  1. I think PS205V, early XStar, early X2 and X1 are one of the best skiing V-Drives and a great skiing cross over boat. It’s a good wakeboard, surfboat that skis very well. If you want a larger ski boat, from the same era, check out the Malibu Sunsetter LXI, they ski great for a large boat.
  2. I live near and ski on Lake Iroquois near Burlington, VT. Typically we ski a few times in April and season begins in May. Often the first outing in April the lake still has some ice. Our earliest time out was Saint Patrick’s Day March 17th 2012 during a record warm spell. Our snow and water ski season typically over lap in the spring and are separated by a month in the fall. Every other year or so we find a way too snow and waterski the same day in the spring. Latest ski was December 24th; Lake Iroquois had frozen so we skied on Lake Champlain.
  3. In Vermont to ski in course without a spotter on public water a boat must be awsa approved and have large mirror.
  4. I have had great luck with a few RGC lifts(http://www.rgcproducts.com/) that I bought used over the years. A neighbor had problematic ShoreStation that he bought new, he was having to replace the cable every other year after failures. He just switched to a hydrolic cantilever lift. I would recommend a vertical lift over cantilever of your lake varies much in level.
  5. This thread http://www.mastercraft.com/teamtalk/showthread.php?t=14622&highlight=history+prostar+95-97 Gives a comprehensive review of this hull. I owned a 99 MC SportStar CB which was the same hull as a 95 Prostar. It produces a great wake for skiing, tracking is just ok, particularly with only a driver onboard. The hull has fairly high sides for a closed by ski boat, a friend has a 98 SportStar likes this attribute for young kids.

  7. I agree seemed like a sweet boat for the money. I contacted Kentucky Inboards, they pointed me to Buxton Marine where the boat was. Another 08 196 went from similar money in Charleston SC last year. I will get one of these years… http://www.buxtonmarine.com/web/used/Correct-Craft-Ski-Nautique-196-2008-Lewisville-Texas/16296322/
  8. Skigirl, Sorry to learn of the trouble with your boat. When replacing the motor you have three options. Purchasing a new ‘Short Block(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Short_block)’ which would be a new or remanufactured block, that you would put your used(or rebuilt) heads on, this probably wouldn’t work for you given the overheat issue, since your heads probably should be replaced. The next option would be to purchase a ‘Long Block(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_block)’ which would be a whole new or remanufactured block and head you would install your accessories(waterpump, EFI system…) onto. The third option would be an entirely new motor and accessories similar to this http://www.skidim.com/prodinfo.asp?number=1630 from PCM, which would include a new block, accessories. This would allow you to switch to a ZO compatible EFI system, but likely isn’t necessary for a repair unless you also want to upgrade. General Motors is the original manufacture for the new blocks, they are marinzed by companies like PCM, Indmar or Ilmore. Alternatively you could purchase a remanufactured block from Jasper http://www.jasperengines.com/marine-products.php or similar. It’s likely you could find local engine shops to evaluate and rebuild you existing block. Ordering a remanufactured block from Jasper or other might reduce your down time. Good luck with the repair. Where in the country are you located? Jamie
  9. This http://www.onlyinboards.com/Details.aspx?ID=43439 06 196 LE with 332 hrs for $24k, seems like its closer to market value.
  10. I agree these sellers seem proud of their boats. One of the 'local' dealers is asking similar money for similar boats http://www.adirondackmarine.net/listingdetail.php?boatid=283 http://www.adirondackmarine.net/listingdetail.php?boatid=282
  11. These TSC 1 GT-40's are stacking up for sale in my area: 2000 SN http://burlington.craigslist.org/boa/4432269472.html http://www.ski-it-again.com/php/skiitagain.php?topic=Search&category=Comp_Boat&postid=27552 1997 SNOB: http://burlington.craigslist.org/boa/4409310833.html http://www.ski-it-again.com/php/skiitagain.php?topic=Search&category=Comp_Boat&postid=27439 The seller of the first two is active on the Planet Nautique forum: http://www.planetnautique.com/vb3/showthread.php?28464-Ski-Nautique-Values 2001 SN: http://burlington.craigslist.org/boa/4412241758.html I don’t know any of these sellers but know many people find these boats desirable. I would be happy to take a look at these boat for anybody from a distance. I was interested in them, but my wife wants something newer and friend who recently hurt himself alpine skiing said I could run his MasterCraft 197 this summer. Jamie
  12. This looks like the boat Jody was talking about ski-it-again.com/php/skiitagain.php?topic=Search&category=Comp_Boat&postid=27377
  13. What year is the boat? If its as described its probably just a cosmetic issue. If Jody is nearby I would have him check out the entire boat before buying.
