  1. @YoKo Your location looks amazing!! When can we visit???😀
  2. @DW OK, thanks. That makes sense.
  3. I might be confused, but isn't this really bad news for old boats? I'll use my 2007 5.7 as as example. If that motor blows up now, it can be replaced with a 6.0 non-cat engine, correct? Or maybe a rebuilt 5.7? But, in the near future I would have to replace it with the 5.3 or 6.2 at a much higher cost???? Sorry if these are dumb questions, but it confuses the hell out of me.
  4. As a recreational skier watching, the adverse conditions provided a much more exciting experience than the sterile conditions at most tournaments. I don’t care about high scores, I like the upsets and the chasing from behind. Great final day!! Best all year.
  5. What's the story as to how it came about?
  6. @Wish Wow! That 2002 Ski Nautique on that trailer seems to good to be true.
  7. @Scott Russell If I had your mechanical knowledge/ability, I'd buy a decent hull from the past 30 years, put perfect pass in it, and go skiing. It will still be something nicer than you ever had. If you want to mess with the engine along the way, that would be great. EFI or carb? Sounds like you could try both on the same engine with your setup/skillset. I don't know how the ski communities work, but if you need to provide a boat to fit the needs of others, just cross that bridge when you get there. In the meantime have fun with a perfect pass boat. On the other hand, if money is no object, then something from 2024 with 6.2 liters, and zero off.
  8. Never been to a live event, but I think seeing the skiing in person would be very cool/impressive. Also really enjoy the TWBC broadcasts, but I have to be honest, I fast forward through every skier. I start watching the women at -38, and the men at -39.5. Watching any of them do their first two passes (or more) gets old. I will stop and watch the dockside chats or Wade's world, but the skiing gets skipped. I don't know what the solution is for TV. I imagine even -32 in person is fun to watch though. Someday I'll get to an event.
  9. @LeonL I love it, and you're absolutely correct!! I definitely avoid the topic. My boss was talking about wake boats the other day and said "those things are like $100,000!". His head almost exploded when I told him how much they really cost. This was right after the release of the new Paragon models/prices. It's also totally relative. I get that. I bet the people on the yacht and private jet forums are wondering why everyone doesn't get one when you can get into the game for only a million or two.
  10. @MitchellM Congrats! That thing looks awesome. @Wish I get what you're saying, but I would be punched in the face if I told any coworker or friend that they ONLY have to spend $5K to buy a ski boat. And they better be good with carburetors because it "needs some fine tuning", whatever the hell that means. I always believe that just because you can purchase something, it doesn't mean you can actually afford to own it. The used (not new) Ski Nautiques and ProStars listed around here cost less than most of the homes they own. Just yesterday, I was made to feel like an elitist jerk by a coworker because I buy beans in a can instead of dry beans in a bag. Maybe I need to hang out/work with a different crowd?
  11. Interesting stuff. I would definitely need a functional windshield though. We're out on way too many cold mornings. I can't tell if Dyna-Ski is still making boats or not, but I would rather have one of their outboards. A 17.5 foot boat with a 150 hp would be plenty for my slalom skills. Probably good enough for some barefooting as well.
  12. Thanks for the replies. I can see the video from Joel on his instagram account, just can’t listen to it anymore. He definitely said to press through your heels and have the ski in front/ahead of you. Spraymakers said the complete opposite in this episode. Man, it’s just confusing for me. I’ve heard the Spraymakers advice way more than the other way around though. Oh well, as long as we’re having fun.
  13. I'm a novice free skier who just listened to this episode. I heard some things that I've heard in the past. Weight on the balls of your feet, stand over the ski, etc. Within the last month or so there was an instagram post reposted on this site from Joel Howley. I don't have instagram, so I can't listen to it again or share it. He was instructing a skier. I listened to it multiple times to make sure I was hearing his advice correctly. Joel told the skier he was too far on his toes, and that he needed to drive more with his heels, and should be pushing the ski out in from of him. This seems to be the complete opposite of this Spraymakers episode. Did I misinterpret either one of these messages? Please help me get the correct info through my thick skull and into my tiny brain, because it's about to explode with confusion.
  14. @LoopSki What position were you in when it dislocated? I have loose joints in general, but my shoulders are really bad. Many dislocations over the years, and both have been surgically repaired. I still can’t do some of the things that most people can. There’s no way I can do one handed turns the way it needs to be done to run through a course. I always ski under control to limit falls, and I always have two hands on the handle. It doesn’t look cool, and I’ll never be very good, but I can still ski a lot. Two hands on the handle with my lats engaged is one of the most stable positions for my shoulders. My point is you might still be able to ski a lot, just not the way you always did.
  15. I watch every one, and absolutely love them. I wish they were longer. The off the water stuff, travel, etc. is exactly what I’m interested in. I think the amount of competition coverage is good enough for me. Would like to see more of the day to day stuff you and your friends/teammates go through. Maybe a little insight into your training activities, both skiing and non-skiing? Anyway, keep them coming. Really enjoy seeing what the life is like. Appreciate the effort you put in to them.
  16. @escmanaze You’re lucky if they don’t surf by you due to the depth, but I don’t think many people are aware that a deep lake helps. I bet I only see about 25% of the surf boats around here actually surf. I think a lot of people buy these boats because that’s what’s available. Within a 30 minute drive of my house there is a Tige, Nautique, MasterCraft, and Malibu dealer. Only other boat dealers that I’m aware of in the area sell fishing boats or pontoon boats. So anyone who goes looking for a family boat around here (and probably in a lot of locations nationwide) will be told a surf boat is exactly what you want.
  17. Last paragraph is so true. We might all be punished for their actions.
  18. I rarely ski past 8 AM, and never take the ski boat out later in the day. Pontoon boat only for those times. I do believe some sort of regulation is in the future. The manufacturers, and owners are their own worst enemy. Bigger and bigger is the only mindset. There was a survey this spring from the Wisconsin DNR asking how people felt about different regulations on those boats. The response was basically 65% in favor of various regulations, and 35% opposed. It's all fun and games until you start messing with the loons and their nests!!!😀
  19. @UWSkier You're probably right, it was a fluke. I remember thinking that day that the wing would make starts easier because I read something on here about it. I'll leave it off for now. I don't get high enough on the boat anyway.
  20. I have a slightly off topic question regarding wings. Since I got back into skiing about 10 years ago, I have never used a wing based off of reading this forum. I free ski about 30-40 days a summer, not very good, and never in a course. I have an HO Carbon Omni. Last summer I decided to try the wing just for kicks. It was one of the most difficult starts I've ever had. I was probably a split second away from tearing my lats off the bone (at least it felt that way). I only miss about 1 start a summer, and it's because of being off balance from the start. It's never because it feels so unbelievably hard. I took the wing off, and never tried it again. I drag a leg when I get up. Was that just a fluke thing, or does the wing make starts more difficult? I thought they're supposed to make starts easier?
  21. Definitely not the same hull as the 196 (or just Ski Nautique as they were called then). Maybe more like the 206 before there was an official 206? Someone with much more knowledge than me can confirm. Noticed it says no trailer. That might account for a few dollars.
  22. Sounds like you need to see a physical therapist in person. Not sure even a water skiing physical therapist could help much on this forum.
  23. @EM_ Wow!! What an incredible story. It was written perfectly. Captured every aspect for the reader. Glad you’re back, and better than ever.
  24. There’s a Silver Nautique one lake over from me. I’d pay extra for that boat. Not sure I would for this ProStar.
