  1. The best thing I've seen to date is side by side courses with simultaneous runs. Even a non water-skier knows who wins and it's exciting for us to watch as well. I know, most sites don't have enough space for this, but for pro tournaments, the sites could be selected with this in mind.
  2. Not sure why the quality of he coolant would make any difference. Anywhere dissimilar metals are touching would be the bolts (head bolts and exhaust and intake manifold bolts) which should never see coolant. Everything else rides on gaskets.
  3. @Ralph Lee - "A pro tournament would be WAY more exciting to watch if there were two suspenseful passes before 10.25." To whom? To most spectators who don't run the course all the slalom passes look the same. Having more completed passes will just bore them sooner... There are not enough of us who understand what we're seeing to make a difference for the sport as a whole.
  4. No exchanger, straight raw water like the 5.7 was. This is also the case for the new 5.3 and 6.2 engines (I skied a set behind Nate Smith's new 2017 6.2 and it is raw water cooled). I really don't see why a ski boat needs a closed system anyway. I'd rather not pay for something I don't need (would not consider taking my boat into salt water for example).
  5. Took my first ride behind the 17 tonight. Like the previous years, no wake to speak of and a very smooth pull. Just ran 6 28s (34.2), but a comfortable feel like last year's boat. Drove for Paul for his first ride (4 32s and 2 35s). The rudder needs some torque, but one thing I noticed is it was pretty solid on the 1,3,5 side which is where I thought the previous boat was weak. I'll know more after some rudder work and a few more driving sessions, but my initial feeling is that an improvement has been made. One other thing, this 6.0 liter engine is raw water cooled which is a change from last year. Summary: I liked it!
  6. Santangelo just took delivery of his 17.
  7. I'm sure the 30 skiers you speak of are high enough on the ranking list to be qualified already... I'm already qualified to ski Nationals on the ranking list, so if I have to attend a mandatory tournament first, I'd rather it be States than Regionals which can be more than 1000 miles away for me.
  8. After thinking about this some more... If you want me to attend Nationals, drop Regionals and make States the mandatory qualifying tournament. Nearly everyone should be able to drive to States (I know some States are large, for example if States were in Tallahassee, it would be a 5.5hr drive from West Palm for me). Just another idea for the pot...
  9. If they're allowed to use the engine to do the fish finding, then the sport should not be allowed in the Olympics IMO. Either allow power or don't...
  10. Motors are allowed if they are not used in the actual competition. IE: there is a bicycle sport where a motorcycle pulls the bikes to speed and then drops out for the actual competition. Skydiving was (briefly) in the Olympics. The plane took them to altitude, but the competition was in free fall after exiting the plane. I've never seen anyone Bass fish while under power (well maybe if they got drunk enough).
  11. @santangelo has a 2017 on the way, so they are certainly still making them.
  12. The accelerometers are different between the LINK version and the standard version due to the standard version being installed at an angle to the center-line of the hull. I know when the 200 first came out that if someone accidentally installed a standard unit for a 196 in a 200, it caused all sorts of problems with the pull (no doubt not just the accelerometer difference). I doubt that happens these days (at least from the factory).
  13. First time I met him was at Palm Bay a couple of years ago. I pulled him in Boys two and he tied the record at the time of 2@39 (with 4 other well known names). That seems like yesterday, and here he is into 41! Great skiing Sean! You and your Dad are such great people to be around, I hope I see you at Palm Bay or Okeeheelee next year
  14. Reporting back on using just the bracket (right side of previous photo posted by me). Totally better video. There is still some shake when the skier picks up the line at the end of the turn, but there was when I tried the Wakeye product as well. As for Wakeye mounts holding up, I've seen two break that were the type with just the rope guide. There are a handful here now with the shock tube guide and I haven't seen one of those break yet.
  15. @SkiJay - I agree that you can't eliminate the issue. However, the mount above when used as the left picture shows allows much more vibration into the image due to the flimsy vertical arm. Tomorrow will tell how much improvement just using the clamp will provide, but I believe it will be significant. No, it won't eliminate the effect, but it should be better. I agree with your last paragraph completely.
  16. I just got one. I tried it out last night using the Vastar mount I bought on Amazon. The results were a bit shaky, but I believe that was due mostly to the tall mount. I just discovered that the clamp itself has a tripod mount in it, so tomorrow I will mount to the Orbitz with just the clamp and see how that goes. See right side of this image:
  17. @OB1 - Right now, the west course in the Main lake is 6 buoys. It is normally 8 and will be changed back I'm sure. We changed it to 6 for the Big Dawg/Us Open for side by side competition
  18. I'm not a fan of ads inline with content. If you must do it, please just use static images. These ads that alternate (or loop through a series of) images are annoying. I have no issue with the left border ads (same objection to changing images though). I fully understand the need to advertise and that's okay with me. However, having worked on websites for many years, the number one complaint by far about our ads was movement, blinking, or pop up/drop down (basically anything that is designed to draw your attention away from the content you came to read). I know it's a difficult position, you want your click-through rate to go up, but you don't want to lose readers. At least you're getting opinions from the readers of your site and that's a good thing
  19. @Splasheye - Awesome! Thanks for that
  20. @Chef23 - If it helps, I believe you would normally get the same engine/hull combination and most tournaments. I rarely ski the 6.2 Nautique as all Promo Team members have 5.3 boats. All the Mastercrafts I've skied this year have been 5.7. I did have both a 5.7 and a 6.0 MB this year, but used the same setting for both. For me at least, I use the same setting for all the boats (B2) except the 5.3 Nautique (B1). The 6+ liter versions of these boats just feel easier to me, so I don't make any changes for them. No system is perfect, but both PP and now ZO are better than hand driving in terms of consistent pulls IMO.
  21. @Chef23 - It's no different than when we had Perfect Pass, people changed their settings based on the hull/engine combination with that system as well.
  22. @FishFreq - Ask @Jody_Seal, he probably knows more about this topic than anyone.
  23. @Stevie Boy - Good thoughts there. When I went up to Jacksonville this spring to ski and drive, I had never driven the new lake there before. So I jumped in the boat with Peter Gloersen (@Gloersen) so he could run me through the boat pattern. I wouldn't even want to drive a new site without a local driver running me through the pattern. Even as wide open as our main lake is at Okeeheelee, some drivers we've had in the past have not turned far enough away from the starting dock to allow a safety margin of space for the skier as they pull out to shorten the line. Not such a big deal for most divisions, but kids in particular might not notice the dock until too late and we just can't risk that.
  24. @Splasheye - Will we eventually see Autotracking information record with the video?