  14. Broussard, I like the way you think. A 200hp limit is arbitrary and stupid. I could understand a speed and noise limit. I used to live near a lake with a 150hp limit but it allowed jet skis... I always thought about getting a Moomba Boomerang with a tuned 4.3L V6 . The avid skiers on the lake that had a course had an I/O that actually skied okay, they had three motors for it to swap in/out. Good luck in your search.
  15. Seth is great. I skied with him when he was at Trophy and a few times at his current site OZ. Trophy's site is a bit better, but Seth is a great coach.
  16. Both. Are you considering a hot/cold shower as well? They are great for filling up a wetsuit pre-ski or warming up after. My ski partner and I used to disagree if heat or shower was more important. If any of these accessories get you to ski a bit more early or late season or gets a significant other to come along more often than they are worth it.
  17. Sorry to hear about your injury. My wife retore her acl 2/3/13, alpine skiing. The first time in '95 they used hamstring graph from the injured side. This time they used the hamstring graph from the other side. The surgeon referred to it as "we are going to RG3 you", since thats what they did for him. Her side w the hamstring graph was sore for a bit. But rate of successful graphs is better using your own tissue over cadaver. Good luck! Jamie
  18. BraceMaker I agree. I often dry ‘sail’ a ski boat in October in April, before and after lifts are in to extend the season in Vermont. One year I even put it in December 23rd, we had to break a bit of ice on Lake Champlain to get the boat in since our smaller lake was frozen. It would make it a bit easier to have a closed cooling system, the fall evenings are so short its often dark when the boat is being pulled out and temporally winterizing is a pain.
  19. Often the ‘closed cooling’ systems in ski boat inboards are only partial. The fresh/salt water often dumps into the manifolds and the raw water pump would need to be protected from freezing. However, a closed cooling system would lessen the risk(to block, heater…) and enable a longer season in climates with freezing temps.
  20. CC SN 206 Fixer Upper http://www.crashedtoys.com/Gallery.aspx?InventoryID=1153590 http://www.crashedtoys.com/Inventory.aspx?InventoryID=1153590&secid=1&trc=1&vt=&st=&fa=&ad=&ati=&pd=&sc=&mk=184&mdl=&yf=&yt=&mz=&z=&pg=1&tpg=&rcppg=20&vtg=&fts=&so=5&bn=0&d=2b4ed460723b4ab99ed23fe3987ff141#b96b20cc7eba4a76b0bbc83d0c45f7a5 I think this boat still has some life in it, but obviously would need fiberglass work, windshield, engine cover. The extent of bow damage, engine, trans and electrical looks like the biggest unknowns. It's encouraging they cared enough to cover the motor. I wonder what happened to damage the boat.
  21. Adam, I am sorry to hear of your injury. I wish you a quick and full recovery. I broke and sprained my ankle in Fogman’s and still have lingering effects similar to Horton’s. Pain following walking on uneven ground. I have friends who have broken ankles in, rubber bindings, HO Animal’s and Goode’s as well. I have been skiing in Strada’s for three seasons without an issue. I think they are the safest option currently available, but not perfect as your injury demonstrates.
  22. Great description of the forces injuring us in crashes and innovative ideas. I broke my ankle in a properly setup Fogman bindings. I now ski in Radar Strada’s bindings, but miss the nice tight and stiff Fogman shells, something I gut used to as an alpine ski racer. Brady, I don’t think this would work with Strada system, since the plate doesn’t release from the ski, instead the liner comes from the shell.
  23. One issue with requiring AWSA is that not all configurations of a hull/motor combination are submitted for testing these days. So technically a recent model MC 190/197 with the base 310hp Indmar wasn’t AWSA approved. However, this list seems to just go by hull: https://www.usawaterski.org/pages/divisions/3event/AWSAApprovedTowboatHistory.pdf
  24. The ’12 MC 197 for sale http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2012-Mastercraft-Prostar-Team-Boat-/111060095255 is a club boat from Avon Old Farms Ski Club in CT. They seem to struggle selling their boats each year. I hope the new ProStar is a great slalom boat. The 196 pricing is crazy this spring and has put me off from buying. I will go another summer skiing with friends. Its great it takes two people to ski.
