  1. D2 scorebook was posted yesterday, and the remaining emails with donation instructions have been sent out! If you pledged to make a donation, and did not receive an email, please let me know! Either by DMing me here, or by sending an email to WLCWpod@gmail.com Again, thank you so much to everyone who participated in the fundraiser!
  2. The D1 scorebook was posted this afternoon, and jump scores have been confirmed. If you sponsored a D1 skier, check your email! Donation instructions should have been sent to you! Thanks again for everybody's support for this fundraiser!
  3. Nationals finished up this afternoon, and with it the Jump-a-thon is also over. Together as a ski community, we pledged over $3,000 towards Zack Worden's recovery. Thank you so much for everyone who supported this endeavor. From @Horton who shared every post I made about this, to John Mommer who gave me the initial go ahead on the idea to try it, Allie Steele who forwarded me the an email with the Militia Clothes fundraiser that inspired me, the skiers who jumped their hearts out this weekend, and most importantly the people who pledged to the skiers and are going to make a difference with their donation.
  4. Today is sadly the last day of Collegiate Nationals, but that also means there's another jump event today!!!! D1 Men's jump will finish off the tournament, and Goodman Skis pledged $5/ft towards Quinn Haines' (Alabama) jump! Along with Goodman's massive pledge, there are many other sponsored skiers whose jumps will support Worden's recovery. If you'd like to join them, it is not too late to sponsor a skier, even one who has already jumped! https://forms.gle/DZzuUWciN6ndPvFK9 Thank you so much to everyone who has sponsored a skier, shared the fundraiser, or told a friend about it! The support from the waterski community has been unreal!
  5. Nationals continues today! The D2 Men just finished jumping with Auburn's Jack Glendinning jumping the furthest of any sponsored skier at 89ft so far. D1 Women are about to start, and our largest potential donation will come from Alabama's Taylor Grathwohl's jump! You can still fill out the sponsor form. Any amount you wish, and any skier that you want! (Even those who have already jumped)! Thanks so much to everyone who has contributed!
  6. Thanks for the great podcast! I have super limited water time, and listening has really helped me ski better when I get the chance! My biggest question would be if you guys have ways to "secretly" coach people? I had a ton of brand new skiers on my collegiate team this past year, and I struggled with ways to try and get them to improve without full on coaching sets. They were new enough to the sport that I 100% focused on keeping them happy with as little pressure as possible, and I was worried that giving them a thousand tips would overwhelm them.
  7. Nationals is well underway! D2 women's jumpers are earning their pledges! You can find the full list of today's sponsored skiers at WeLoveCollegeWaterski on Instagram if you'd like. Today's top potential donations come from KJ Miller out of Cal Poly! She's expected to hit at least a 90ft jump with $3/ft going towards Worden! You can still pledge to any skier you'd like, even the ones who have already gone! All donations count, and can be in any amount that you'd like! https://forms.gle/DZzuUWciN6ndPvFK9
  8. @klindy that's an amazing question that I don't have an answer to. You'd have to ask the man himself
  9. Thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far! Right now skiers across the country have pledged just under $1500 in donations towards Worden's recovery!!!! The first jump event is tomorrow and it will be Women's D2! The sponsor form will be open until the end of Nationals on Saturday night! Every donation helps a ton! Pledge 5 cents to a 100ft jumper, that $5 donation will make a difference!!! https://forms.gle/DZzuUWciN6ndPvFK9
  10. Fundraiser Update! Nationals is just a few days away! The form for pledges will close Saturday after the tournament finishes up. So far we have over $1100 in potential donations!!! Thank you so much for everyone who has pledged to donate!!!!! It's not too late to pledge, you can put down any amount that you wish! Everything counts and is deeply appreciated! https://forms.gle/3fHbzyTpWBb2VXt66
  11. @lpskier that's great to hear! Zack’s one of the most positive skiers I've ever met and I'm glad to hear he made it out to Worlds
  12. Hi yall, just wanted to give a quick update on the jump-a-thon fundraiser. We're up to almost $900 in pledges!!!! Thanks to everyone who has pledged so far! The biggest possible donations are coming from Cal Poly, Florida Southern, Auburn, and from everyone who didn't land a jump at Regionals! If you are thinking about sponsoring a skier, the form is linked above! Every penny counts, and no pledge is too small!
