  1. Kelvin, we considered the carp but very expensive and no way could they make a dent in our plant growth at the present. @Waternut, am I reading the directions correct on Diquat, i.e., approximately 1 gallon per 1 acre of water? You figure our lake is 13 surface acres X $100 per gallon? Mercy. Correct me if wrong or where to buy for cheaper.
  2. We are in Houston, by the way. We would invite you to come ski with us, but OB drank all of our beer when he visited in the Spring.
  3. I researched a previous discussion but that thread was several years old. Thought there might be some new stuff around. Joe Darwin recommended Karmex (Diuron) but our lake owner balked due to no EPA approval for water use. We have colored with Joe's dye (forget the name), but are being overrun with plants even out to 4ft deep. Have a few fish but owner also concerned about them. More dye? Different chemical than Karmex? Need some help and many thanks.
  4. You may be a long ways from us, but check us out as we are a club and we have water! khoover @ wt. net
  5. And just think...this is their least expensive, least profitable, fewest units sold boat among a stable of entries. It will, ironically, cause the most exaltation and the most gnashing of teeth, the greatest hyperbole with the most vicious of rumors, the most praise and the most bitchin', and the most enjoyable skiing countered by some miserable, lousy skiers. It is a technological marvel, only to be bloodied by some on a daily basis. I am still amazed that the Big 3 (4?) give one hoot in heck about what skiers demand, knowing all of the above. To all the manufacturers; thank you for your persistence and dedication and, seemingly, your loss of mind, in continuing to bring wonderful products to our (most tiny) segment of the market.
  6. Ballers, Just one last beg for your kicking in to the cash purse for this second annual, home-grown Atlanta tourney. So far, OB reports about $1200 in BOS contributions, which is good, but many of us have seen MS and JD and Horton and OB spill more alcohol than that. We can, and should, do a lot better. Just go to this site http://www.waterskiatlanta.com/2013-ballofspray-atlanta-proam/ Scroll down a tad to the highlight "Joe Skier Sponsorship Page" and click. Operators are standing by, so bring her home with even a lousy $5 or $10 because it goes a long ways toward making it possible to have the 3rd annual extravaganza. Thank you so much to those who have contributed, and for those who will this week.
  7. aswinter, hate to admit OB having said something worthy, but indeed he did. You might mosey on over to fifteenoff.com at your leisure and search "Professor". Read "The Professor" diatribe for further enlightenment, apply correctly, and be prepared to shorten that rope.
  8. Wade Cox will continue his Summer tour with a stop in NE Houston on Thursday, June 6. You are welcome to submit a reservation to khoover at wt.net. Wade charges $75 per set, and make it a long set while you are at it. Feel free to bring your own videographer in the boat, and bring the kids. Wade is better than great with the kids. We are at Deegans LakePort, only 20 mins from IAH (Bush) so come on out for a great day in the sun with a member of the Hall of Fame. You will be very glad you did as Wade is outstanding to ski with and socialize with. Make your reservation, please, because we would love to see you.
  9. I'm just posting so we get this topic back in the Top 10, but a big thank you to all who have donated. We still have plenty of viewers who can surely afford a lousy $10, or more, and we have time on our side to give everyone a chance. Pony up for a good cause! OB, keep us informed with the 10min ticker and let's bust the seams, Ballers. And now, back to our regular programming....
  10. Shane, it's a couple of new members over at Lake Muddy Waters. We called yall on Saturday for a possible MC switch for the shower and no one answered in service. Missed a good $2.98 sale, I'm sure.
  11. Marcus, point well taken but very much disagree. We skiers have knocked ourselves out trying to market and promote for the last 15 years, and very little happens on the corporate and tv side. The occasional site, such as Milwaukee, is a wonderful exception, but Atlanta has refused for the second straight year. However, there are some very good sponsors on board, and they see an obvious ROI, so we are not talking of zero support. The Atlanta tourney has been produced, organized, and funded, so here we are with the current purse. All these so called "future sponsors" have had their chance and said no thanks. Fine. Now here is our chance as a huge BOS club to put more money directly in the skiers pockets. I have a feeling they will like it, and hope for more "Atlantas" where they get more than verbal thanks for their efforts. Ballers, we can impress cities and tv folks by showing them a huge purse is possible, that there are thousands of us out here who love this sport, and that they need to get on board this moving train. How about I start the flow with $50. Sign me up, George.
