  1. Family first...there are a ton of good companies and opportunities in the world. You mention that your boss sees you taking over his position after more experience and obtaining an MBA. Why not talk to your boss about going back to school at the same time as your wife goes; all with a vision to returning to your company? You may find that there are a lot of opportunities for you that you prefer once you graduate.
  2. 50% of this sport is mental, the other 50% is being mental.
  3. For a perspective about the scale of the flooding, apparently in the Saddledome (where the Calgary Flames play) the water is up to the 14th row of seats. The dressing rooms are completely underwater
  4. I learned from the video that Nate is made of rubber !!!
  5. @bobgboy, I only post this to preserve historical accuracy and to maintain the validity of this thread.
  6. Wow, that is great. I was at that event in Toronto. It was held out at Long Pond at Center Island on Lake Ontario. A friend of mine had a job of running competitors back and forth from the mainland to the island. I had a Joel McClintock poster on my bedroom wall in those days, right next to the Farah Fawcett bathing suit poster. Too funny.
  7. Not a geek-like observation but what I think it really does is allow you to remain in a controllable position. When your hands and arms get too far away from your body, it is very easy for the boat to pull the top of your body forward and cause you to break at the waist. When you break at the waist not only is that bad for balance, it transfers the load from your skeleton to your muscles - and they don't stand much of a chance against the pull of the boat. When your elbows are tucked in and handle is near your hips, it is very difficult to get pulled forward or to break at the waist. I know, I know, not physics equation was even mentioned....sorry guys :-)
  8. Oh no!!!! @skibrain....I see a huge Panda in your future!
  9. I also notice (particularly with your pictures of Nate) just how tight the skiers keep their elbows to their vests ( a la the Bruce Butterfield article on handle control) and just how long into the turn they hold onto the handle with both hands before feeding out the line. Some amazing pictures. Oh yeah, one other thing these guys can do, is that they can have a crazy out of control turn with huge tip rise, and maybe even have the entire ski jump out of the water, but almost instantly recover into a strong stacked and balanced pulling position. They are amazing.
  10. I think at -15/22 the pull phase feels like a tug of war, while 28 and lower it feels like a pulse. I also think that the speed changes and edge changes are more distinct making you ski more efficiently.
  11. @MS regarding Monza...love is blind lol
  12. A couple of things that might help. 1) when you are finishing the turn, ski your hip to the handle 2) when you get there, LEAN away from the boat...all the way through the wakes 3) you appear to have your arms bent when you are "pulling". You have to get your arms straight, hands down by your waist...hips forward. This allows for a lot more lean, this will make crossing the wake much easier Try to feel the movements, or body position that creates speed through the wakes. Take a look at your body position as you pull out to start your gate. You are in a much more stacked position than when you cross the wakes. When you finish the turn, you start to lean, then you give up on it and hit the wake with a flat ski. You need to increase your lean as you approach the wake. I know that it seems counter to your survival, but it is way easier and safer to cross the wake on a deep edge.
  13. and that's why we love you man!!!! Ski slut!!!!
  14. The reflex can be pivoted...watch the Andy Mapple video...it shows how to pivot the boot.
  15. Seems expensive for what it is. My guess is that it causes more tip to be engaged when the ski is on edge and leaves the ski unaffected during the pulling phase. Interesting that you could tune the ski for less tip (aiding acceleration) than normal, and still have enough tip in the turn to make a tight radius. Cool
  16. That sizing chart is not very helpful if you happen to weigh about 195 pounds
  17. Investment Advisor (stockbroker) for high net worth private clients and small institutional investors
  18. First of all that 2012 has 600 hours. That is high for a one year old boat. That is reltively high mileage for the age. It also has some interior and gel coat damage. So it is priced right for its' condition. Hardly a fire sale.
  19. Crap--- he looked early, even with a few squirrelly finishes (of turns).
  20. @MattP. It does. Even in Canada April is normally pretty nice. Looks like I needs me a little FLA!!!!!
  21. Toronto--- currently snowing. ARRRRRRGGGGGGHHH!!!!!!!
  22. I can start either way but old habits die hard I guess. I learned with dragging my back foot. In the old days I was learning behind underpowered outboards. Just made things easier.