  13. Thank you to everyone who has made a pledge so far! After just one day we have promises that will total out to $600 (assuming sponsored skiers meet or exceed their regional scores), with huge donations coming from the ski communities at Florida Southern and Auburn! Someone also pledged to every skier who did not land at regionals! If you work with a team who had people not land, they have potential to be part of a huge donation! Get them on the water!! The form will be open until the end of Collegiate Nationals, if you want to pledge something, no matter how small, it will make an impact!
  14. "A call to arms to the Collegiate Waterski community: Zack Worden needs our help As most of you may know, Zack had a terrible jump crash that broke his back, sternum and many other serious injuries that left him in the hospital with surgeries unsure if he’d regain his ability to walk. Luckily his spinal cord was somehow undamaged, but unfortunately, he was between health insurance coverages at the time of the injury. That said, the mountain of bills he faces through his surgeries and recovery will be daunting." In the wake of Worden's injury there are many opportunities for the waterski community to come together and support one of our own. I know that many of you have already donated via the Militia T-Shirts and Tank Tops, for those who wish to support a different way, here is your opportunity. You can elect to pledge a donation tied to a collegiate skier's jump performance at nationals next week. Simply go to the form linked below, select the skier whose score you would like to tie your donation to, and enter in your pledge amount. https://forms.gle/Xp3VbjSAVrJ99c8v9 This is a walk-a-thon style fundraiser where you can pledge any amount of money towards jump scores at collegiate nationals. Select the jumper that you would like to "Sponsor", for every foot that they jump, that adds to your total pledge amount. ex. You pledge $1/foot for Jess Nieters (PUR)'s jump. She jumps 49 feet, you donate $49. You can pledge any amount that you wish! After the conclusion of NCWSA Collegiate Nationals, your jumpers results will be sent to you, and instructions for how to donate will be sent along with that information. Thank you so much for everyone's support, and jumpers remember to FLY FOR ZACK
  15. I found a video of a guy who I assume tries extreme sports, and his most recent one is jumping! It's an awesome example of what our sport is if anyone wants to check it out!
  16. This week, my guests were not collegiate waterskiers, or waterskiers at all. They are Drew Saplin and Andrew Rosas from "The Most" Podcast. I took this opportunity to answer "the most" questions about the sport, and other topics that came up! I tried my best to answer their questions, and I had a few guesses at waterski history (there are a few wrong answers, but the podcast is still fun anyway). Even if you know a lot about competitive waterskiing, this episode is still fun to hear a couple of comedians riff about a sport that they are just learning exists! Be sure to check out their podcast as it releases on podcast services soon! https://roosterteeth.com/series/the-most Highlights are available on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/p/CTFv2ghAx9X/ You can find the audio versions of the podcast on: Spotify, Apple and Google Podcasts https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/we-love-college-waterski/id1544822419 https://www.google.com/podcasts?feed=aHR0cHM6Ly9hbmNob3IuZm0vcy80NDM0YjBiOC9wb2RjYXN0L3Jzcw==
  17. Hi all, In Ohio there's been a little talk about starting up a virtual ski league to get more people engaged with the sport and give an avenue for people to "compete" without the tournament commitment. I'm just doing preliminary research for the idea. If this were in your state, what would you want from it?
