  1. https://www.instagram.com/tv/CbTY8NBALhU/?utm_medium=copy_link This week, I've handed the reigns of We Love College Waterski over to several collegiate teams as they document their Spring break trips! One of those teams, the University of Cincinnati organized a tournament at Lapointe Ski Park and skied with a bunch of the people down there! UC's captain, Maya Blaxall, took the opportunity to interview Jeromy Schall of the Waterski Broadcasting Company! Check it out! It's a very short two minute interview!
  2. For any ballers who live in or around Ohio, and don't keep up with the Facebook or Instagram pages. This year we have 3 Slalom only tournaments, two 3-Event tournaments, and the state championship tournament before Midwest Regionals! We're also having a specific weekend for college aged skiers to aim for and ski with their friends! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out either here, or on Facebook!
  3. I used normal superglue that you can find in a hardware store for this exact problem with my RTP two years ago. Use a lot, and clamp it down while it dries.
  4. I went looking and didn't see it posted yet. Sorry if there's already a thread for this!
  5. I don't know if it's covered in the video (I'd love to watch it later, but don't have time at the moment), but the best ski advice that I heard recently came from a coach who said it as plainly as possible. "Nobody gives a sh*t if you start at 22off, or at 24mph, the only thing that people might actually care about is where your skiing ends" really put some perspective on checking egos in favor of a better set
  6. JayShower above sent out the full list, not every team has set up a link to their website on that page, but they should all be on Instagram! I'd suggest finding the college that's the best fit academically, then checking if they have a ski team. It's easy enough to start one that your son will be able to ski anywhere they go.
  7. We all started somewhere, howd you find your way to that first tournament? If you've never been to one, why not?
  8. Not a particularly popular one, but Grant Schipper's trick run from 2016 Nationals is an amazing tool for introducing new people to trick skiing. He does a ton of tricks ranging from surface turns, wake tricks, and then a few flips. It's a well done run, but nothing that brand new people would think is impossible like toes or ski-line tricks
  9. These videos are electric! It "premiered" during the MCWSA Winter Conference Banquet and the room went crazy for it. It was cool to see 300 skiers react to it all at once!
  10. @Hallpass i agree with what you're saying, I think that the biggest challenge with reaching kids before college would be getting kids from school to the lake when their parents haven't waterskied before. Someone above you mentioned the various school snowski clubs that have been set up and basically take kids to mountains and teach them how to ski with their friends. Maybe a system like that for schools could work for building up access for kids to the sport On your point for college being too late, it is late, but it's also the first chance for many people who didn't grow up skiing to be exposed to the sport, and if we survey those in that 30-60 age group you mentioned, it might be interesting to see when they started skiing. Post-college expenses hurt retention, but it's very possible that the younger people in that age group picked up competitive skiing in college, saved up for a boat and water, and came back. It's not a perfect system (or possibly even a good one), but I can see the benefit of growing through college teams
  11. Final update on the Waterski Bachelorette, the contest ended last night, and Daniel from Nebraska won it all! Since last week another the last four videos have generated another 5,000 views for skiing based content. I had fun with this, and I'm hoping that anyone who followed along also had a good time, and even better someone in that 94,000 views discovered it and looks into getting on the water!
