  1. Today it didn't do the rainbow screen, went to the initial start up nautique logo and stayed there. 23 tries! Tried total power off, including the perko switch. This was by far the worst it's been.

Tried you earlier skip, will try again tomorrow. I'm in the boat for most of the day so hopefully it's good! We leave the system powered up for the day so we don't have to worry about it when pulling skiers, just at initial start up.

I can't believe the cost though. An iPhone is far more capable and a fraction of the price... I get that these are proprietary and not a volume item but perhaps the OEMs can get some continuity and build volume related discounts. The cost of these boats is killing the sport

  2. @jpwhit it's not a touch screen, just the buttons.

@jhughes yes, we discussed that. Seems this happened after the marina changed something for the water temp, so perhaps wires got crossed. Same marina who said that'll be 8k and it's on its way out lol

    @Xpropman thanks, will call tomorrow!

  3. 2014 or 2016 team 200 with the Zo LINQ screen at cold start it has rainbow lines and sometimes have to restart a few times to get it to work.

Was told by dealership it's many $1000s to replace and the screen is on its way out. There's about 2k hrs on the boat.

    Any thoughts?

  4. If cost is the concern, and there are alternatives, it should be out to some form of RFP. TWBC is clearly the leader in this space but most organizations, especially NFP use the RFP process for procurement. Just a thought!
  5. I have met Larry and skied the boat he tested it in (but not yet activated) this fall (2014 200).

He's in the AG business and it's derived from his working with GPS controlled farm equipment. It works and it's pretty cool, but will require more development AFAIK to be totally accurate but that was as of September. It's clearly the future and a way to take the high end of the sport to the masses.

From the site: "Grabbing the steering wheel will instantly dis-engage the system, putting you back in control."

I'll hopefully get to test it this spring. I know Jose has been out many times to take a look here in Ontario and obviously they were testing it in Mexico.

    Onward

  6. No no @Drago this is incompetent leadership passing the buck, get with the program. They don't have to implement this.

Drunk drivers never reoffend and we use the honor code in our sport, this isn't like that fancy ski racing with their world Cups and household names.

What's next, officials get microchipd? It's a slippery slope... Waterskiing is too big to fail afterall

  7. Suggesting that it doesn't matter if we check for backgrounds because some people get away with committing crimes is a ridiculous, strawman argument.

Do changes need to occur? Are some overbearing? Yes and yes. Not the point I was trying to make.

I'm Canadian but often ski in the US, and the US is the heart of the sport, without an active and lively American association, I think it's fair to say there is no competitive waterskiing. Many are calling for a rogue organization, which would undoubtedly affect IWSF and all other federations, badly.

Also, I got involved locally because Id like to help facilitate positive change.

As with everyone else, I'm sharing my opinion and I believe this line of disgruntled whining is misguided, at best.

    Bring it

  8. Should we keep Waterskiing in backyard ponds or do we want to be considered as a legitimate sport?

Really that's the issue here, save for a few minor changes I'd tend to agree are overreaching (eg. SS for athletes), all sports have some level of oversight.

So the question is about how much oversight, yet so many are saying ditch it all, go rogue - then you definitely have NO amateur sport, only friendly competition.

This argument seems more political and about societal changes than actual waterskiing. The only thing you can bet on in life is constant change, and many struggle with that in their day to day, especially now with the pandemic and the restrictions it's bringing. I get it.

Doing a driver's abstract seems entirely consistent with how we should be playing in this sport. I think you're missing something Shane - so you and most boat drivers have a clean record or a few speeding tickets, what about the DUI or careless charges that are definitely out there? Don't tell me you're okay with that person driving you or worse a child?

This forum is becoming a massive bitch fest and it's incredibly tiring and unfortunate because positive change has occured thanks to comments here over the years.

  9. @ALPJr no it's not a code violation. How many hockey sticks are broken each game? And Those are 3bills a piece. Really doubt Charlie's ski is damaged in any way...

    Golf clubs

    Hockey sticks

Hockey bench doors resulting in broken glass... You might get a delay of game penalty

    Baseball helmets

    Baseball bats over the knee

    Football helmets

    Water bottles

    Tennis ?

None are DQable unless you throw it at someone or it hits someone.

  10. Yes and It's in the rule book!

Not sure what the fuss is all about. Would be pretty great if you got a chance at a run off coming from one of the early series. I doubt any of those skiers would complain and It's typical to run different series on different days for worlds.

Rule 8 – Slalom The tie breaking run shall begin with the scheduled speed and rope length of the last complete pass and conclude with the first miss. If another tie results, the tie shall be run-off in the same manner with another new drawing for order. This process shall be repeated until a winner is determined. The skier may optionally skip any pass in the run-off. When a run-off for first place is between more than two skiers, all the places equal to the number of skiers in the run-off are decided by the run-off with no reversion to the preliminary round score except that the preliminary round score would be used if two or more skiers are still tied for 2nd and 3rd places after the run-off.
