  1. Although there has been significant discussion concerning the dates for the 2024 Nationals, the AWSA board voted to keep the originally proposed dates of August 13-17, 2024 See you there!
  2. A lot of Red Pocket users changed to T Mobile. Looks like they solved the problem.
  3. Wait. My Power Stix don’t work??? WTF!
  4. @Horton. Agreed, and yes, forward pressure is the function of the heel piece pushing the boot forward into the toe piece. I’ve seen and fixed loose boots on Reflex plates. Do you have any other material on your plate to make sure your boot doesn’t move? If you look at the LaPoints’ plates, or Chelsea Mills’, they use bondo to make a heel cup in which the heel of their boots sit. They don’t rely at all on the nylon centering screws. And my point wasn’t that your boot would move once in the binding, it was that you might not have your boot in exactly the same place every time you click iin, assuming no centering screws or other product to center your boot. But as noted, with your scores being consistent, you are probably in the same spot all the time. For an interesting experiment, the next time you are having a crappy set, try releasing the binding and resetting your boot before clicking back in. See if your set improves.
  5. @Dano Productive= working on positive aspects of your skiing, as opposed to skiing poorly and developing or reinforcing bad habits or technique; having fun; a positive experience.
  6. We use the ski boat and a Whaler. Ski boat for the cable and Whaler for the arms. Keeps the hardware separated from the upholstery. Working together, the Whaler delivers the arms to the guys laying the cable. Job goes easily. Note to someone new to installing a course. The first turn ball is on the right. You’re talking to someone who, maybe 45 years ago, put one ball on the left. I knew something looked a little odd but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it….
  7. If I ski one slalom set a day (6 to 8 passes), I can ski pretty much every day and be productive. If I ski two slalom sets a day for a couple days, I have to take days off to rest. I can slalom every day and take a trick set three days a week, or ride jumpers, but then I need a rest day. I also go to the gym and ride my bike several times a week. I am 67. I usually need a rest day following a tournament. In July through Nationals, I take a lot of rest days and that helps my scores peak. Otherwise I find skiing too fun not to ski.
  8. Might be a prop solution rather than a ZO solution. ZO engages when you get to speed. If you’re not getting to speed soon enough, there’s nothing ZO can do to help you.
  9. @buechsr Maybe, but how many people complain about having to watch Top Gun a second time? “Take me Home or lose me forever!” Oops! Safe Sport violation.
  10. It would be a lot better if they had a better produced training that was interesting and maybe even entertaining.
  11. The European scoring system seems to be preferred by senior scorers scoring tournaments with a head to head component. Dana Garcia raves about it.
  12. @chaloux Matt Richardson. 2012 Men 2 slalom National Champ. Nick Leuthauser lives in the same neighborhood. He won M2 in 2013. Northern NY has a bunch of really good skiers.
  13. @Horton No. 34. Mid 20’s female. Former collegiate skier. I never thought she had it in her.
  14. On a related topic, one time a handful of years ago a women who was trying to qualify for Worlds representing Lebanon said she could take 20 passes. We called BS and pulled her. Not only did she take 24 passes, but on her 24th pass she finally ran a line length that she had struggled with all set. The moral of the story: Never underestimate a woman.
  15. Well, if water skiing gets dropped as a Pan Am sport, we’ll likely lose our funding from USOPC and with it our obligation to participate in Safe Sport. However, we benefit by being compelled to participate in SS. Since we are obligated to participate, there is no reasonable argument for opting out and the board can’t reasonably be faulted for the SS requirement. If we aren’t compelled to participate, then the issue will be (assuming it’s possible) whether or not we should voluntarily participate. Then the board will have to make a decision, and that has the potential to really piss off that part of the membership that falls within whichever group it is that loses the argument. And that could result in a real membership retention problem.
  16. @Horton Then how do you know your boot is in the same place every time? I know your scores are very consistent, and thus your boot probably is in the same spot all the time, but that may not be true for everyone, particularly if the forward pressure adjustment is on the loose side. Plus, you need them if you choose to have some heel rotation.
  17. My good friend , TC, Pan Am judge and all around great guy Terry Turner of Michigan and Orlando passed away this week.
  18. I’m not sure how long the TFactor overlays will last, but Daisy, the little girl next to Nate’s ski on the start dock at Little Mountain, lasted 17 and a half years. Adios, mis amigo.
  19. They still aren’t. Maybe this KLP experiment was the genesis of the rule.
  20. @swbca Everyone’s confirmation is different, so whether to rotate and if so which way and how much is going to be different person to person. Glad to hear you’re making progress!
  21. @34mph You won’t know unless you give it a try. A friend of mine had chronic back pain. He finally met with a surgeon who was also a skier. Surgeon suggested skiing with the opposite foot forward. It took my buddy all summer to figure out how to ski on the opposite foot, but he did it. Now several years later, he’s as good if not better at skiing than he was before, and his back pain is gone.
  22. @scoke I agree with your rationale, but 3 to 5 cm is a lot of rotation, even by my standards. I rotate 1.25 cm or maybe a hair more. 5 cm is almost two inches. Typo or wakeboard?
  23. @swbca LFF Toe 1/2” right, heel 3/8” left. I stand with both toes rotated right and both heels rotated left. Most people that rotate both bindings will rotate the front toe to one side and rear toe opposite. If i rotate my front toe to the left, which might be considered “normal,” my knee flexes way off the left edge of the ski and i can’t turn. What works for me won’t necessarily work for you.
  24. @ALPJr Check Water Ski Results. Spoiler alert: Nate and Regina.
  25. @jercrane My wife is the same. She’ll watch TWBC all day but getting her to go to a tournament is like pulling teeth.
