  1. @ReallyGottaSki Outstanding work. Huge job. Not for the faint of heart, but you're doing it absolutely 100% correct. This will be an amazing boat when completed. I love doing the rehab/restore route so much more than buying something new. Keep the pics coming. Hopefully these wont get lost.
  2. Are we there yet? How many times must we say "beating a dead horse" before we're sure it's dead............
  3. Have to say I'm shocked to find folks continuing to complain endlessly about this. Neither AWSA nor USA Water Ski has anything to say about this nor can they do anything about these requirements. These are requirements from industries outside of the sport, that provide a services to this sport and others. The sport of water skiing can ACCEPT or REJECT. That's the only play. The insurance/risk management world doesn't care if you like them or not,. They are now a core, foundational component to the landscape. A cost of doing business. Period. You can REJECT and take your toys and go home and shut down as not being able to host any events. Or you can accept and like them or not move ahead. The skiing world could entirely go away tomorrow and insurance world wouldn't even notice. I'm sure many here won't like these comments. Oh well.... Invest your energies in something you have a chance to move the needle on. This isn't one of them.
  4. 91-94 MC's are the same hull. Changed again in 95
  5. Would politely disagree with @Dano, not all motor mount bolts of that era are lags going into the wood. You need to put a wrench on them and try to tighten them to see if they're loose at all. If they spin - you have bad stringers. My vintage 92 has an alloy frame around the engine on the inside of the stringers that bolts go completely through and tighten on the outside. Very strong factory set up. Also don't ignore any soft spots in the flooring. A significant warning sign of additional damage underneath. Older boats are great. I love them. But they do require regular care and feeding
  6. @markn - IMO you're way over reacting to a pretty benign piece.
  7. This is a guy who is going to be skiing long line, no buoys, at slower speeds. Not trying to be mean just honestly straightforward, he likely has no practical knowledge of "small wakes" etc. He just wants to avoid the Four Winds type monsters so as not to die trying to cross. We're making this way more complicated than it needs to be, dissecting minute differences between Nautique vs MC vs Carbon pro - where skiing all at longline and 30 I'd bet he couldn't even feel a difference. He's a casual non course rec skier. @SC skier - go buy any of these and you'll have a wonderful life!
  8. @SC skier your identified years of Nautique and MC are the overwhelming favorites. No need to complicate further. Go ski
  9. @03RLXi Terry is one of the best on the planet. Go with what @twhisper says - not what I say
  10. Definitely shorten the rope. I recommend 32 off for best free skiing. An older article from Regina noted that mathematically -32 was the optimal length for best pendulum effect etc. You'll find it much easier to accelerate, better wakes, etc. Suggest also 52k. It will feel fast to you but you'll quickly adapt. Get wide. Biggest problem with free skiing is being narrow. As noted above, speed is your friend. Need to know how to create it, and lose it . Go ski. Once you get a rhythm down at -32 free skiing you'll love it. Then step into the course at 18.25 and slow the boat down a bit to work in timing. Go ski
  11. I bought my 83 (late yr- no wood) in 2017 for $2500. Running, powerslot, 500 hrs . That 79 I’d say is a $1500 boat, as you’re doing all stringers , flooring, engine, etc. stringers snd flooring are not for the faint of heart
  12. The original LaPoint ski.
  13. maybe add a currency exchange rate link....................
  14. Do folks really need a sheet? It's a constant for your time zone.
  15. Really hoped we were all past any further discussion on Safe Sport. Get over it. It's an embedded component of the risk management and legal requirements to produce an event. It's not going away or morphing. Take your toys and go home - that's everyone's call individually, but continuing to complain about it is a complete waste of time unless it just makes you feel better.
  16. Awful audio from Michael. TWBC really should check this better before airing/recording. Poor quality. Do sound checks before starting.
  17. @Alex Brehm- you don’t need a recommendation . ANY of the MULTIPLE world class facilities in Orlando will accommodate you beyond your expectations . Also have to ask- Orlando is in the middle of the state. There are no beaches .
  18. You should be good for another 100,000 miles now. Didn’t have AVR but my cardiac event was 20 yrs ago and best thing that ever happened to me, as it saved my life forward. I quit all the bad and became the poster boy for cardiac rehab . Never looked back. Just turned 67. You’ll be back to 100% . Regardless, we should all avoid OTF’s as they rarely end well. Go ski !
  19. This very old topic of the cost of boats etc. has been beaten to death 100 times over. Read about it endlessly in prior threads. This is merely one of the multiple items contributing to the slow but continual decline in comp skiing.
  20. Certainly safer. No chance of getting anything caught .
  21. “The business realities of a small and declining ski business have necessitated change going forward,” "where the smaller size boats typically generate a significantly smaller margin per build slot. The decision underscores the precarious position of three-event skiing, ........." "the water ski community faces hard questions about the future of the sport with declining industry support." Kudo's to Rob for the candid comments. Life support is the reality. We should expect the trends to continue
  22. @Horton Mr. Horton - have to respectfully disagree. IMO your comments simply confirm that life support is widespread for so many programs, including these two. Hence once can conclude that they are reflective of the wider picture.
