but these last few months have been a HUGE deal to me!!

Going around the islands at full speed or with ZO engaged is dangerous and puts unnecessary strain on your skier and boat. Slowwww down to what feels like a reasonable speed. Don't sink your skier, but don't whip them onto the shore either.

I have two identical rope/handle combos. I marked a small part of the handle line on one of the two (to make it so I can tell them apart) with a Sharpie without really thinking about it... Can Sharpie eat away at mainline material? Or should I not worry about it and ski on?

@scorban2 You cannot lose between those two boats!! I have countless hours of wheel-time in my club's 2700-hour salt water 1998 Ski Nautique, and boy is that a great boat. We replaced the engine at ~2300 hours, so you'll likely be okay with 1400, provided maintenance was good! I really like how those boats drive. I've driven a lot of boats, and those are among my favorite because of their decently smooth ride and good tracking.

 

I cannot speak specifically about the 1994 MC, but I have spent almost just as much time in the Nautique as I have in my buddy's 1998 MC SportStar (which is just a tweaked 1995-1997 ProStar) as well as a couple private lake days with my other friend's 1996 MC ProStar 190. Those are great boats too. They ride a little more harsh, but that 1996 ProStar especially skis so nice. That PS and the Nautique ski just as nice as eachother, and I think the PS tracks well too. And that 1994 supposedly even has a softer wake than the 1996...

 

Both are very well-built boats and you'll be in a great spot with either! Pick between the two based off of price, and maintenance. I wouldn't let speed control be a deciding factor.