  12. One of the big points in the video is about how a pattern of less snow in the winter is hurting snow ski numbers. This makes me wonder, could watersports be the response to that issue? Could an increase in warm days in the year create a demand for warmer skiing and snowboarding options? The answer to those demands wouldn't be tournament ski centered resorts, but cable park resorts could be an option. Cable parks follow the ski-mountain business plan by selling equipment rentals and Season passes to make a profit. I'd imagine that a luxury cable park similar to a ski resort could be profitable and drive interest in watersports as a vacation, or weekend trip. I don't think it would ever happen due to the necessary capital, and insane amount of risk this hunch would bring both in liability and on your investment
  13. Hi all, A couple of weeks ago I reached out to McClintock's Ski School about possibly doing a partnership with We Love College Waterski and doing a fun contest to try and drive ski-centered fun during the cold winter months. They responded enthusiastically, and connected me with Radar about joining in on the fun. Soon after, Denali came on board and we decided to put on a 2 month long "Waterski Bachelorette" contest. It is almost over and I just wanted to share how its been going as the last week comes up. The goal: Create more personality based waterski content where skiers share their experiences with their followers, and show off 3-event waterskiing The Incentive: Radar generously donated ski essentials to the program, promising gloves, a vest, a rope, and handle to the winners. McClintock's offered virtual coaching, and Denali made shotskis. They were all incredibly generous with their offerings for prizes. When I reached out, I expected maybe some stickers or koozies if I got a response and they all came back with amazing prizes. The Content: 10 contestants from around the country have submitted 38 Instagram Reels (minute long videos) through their personal or team instagram pages. Each week the Bachelorette creates a recap video awarding Reel of the week, and eliminating one or two contestants and giving the prompt for the next week. -- 44 total videos Reach: As of posting, these videos have a total of 89k views over the past 7 weeks. Moving Forward:From what I have heard, these videos are reaching large and diverse groups of people. I have had a few groups say that they found WLCW through those videos, and while its not as fun when an energy drink company reaches out, I am hopeful that these videos have reached people who aren't skiers or are potentially interested in learning to slalom, or maybe jump on a trick ski. If just one person sees these videos and decides to try something new on the water I'd call the Waterski Bachelorette a massive success. If you have any thoughts on it, I'd love to hear your feedback This Week's Recap: https://www.instagram.com/reel/CZsKBiXAKP8/ Link to the WLCW Instagram Page, you can see all of the Waterski Bachelorette Videos under the "Bachelorette" Bubble at the top of the page: https://www.instagram.com/welovecollegewaterski/
  14. Just wondering? There are a few amazing Overall skiers in recent memory, but do how do you compare them to single event specialists?
  15. @BraceMaker I'm so glad that you brought up Corn Fest. It reminded me that as much as BoS may not participate in it, Show Skiing may be an amazing avenue for growth in the sport. I'm lucky enough to have a show team near me and the dues for them are stupid cheap. It cost $160/year for an adult, ~$200 for a family. That's lake time, gear, coaching, and tournaments for an entire summer. Show skiing could be a possible avenue for more 3-event exposure
  16. Dorien Llewellyn announced today that he'll be doing an ongoing series cataloging his upcoming season! Hopefully it takes off and give a more behind the scenes look at how the sport works!
  17. Dorien Llewellyn just announced that he's doing a running vlog/series of this upcoming season. Hopefully this type of content can spread and help get people interested in the sport! It'd also be great if TWBC reaches out to him and incorporates it into their stuff!
  18. @Vernon Reeve @tjs1295 F1 was exactly what I was thinking about when I initially asked the question. It's a stupid expensive sport with little access for most people to participate in, yet it is exploding. I think that their shifting focus from companies to drivers has been a big factor in its growth in the past few years.
  19. @Stevie Boy I like your suggestion of some sort of documentary. A couple of years ago Igor Morozov and a company put together a jump centered documentary called "InFlight" and since then he's always been a guy I look out for on tournament rosters. It could be interesting to do a Hard Knocks type thing for next years Waterski Pro Tour, give some background to what goes on at the events, and help people get to know the top competitors in each event.
  20. I was thinking about what other niche sports have to make them thrive (aside from money), and the biggest thing that I could see that skiing doesn't really have is a focus on the athletes as people. I know that I personally care far more about tournaments when I know someone competing. Now it's a lot to ask of skiers to meet hundreds of people, but promoting a para-social relationship where prospective fans can feel connected to a skier might help people become more likely to watch events as they happen. On a more selfish note, if skiers could have interviews pre-taped before tournaments, it might help break up the same couple of ads that play over the course of a long 12 hour live stream by adding more content to cycle through
  21. Lots of skiers in Ohio today, groups in Cincy and Dayton braved the cold and ran some passes. Overall I think 20-30 people hit the water this afternoon!
  22. @Broussard thank you for the advice! @unksskis I was only able to take one "real" one last season and went straight out the back when I hit the ramp (I've since found out that's super common to do the first time 3/4ing). The video my buddy took had me landing around 85ft upside down, I bumped my letter to G for the last set or two, but i had been on D all season before that.
  23. I've been jumping for a little while, and decided to try 3/4ing on my last set of the season. It went reasonably well timing wise, and I'd love to actually put time into learning it properly. Now my question is should I look into getting a sling before next season as I actually learn to 3/4? Would it be better to get comfortable with the cut, distance, and timing before adding more equipment? When I eventually do get a sling, what is a good way to warm up to it? I've heard that it's important to wear it on a few sets, is a good progression similar to learning to jump again? (Ride overs -> singles -> 3/4s)
