  1. I added an hourmeter onto my 2kW portable generator recently. It displays rpm and engine hours and it's simply has a wire tail that needed to be wrapped around the spark plug lead a few times.  Could you do something like that to get an tach pulse?

    @03RLXiyes I am aware!

I am a PP dealer, the new displays are not compatible with the older non GPS modules!

this customer has the old system and is trying to find an

    Older 3.5 inch display!

Ah ok. You weren't specific about that in your first post.

I'm also aware the currently available displays won't work with DigitalPro, unless it has been 6.5ng chipped. In fact that's the reason why I have a StarGazer upgrade kit currently sitting at home ready to put into my boat soon. Wife finds the existing single display a bit tricky to navigate as previous our RLX had 6.5ng and multiline display so she'd become familiar with that menu system.

2024 Senate vs 2020 Senate?  Anyone with experience/opinions?

Buy the one that's the colour you prefer 😁

Reality is there will be incremental differences each year, but what works best for your skiing technique and budget may not be the latest evolution. Ski them if you can.

FYI I've got a 2019 Senate pro build. Love it! Oh, apart from the colour of the rear top deck. I must sticker it sometime as it'll make me ski better 😂

I didn't start to really improve until I stopped skiing -15 and -22 passes. Shorten the line to - 28 and use whatever speed necessary to run it. Slowly increase the speed as you get success.

Were you running passes consistently at -15 and -22 and at what speeds when you made this change to -28 low speed? Trying to understand if your -28 approach is something for course newbies doing -15 at 28, 30, 32mph to try. Thinking no, but want to understand more why it worked for you.

  5. For me skiing at 18.25m (15' off) level it was listening to a Spraymaker’s Gates episode, from that gaining understanding that turn in is at the right speed (not ‘right’ place), then trying it and instantly feeling what they meant.  The key was learning about it being essential to get into athletic stance/stack before the load starts.  Game changer knowledge for me.

Before then I'd not known about why gates were so important, other than them being something to go through.  No one ever said and I’d not read it anywhere.

So perhaps really the game changer wasn't gates at all. It was stance before load.

  6. A way to look at design and utilisation of machinery, and in reality a useful way to look at pretty much everything in life, is think about the average person then recognise half of the population is dumber than that

  7. In that particular incident the court determined it was 75% driver fault, 25% Malibu LX. Could have just as easily been 80% driver, 20% in another Malibu or Mastercraft or Nautique open bows. They're not that different. Some 'better', some 'worse' depending how they're loaded. With all tournament ski boats a bit of weight shift could change the ratios either way considerably. Could have been 60% driver, 40% any Mal, MC, SNOB, Moomba, Centurion, etc fault if say they had a some weight under dash, near empty fuel tank, heavy driver and 2 heavy observers, etc moving the CoG forwards and lowering the bow gunwale. With runabout open bows generally being higher the driver % needs to be greater for an incident to occur, but it can still occur.

We all need to be aware, use good seamanship (seapersonship?) and be careful as it can happen to any boat.

Question? Does the Hovercraft have standard binding pattern inserts front and rear.

ie: Can I just switch my Reflex front and R-Style Rear on there ?

They do now so can fit any standard binding

  9. @OREGON85 whoa up a bit before you start thinking about a drastic action like changing boat. Some the wake you're feeling is from passenger weight and realistically changing boat won't change that if you're still going to have more than driver and observer on board. The remainder of wake you feel is from your technique. It's almost 3 years since your original post. Since then how often have you skied? Importantly are you self coaching, or have you had some professional coaching? Your fear of the wake could be from a quite minor (or major) technique issue. Post up a video if you can. It not as good as in person professional coaching but better than nothing and a whole lot less $$$$ than changing boat!

  10. I'll have to buy https://gopro.com/en/us/shop/mounts-accessories/usb-pass-through-door/ADCOD-001.html to get it to run long enough for lake sessions as we can be there 2-3hrs waiting for turns and there's no way the crew will remember to scan code after swapping battery. If I buy that the door and cable I can power on GoPro and scan QR before they even enter the boat then know it's set and all auto speed start/stop for the whole session.

Looks like may have to add this power setting into the QR code too. I think keeping battery in and changing setting will be best option as keeps GoPro going when boat off between runs.  https://community.gopro.com/s/question/0D53b000098jyurCAA/i-have-read-that-running-an-external-battery-with-the-internal-removed-helps-keep-my-hero-11-cooler-but-the-hero-11-tells-me-to-plug-it-in-a-5v2a-power-source?language=en_US

  11. @Maxsend thank you. My wife gave me a Hero11 Black last summer and I used it on skidoc just with standard settings, no speed activation, etc. Got some good video however often observer would forget to turn it on or off. I was reluctant to play with config too much  (#) but now with your clear guide I'll give it a go before our waterski season starts in a few months.

    # Config and editing had been difficult, mainly due to no internet in the area, only have old slow laptop & iphone 6 with limited storage

  12. @MitchellM what you're looking at is 2003/04 as has the excellent injected Monsoon engine, has perfect pass and compared to the SIA year 2000 example has the newer dash layout etc.  Got to be worth a bit more than that older carbureted boat.

We used to have a 2002 Response LX. Stepping over the dash was ok, but almost everyone needed to stand on the observer seat and that's never ideal. With bimini anyone needs to squeeze through height between dash and bimini & that's quite akward to do. We've no regrets changing to 2003 Response LXi with proper walk through.

  13. I'd become so familiar to outboard tiny wakes, soft pull and loose tracking that my first experiences of firm wake/troughs, solid pull and accurate tracking behind a direct drive were really quite frightening!!!! At 26 or 28mph the wake height was so much higher and caused a few launches 😉 As far as ownership goes I wouldn't go back now but I still do really enjoy some free skiing and teaching with outboards.

  14. Your experience with lightweight outboards is why you're finding it so different. I had same when first skied behind direct drives. The outboard boars are so much lighter with soft wake humps or curls close together. I really like my 2003 Response LXi and a prior 2002 Response LX but it took some learning and confidence to edge right through the wakes. Once you're doing that you'll be fine and will love it.

I still sometimes ski behind outboards. Really like the Magnum 1850's that were built here in NZ. Sadly market too small and they're no longer made. Awesome ski boats, particualry for kids as the wake remains small when slow down.  https://autoinsiders.co.nz/autofair/sales-ad/9937/Magnum-1850-2001
