  1. Going to be in Sonoma/Napa next week for work...any ski schools in the area, or at least somewhere to watch some skiing??? thanks
  2. 3X on the stringers... It’s worth whatever the market will bear... I purchased a solid low time ‘89 Brendella for 3K...
  3. Have a 18 Senate Alloy-its a great ski...I use mine as a crossover. Radar Katana is a bit more forgiving and easier to ski. For open water skiing why mention rope length? Doesnt matter other than getting where you want to be in relation to the wake...
  4. Anyone interested in skiing the course when it’s up and running shoot me a PM with your phone number and I will send out a group text when the course will be set up...
  5. Unfortunately Lily is a pretty small lake, don’t really see the chance of getting a permanent course. I want to be a “good neighbor” and even though it takes a bit of time, we will remove the course daily. No issues with weeds, they do chemical treatment. Water is very clear even with the water temps in the 80’s. They dredged the lake several years ago. Also, due to my work sked some weeks we won’t even be skiing it. I expect some people’s heads to blow off at the sight of buoys...that’s why I contacted the DNR and town board before I did anything. However we know about 1/2 the people that live on the lake so that will help. Also there are still a LOT of “weekender” folks that won’t even know the course was there during the weekdays.
  6. Thanks Ed...as a novice (at best) course skier it’s a great way to get into a course without too much embarrassment...will probably never ski tournaments, but being a Type A I like to push myself personally.
  7. Radar Senate line...
  8. Purchasing a EZ-Slalom soon...will be a temporary site (in/out daily) on Lily Lake in Western Kenosha County. This is a 85 acre spring fed lake with very light use during the week. Not planning on any weekend or holiday setup due to too much other boat traffic. Course will be open to anyone who wants to ski it. My Brendella is getting a 3 event PP ASAP and we also have a MC Stars and Stripes available as well (no PP but just cool to ski behind). My work sked is pretty unpredictable, I would like to have the course in the water at lease a few times during the week. There is a Resort with bar/food/lodging available on the lake (owner of the resort owns the MC and skis as well). Very nice public launch also on the lake. I don’t think there are any other public courses in the area, but I could be wrong... Would like to coordinate with others for optimum usage if anyone in the area is interested... Let’s have some fun and get others involved with this sport in a no pressure environment. I also have training skis, youth skis and adult HO Combos available too. Let me know... Thanks Dave FYI- no permit issues with the DNR (temporary course, CO was helpful as well) and I did a presentation to the Town Board this past week. They were glad I let them know what I was planning on doing and were supportive.
  9. Hydrodynamics and aerodynamics are very close cousins...aircraft wings and water skis share the same traits...a short thin wing rolls quick, has a high load per square foot, goes fast but doesn’t like to behave well at slow speeds....a long, thick wing has a light load per square foot, rolls slow, goes slow but has excellent low speed control...sound familiar??
  10. I like it...but I’m a bit of a “out of the box” thinker...and not a competition skier...
  11. All good point...thanks!!
  12. Thanks all...sent an e mail to PP this morning. Will give them a call tomorrow as well. I’ve really heard nothing good about the Pertronic(sp?) electronic ignition conversions...most have said run away from it if possible...maybe there are others that work better... Thanks again....
  13. On a single deep water start with both feet in-Knees together cuts drag...lean back, let the boat do the work...if you keep your CG (center of gravity) aft that will help keep you from being pulled over the front. If you come out of the water like you’re sitting in a chair you pretty much have it. Stand up as the boat/ski speed comes up...sometimes the urge to stand up too early results in an unscheduled swim... Two hand over the top grip for two skis, I suggest baseball grip and handle vertical for coming up on one-I’m right handed so for me that’s the hand on top...RFF rope on left side of the ski-opposite for LFF. I could never do a leg drag start, but lots of people do them effortlessly... Have you determined your dominant foot/leg? I’ve always been RFF...switching might not hurt as suggested above, or do the push test... I’m sure these items have been already covered... I’m not so sure that having more ski out of the water will help...but I could be totally wrong... There are some really good videos on deep water starts on U tube...
