    Not knocking Regina, Manon, Whitney, but it's very cool to see younger ladies starting to ski slalom at a high level. Anne-Marie has definitely stepped up her game, the same for Neilly Ross, Kennedy Hansen, Luisa Jaramillo, and so many others. Hopefully they'll stay healthy and in the game to soon stepping onto the pro podium.

    @Skialex Great advice. Used the 8/32 brass wood inserts. The old screws fit perfectly and the inserts after installing were flush with the ski's top sheet. Thanks.

    In removing a binding I had a couple of tight screws. After applying more torque the screws came loose but I discovered they brought the inserts with them. I had to use a dremel tool to separate the screws from the inserts so they’re done. Before running to Home Depot to purchase some helicoil or zerks inserts I thought I’d check if anyone here had any handy tips on reinstalling inserts. The holes are clean, but I am considering tapping the holes before epoxying the inserts. YT has some videos of helicoil installs but they are all metal machine tool work, so that’s a little overkill, but I want to ensure the inserts are secure. Thanks in advance.

    Dean, that’s what Harald Harb told me when he built me some orthotics for my alpine boots. After a week I put them in my running shoes because my foot was slipping around in the boot and I couldn’t buy an edge.

    I am a seasonal full-time alpine ski instructor at a Utah ski resort. I have three pair of ski boots and they all have custom made foot beds to provide arch support under load. I would never consider skiing a boot with the standard foot bed sold stock with new boots because support is minimal and results in over pronation of the foot in the boot. On the waterskiing side of things this summer I am transitioning from a Radar Vector Boa front boot to a Syndicate hard shell boot and release binding. Is anyone out there using a custom made foot bed in a hard shell boot and has it enhanced their comfort and performance?

    Just got off the lake an hour ago. It was pretty crap with a fair amount of chop and a steady breeze. I told myself to not get too spun up, but as usual got a little agro anyway. Inevitably I blew the fin and landed smack on the side of my head. My ear was really stinging and I was very disoriented for a minute or so getting back in the boat. Now it's better but it still feels as if I've got a pint of water deep in my ear canal, my ear is ringing a bit and I can't hear so well on that side. This was a first for me. Does anyone have any experience with this kind of incident or ideas for remediation. How long did it take for your head to clear?

    I recently pulled the bindings from my Senate Pro Build and put them on the NRG R2. Definitely a few noticeable differences but in modifying my weight distribution a bit I'm really coming to love this new ski.

    Can anyone provide any information or leads on the topic of the physical demands of tournament water skiing. What I am interested in is quantitative data on such markers as heart rate, loading, VO^2 max, myography, lactate threshold measurements, etc. Thanks.

    I feel as if my skiing is progressing but I had not seen any video of it in some time. When I did I noticed that the turns are progressive and laid over pretty well but coming out of the turn I'm getting stood up so much so that the ski is flat even before getting on to the first wake. I've been talking to myself about holding the edge angle stronger and longer, but I'm not sure my brain is listening. Any focus points anyone might share?

    I swear on a stack of bibles this was not me. My ski partner's boat however sank today (9.8.2020) in one of Utah's worst wind storms in years. The boat's still shiny side up at a slip on the reservoir and the plan is to try and get it out tomorrow. I didn't find too much help online, but can anyone point me to a step-by-step engine/components recovery plan? Some guidance to disassembly/cleaning/reassembly of a very waterlogged MC Prostar? Something I can pass on to him to refocus his mind. Right now he's either whimpering in the fetal position on the floor or passed out drunk... or both.

    I'm piggybacking on the discussion Compressed or Straight Legs? https://www.ballofspray.com/forum#/discussion/20067/compressed-or-straight-legs In watching the two best women skiers in the world I notice that while both hold great stacked shape coming onto the wakes Regina Jaquess maintains more of a extended leg stance after crossing the wakes and initiating the preturn. In contrast Manon Costard has a decidedly more flexed knee and ankle position after crossing the wakes. I thought some of the tech wonks on this site might want to weigh in on the relative advantages/disadvantages of this movement pattern. For what it's worth it would appear to me that Costard flexes or retracts the legs allowing the center of mass to cross over the ski and then bring it up on edge quicker as she extends the legs once having crossed over. In staying taller or more extended after the wakes the edge change would seem to me more progressive and drawn out in Jaquess' case. Maybe I'm falling back too much on my alpine skiing background, but I'm really interested in this communities thoughts about turn initiation. The images came from these two YT videos.     @Orlando My mechanic is just a really good mechanic. He's not a marine mechanic per se. He's worked on a few boats, but mostly automotive. The local boat shop charges $120/hr for labor and my guy goes for $50/hr, so it's not really a contest.

    Yeah, you're right, the head gaskets are there because the cylinder heads are attached, but the carburetor is coming off the old engine and that need's gaskets, and then there's the exhaust manifold.

    I am replacing the engine in my boat (actually my local mechanic is) with a remanufactured 5.7l long-block V8. The reman company shipped the engine but did not include cylinder head or exhaust manifold gaskets. The boat will only be running on freshwater. Do I need to use "marine" gaskets or will automotive gaskets work? Is there a difference? Thanks from a somewhat mechanically illiterate waterskier.

    I discovered my flip phone has a calculator on it... who knew? I'm not sure it's up for an NFC chip reader... whatever that is.

    Just got a new 2020 Senate Pro. Smack in the middle is this little electronic gizmo. There's nothing on the Radar site that says anything about it. Do I have to charge the ski before going out on it? :p

    I would say you might consider losing the phone and stepping up to a dedicated video camera with a stabilizing mechanism.     I really appreciate everyone who has offered information/advice. It's been very helpful. I'm just getting back into water skiing after many years away from the sport. I competed back when dinosaurs ruled the earth, but trying to make a comeback. However, first I have to deal with all the boat mechanical issues that just keep coming.

    @DW Man, you're asking questions way over my pay grade. I'm going to have to check the engine block for the casting numbers because I have no idea how old the engine is. All I know is Michigan Motorz asks whether or not you want that upgrade in the purchase. Also, the shop that will do the install is telling me to get a long block. Currently the two engines shown in the size I need, one is pre '96, the other post '96. That roller link option shows in both cases, so it appears as if it's up to the buyer to decide what they want to do.

    I'm guessing this has been asked before but I can't find a relevant thread. In considering purchasing a big ticket item on the ski-it-again website, any suggestions on making the transaction and feeling safe about it? The FAQ on the website says arrangements are strictly between buyer and seller and to make sure the partner is trustworthy. I suspect sellers are legit, but I'm just asking to see if anyone has experienced getting burned, or at least have recommendations on conducting a good transaction.