  12. Ballers, The upcoming Atlanta tournament is our chance to control the purse, unlike any waterski tourney ever (well, at least since last month in Acapulco where Gordon showed it can be done!) All these years we have been wringing our hands and crying in our beer that there is no money in pro tourneys. Other organizations and well-intentioned sponsors have done their best, supposedly, but it has always been rather anemic. Atlanta is truly a FUBU (for us, by us) tourney, started at the grassroots level just last year by one of our own Ballers, George Obser. Now in year 2, BOS is contributing its clout (thanks, John!) and we can help make the purse what we want to make it. No limits. The current purse is $5,000 for OM and $4,000 for the ladies. There are thousands of us who can kick in even $10 and make this the most lucrative waterski tourney in history. Every dollar contributed goes directly to the purse, not anywhere else. So sayeth George and John. We could easily triple the payouts and show these skiers we mean business and appreciate their efforts more than they will ever know. Come on, a lousy $10, or more, from BOS readers can make this a historic event in our rather poverty stricken pro tournament history history. Kick in, and many thanks to all the Atlanta folks and BOS for making it happen.
  13. The same, 6balls, a real beauty and a cream puff boat. Her new owners love it and even more now that we got the shower installed. But what a royal pain in the hiney it was. Along with the inevitable trip to Lowes, we cut and spliced and figured and screwed and drilled and screwed some more for a good 5 hours. My 2 buds were geniuses or it would never have been done. Order it from the factory on your new 14 would be my recommendation and don't complain about the cost. Otherwise, we are ready for a week of chilly weather, for us in Houston, with our new shower.
  14. Don't want to spend all day Saturday making mistakes that you can help us avoid. Tips for smooth sailing?
  15. Skibug, is (was) that your 09 MC, red and black? She is a sweetheart so thank you for taking care of her. She is in good hands, on a private lake, so don't worry about her new home. Her new owners are smitten. Getting off topic here with Skibug so anyone else feel free to chip in. How does one "disengage" the trailer brakes for backing? The light assembly does not fit my truck so we had to use a vehicle that fit the assembly. Otherwise, how does one back up with no trailer lights?
  16. OB, is that Georgia schooling or Marine training in numbering OW?
  17. Ripping off a popular segment from DFW radio, let me pose the question to the Ballers of the previous day's event here in beautiful Houston. The skier in person shall forever remain nameless to protect his guilt, but his lovely and gracious wife, Ann, calls him David and the rest of us just call him DP. Let's just call him our skier. After a wonderful, flat water set at Muddy Waters (OB's home away from home, as long as we furnish food and adult beverages), our skier says the sun is so nice and I'm not frozen so I won't have to get my hair dryer out to dry my not-so-cold head. WHAT!?!?! Yes, our skier had brought a hair dryer from home, just in case he got a little chilled in the scalp. Come on! I'm gonna have to say.............
  18. Yep, I agree with waterdawg that Bud does an excellent job for skiall6.com Be sure to check out that one, too, aswinter, as fellow ballers can be found there.
  19. Now waterdawg, not sure if that was a shot across the bow but I felt a breeze. No question that BOS is The King, but there are other very good sites out there, fifteenoff. com being right near the top. There is many a shortliner that checks in, including many pros, The Professor and blackdog dole out some of the best advice one can find North of the equator, and Joel does a very nice job of keeping the peace and keeping it clean. You would be right, some sites are not worth visiting twice, but fifteenoff.com ain't one of them. Make sure the check is in the mail, Joel.
  20. aswinter05, if you are not already on fifteenoff.com get over there and enjoy it, too. Lots of fellow members and some good stuff you will appreciate at your beginning level.
  21. Nice boots, Brady. No, the other ones. That man must pine for Texas.
  22. Brady, OB is coming to ski with us in a Houston layover on Monday and you heard him, what a wuss. Good folk would kill for that warm water in late November, right? Of course, I'm not getting in it, just driving, but that's not the point......
  23. Ballers, all good stuff, shall make sure to advise on the results over the next couple of months if he is still skiing. Shane, skied today in glorious, sunny weather, but the water was a chilly 62*. Yikes, we need some warm nights and some rain---not in that order.
  24. Ballers, help is needed to critique this video and advise how to get off of the back foot. Binders? Fin? Wing? Stack adjustment? What? Video is riding a Nano 1, stock everything, running 32 @34. http://youtu.be/eRRns9uRbOc