  14. Ok...thanks for the heads up on PP...will look into it...thank you... Dave
  15. Question: What did they use for speed control for ski boats with carbs??? Was it just throttle and dual speedos for competitions??? Does/did anyone make a mechanical speed control? TIA Dave
  16. Perhaps PFD’s in various sizes for the deer and the other animals that come down for a drink... Don’t forget several life ring stations as well...
  17. Hmmmm...kinda figured out now why my eyes are burning today...did a OTF yesterday @ Stillwater...they said it was “loud” when I hit the water...live and learn. A wee bit stiff today...
  18. This unit is older than dirt...think it came with the S&S MC or, if not was retro fitted at some point... Will look into the mounts and over condition ASAP Thanks for the clamp link...can modify if need be...
  19. Hmmmm...great pic again...thanks
  20. Great picture...thanks...so how does the actual boom mount to that??
  21. Pretty sure “dope on the rope” applies to me X2....
  22. You will like the Senate Alloy...I upgraded from my Butterknife to that ski recently... You don’t have to have the latest and greatest to enjoy time on the water with your family..those memories will last for ever... Was looking at open bow fish and ski boats, but ran into a low time (for the year) 89 Brendella this spring for 3K...put about another 1K in upgrades (GPS speedo, new alternator, prop rehab, trailer upgrades etc). For my level of skiing it’s great...runs perfect, no issues other than the new post mount I fabricated. I can do all the work on the boat myself so that helps... Have fun, enjoy family time...that’s what it’s all about...
  23. Was humbled to say the least @ Still Water yesterday... However, I was FULLY EXPECTING that... A bit of my back story... I had a double compound fracture of the left Tib/Fib in 2008. Fib came out just below the knee, Tib just above the ankle. I’m sporting a 14 inch titanium rod, 2 plates and 8 screws. I literally had to learn how to walk again and was off work for 6 months recovering...had therapy 3X per week. Had 0 range of motion in my ankle when I started therapy. I started skiing last August after 12+ years off the water...I skied to late October, picked it up again April 1st of this year...the course skiing bug bit early this year so I was working on getting to be a stronger skier and working on technique. So yesterday was the first attempt at course skiing... Think I had 6/7 consecutive pulls thru the coarse, so I was getting a bit tired by the end. As planned, I initially skipped the entrance gate at first. I skied 15 off @ 26 Was suggested I ski the half course initially to get the timing down(excellent idea). Even with skiing the 1/2, the balls come up unbelievably quick...and that’s at 26- can’t comprehend what it’s like @ 36... On the second pull made all 6 on the 1/2 (with the entrance gate skip) Tried the full width course on the 3rd pull resulting in a epic over the front wake crossing yard sale @ 2 1/2...driver and observer said it was loud...(bonus 1/2 ball for that??) It kinda went downhill from there, with missed balls and losing count resulting in missed balls. I skied full width on my strong side and 1/2 course on offside (another good suggestion by Brian). Took a few more falls. Takeaways: Overall it was humbling but VERY positive... Forgot everything I was working on once on the course...(as expected and mentioned in the 1st post replies...) I fully understand now the concept of making space on the course...just have to learn/work on how to do it. I know what I need to work on for next time Course time is paramount for moving forward Thanks to Brian and all the suggestions/tips from the other skiers @ Still Water... Anyone have a pre owned course for sale?? Dave
  24. Found a ski boom in the shed for the old MC Stars and Stripes...appears mostly intact, however not sure how it mounts to the center post (if it even does). Appears the mount is missing...would like to try it for teaching new skiers. Any pictures available so I know what I’m looking for in the shed?? Or, I can fab one up if need be...I made an awesome new lower post mount for my Brendella but that’s another story... Thanks in advance as always... Dave
