  1. Slalom records are more likely behind the newer boats due to better tracking imo.

Even the best drivers have better capability to pull a record slalom pass in a newer model boat with better tracking qualities.

Nate, as an example, could likely ski as many 41's behind a ZO SN 196, but his chances of a record pass are more likely behind a SN 200. Hopefully even a better chance for a new record exists behind the latest rendition (of any boat) yet to be released.

  2. @LeonL @DanE - If ZO is locked in on a mapped course the 0.75%/1.6%(+) elevated gate speed is activated, being ~34.5 (for 34.2) until ZO beeps at the gates, then baseline speed is targeted. It doesn't seem to matter even if there is a lengthy approach to the gates, based on some trials this morning.

In an un-mapped ZO start, the speed achieves baseline only, no 0.75%/1.6% elevation. At least based on what was trialed today by selecting an empty course entry (nothing mapped, no course locked in) and the pre-gate speed was pegged to 34.2.

@Ilivetoski - if your mapping "drifted" and the gate beep occurred past the gates the boat may be slowing to baseline at a point when you're expecting more throttle. Whatever the case, it would sure make your gate pull inconsistent from boats mapped accurately.

  3. @MillerTime38, @AdamCord - understood, but BigDawg age cut-off doesn't state when the season starts/ends regarding eligibility.

    The BigDawg rules does state:

    General:

All events will follow the rules of the local governing body, e.g. USA Water Ski (AWSA) for events within the United States and International Water ski and Wakeboard Federation (IWWF) for international events. All qualifiers and event finals will adhere to the rules as outlined by those governing bodies and this document. All participants will be ranked, pulled, and judged at a max speed of 34 mph.

I assume "follow the rules of the local governing body" includes age cut-off definition. If the BD event was held after next week then the BOS event as a dq would be more relevant as controversial imo.

  4. ZO pulls the same without mapping but the gate approach will be different (slower) compared to skiing a mapped course. The course needs to be mapped so ZO "knows" where it is allowing the gate entry speed to be 0.8% or 1.6%(+ setting) above baseline (baseline speed starts at the gate beep).

In a mapped course that has "drifted", if the gate location is way off, conceivably that could adversely affect the start of the pass.

  5. @UWStoutSkier - if after the last oil change, if the old filter's gasket ring remained stuck to the mounting surface of the assembly, then the new filter with its gasket doubles up on it and doesn't seal well or works loose. The engine can lose oil quickly but its usually evident on the engine cover liner (it makes a bit of a mess). Be sure to check that status, remove the filter on now and keep an eye out for two gaskets (the one on the filter and the old one stuck on top or still on the assembly.

Have seen this occur after a dealer oil change, maybe into the 2nd or 3rd set and the engine blew, in this case the rod through the block. Fortunately the dealer did the right thing and replaced the engine.