  18. Season 2 of my interview series is here! For the first episode, I interviewed Fallon and Vince from the University of Texas! We talked all about their team, traditions, accomplishments, growing the sport, and more! You can find their team on instagram: @UT_Water_Ski Podcast Highlights are available on Instagram! @WeLoveCollegeWaterski https://www.instagram.com/p/CSwZpxCA0tL/ You can find the audio versions of the podcast on: Spotify, Apple and Google Podcasts https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/we-love-college-waterski/id1544822419 https://www.google.com/podcasts?feed=aHR0cHM6Ly9hbmNob3IuZm0vcy80NDM0YjBiOC9wb2RjYXN0L3Jzcw==
  19. For everyone asking how it effects collegiate, the Midwest (probably nationwide, but im not sure) has required safesport training from at least 2 members on every team for years. When I was at UC, most of us were trained and we just sent in the two most up to date certificates. Absolutely no impact on recruitment or retention of skiers. It even helped a bit as we could group up and do it together. Long story short, as far as sport growth, taking the training has no negative impact. Those of you thinking (hoping?) that this will stifle growth at that level are plain wrong. For asking how it effects the "fun" at tournaments. It hasn't stopped anything in the line of good ol' collegiate waterski fun. What it has limited is the inappropriate contact that happens at the tournaments themselves (during the day, not nighttime shenanigans). I've seen the staggering difference in how people react to unwanted contact and how it is handled. No escalation to a safesport report, but people know how to respond effectively and are confident in their ability to do so or get help. College is no place to draw your line in the sand. The NCWSA has been ahead of the curve on this issue. Hell, MCWSA teams unanimously (and anonymously) voted to include active SafeSport investigations as a cause for suspending a skier from participating in tournaments. As a whole, we want this. We want to protect our skiers, and the sport that we love because at the end of the day, an extra bit of paperwork will not kill it, allowing inappropriate actions from anyone will. That's what drives people away en masse. -side note, I personally think that the Midwest's attitude towards safesport is a good indicator of collegiate as a whole based on the fact that there's 35-40 Midwest teams (the range is due to a couple of teams being one person strong, starting up, or folding), and there are 24 teams combined in the West, SAC, and SCR.-
  20. 2021 Ski year just finished up this afternoon, so I figured that its time to dig this thread back up for the brand new year that starts tomorrow! I also figured that after 3 years of mostly lurking, that I'd introduce myself I'm Joey, a younger skier from Akron, OH. I got up on skis for the first time the month before I got to college. Then I joined the ski team at the University of Cincinnati in the fall of 2017 and fell in love with the sport! I've since transferred to the University of Akron where I am skiing this fall! I started a small collegiate waterski podcast (We Love College Waterski) to talk with my friends, meet new ones, and make an accessible record of the awesome sport that we all love! Outside of the Collegiate section of skiing, I've become more active in Ohio's tournaments and have been running the Ohio Water Ski Association's social media, and joined a few committees to help promote the sport in my state! Love being here to learn and occasionally put my $.02 into the few topics that I might know something about! Can't wait to see where waterskiing goes in the next ski-year!
  21. I'm not sure if anyone else feels this way, but I was surprised by how much I prefer watching trick on the webcast over the other two events. I absolutely love jumping and slaloming over actually doing trick, but even in the younger divisions it's more fun to see how people vary their trick runs
  22. For anyone interested in the final result, but too busy for the video. Here's the scorebook for the virtual tournament!
  23. @klindy thank you! It was a ton of fun putting together! @bojans Thanks! And that's a great idea, either the NCWSA or Midwest Collegiate Region did something similar in 2019, but it was entirely participation based. I think the idea of avoiding scores was to not give the teams with pro skiers another advantage
  24. Over the summer collegiate waterskiers sent in sets to compete against one another in a, *UNOFFICIAL* virtual competition. Slalom scores were self-reported by the skiers, trick scores were judged by a panel of scorers, and jumps were scored based off of time in the air. Additional points were awarded to teams by either wearing bibs in videos (+10), or by sharing the initial tournament announcement on social media (+50/share). Thank you all who participated in the virtual tournament, and especially thank you to Jack Phillipson, Ben Smogard, and Dylan Wick who took time out of their day to score the trick skiers!!! In alphabetical order these teams had skiers participate in the first WLCW Virtual Tournament: University of Akron -- @UAWaterski Iowa State University -- @Iowa_state_waterski Kansas University -- @KUWaterski University of Michigan -- @UMich_Waterski Michigan State University -- @MSUWaterski University of Nebraska -- @NebraskaWaterski The Ohio State University -- @OSUWaterski University of Wisconsin-Madison -- @WisconsinWaterski
