  1. Its hard for me to think much about my fin until its warm and the rope is short. I set my ski up for 85 degree water and 10.75, neither of which is available to me at the minute! I am probably done tweaking for a month or two but for now on my 67" I think I will end up: around 0.750 (haven't tried anything else, feels good) 6.925-6.940 (I ran 6.940 on my X7 and agree that probably is too much for the quest. 6.930 felt pretty good and I am not sure less would be better) 2.505-2.515 (I can ride it anywhere in here with little impact. Less than 2.505 may work but more than 2.515 probably wont) 7 degrees Don't forget to play with bindings!

  3. Based on the thread title, I thought stainless mainline for skiing which sounds scary!
  4. Ya, got a text from Ward yesterday and will try less fin next time i ski. snow skiing this weekend!
  5. @jdarwin that may be way too much fin. Its the only thing I have tried yet and it felt good to me. D3 are getting all the feedback now on how fin settings are working out in the field and they will revise the stock numbers it if it makes sense. My guess is PC will tell you stock or shorter and more shallow than stock just as others have said above
  6. No. My new ski feels better PP and ZO.
  7. The tip didn't come up once that entire set
  8. He makes it looks so easy, from shore and on board!
  9. thanks. Last year there was a H2H and assume the same this time around
  10. agreed. How did Badal do, I missed that
  11. @wish stream is rough for me, barely watchable
  12. @skidawg I think so. 2.515, 6.940tips, 0.750flat, 7 degrees, and 30 1/16" on my Reflex. I have not played with it at all, and so far dont feel like I have too. When it warms up and I am working on short lines I will play around to make sure I have the best setup. Cant wait to hear what you think! Especially compared to your Fusion.
  13. ya, yikes, ordering handle guards now
  14. I sometimes get overly excited about first impressions so I have been holding back on this a bit. This weekend I got what I consider the first 3 rides of the season on my white top Quest, and I could not stop smiling. I am more excited to ski right now than I have been in years. I think ski companies improve their skis with every update at least incrementally. Sometimes they succeed in a step change. This ski feels like a step change and like the ski I think D3 have been working for years to build. I have heard and believe it is very hard to find the right combination of design elements that makes a ski match the designers vision, but the boys are buzzing with excitement around how this ski turned out. Beyond all that, these are my skier observations as I avoid starting my workday because I just can’t wait to ski again… 1) This ski will allow you to grab a lot of angle, but it’s easy for the skier to choose how much. Ride the line you are on, take a bit more, let it run a bit long, and always get a sweet turn. I feel I have more freedom than ever before with no negative consequence 2) The next thing I notice is how quick it is side to side. It’s definitely faster than my X7 and maybe as fast as a Fusion. I notice it accelerating out of the turn and as I carry speed into and through the next buoy 3) It’s easier to get the ski moving out through the edge change. I am thinking that is largely due to the 2 things above but like it a lot in any case This is the way I always wanted my ski to feel and I can’t wait to get fit and for the weather to warm up to see how these observations pay off at my shortest line lengths.
  15. @jimbrake I found the X7 to be a deeper riding ski that liked to carve plush turns. The Quest feels like that but more steriods in the turns, especially heal side. I felt the X7 was awesome on my toe side but left me wanting a bit more heal side, and I have both sides in the Quest, more balanced than I felt on the X7. If anything the Quest is quicker than the X7, but I expect the masses to consider it a "slow" ski. The Fusion should remain the quicker D3 option. See you at Far East Sunday?
  16. Ya, 67". I have always run a longer fin, just my preference. Stock suggestion is 6.94 if I am not mistaking
  17. deleted a bit "...warms up and I ski my shortest passes"
  18. I have only a handful of sets on the final Quest and they were all in 50ish degree water. I was comfortable at 2.515, 6.9400, 0.750, 7 degrees, 30 1/16" front boot which is similar to where I rode my X7, just a bit deeper. I will of course revisit when it warms up and I ski m I will be interested to hear what Fusion lovers think of the Quest. Will first described it to me as an "X7 on steriods" and that is what it feels like to me!
  19. Every year they are proud of the improvements they make in the skis, but they are really amped this time around. Fair point, marketing will always be strong, but the write up above is spot on. All this said, skier feedback and performances are strong proof points and we expect to see the masses agree. Time will tell as the skis hit the water.
  20. I haven't talked to Nate since the ski was finished and don't know what he will be riding this season.
  21. This year I got to play in the design process from start to finish. Started last summer talking to Will about where to go, then hand made prototypes last summer, different molds last fall and even into the winter, ending with the Quest. Got to spend a weekend with Nate/Will/Paul last last fall testing earlier versions which was a blast. Will is pumped the final ski turned out exactly like he/we wanted and the final ski feels A LOT better then some of the later prototypes. It would have been fun to sneak out updates but the team agreed to stay totally quiet until it was done. I cant wait to ride it fit and in warm water to see what the skis total potential is. For now, Paul used an email I sent him from the dock after the 2nd ride on the ski, thats the quote above.
  22. living in three different regions runs the number up quickly
  23. @horton I agree you can do "Class C Plus" and I will this summer. At one of our 2rd Cs, I will run a 8 person H2H. It will be the Diablo format. I am mainly doing it because H2Hs are so much fun. We also have a well attended bbq that evening so there will be a crowd watching. You should come. Regarding "lots of work" I was thinking of a Big Dawg level event with record qualifying rounds and a large field of >50 skiers. But as you say, you could keep scale/scope/effort under control
  24. What we have a lot of: Ideas about events and formats, but keep them coming What I hope we have enough of: skiers to enjoy the events What we dont have enough: Folks to actually organize and host and events Dana Reed made it happen, OB is leading by example, Greg Davis and team keep the Big Dawg going, Badal keeps his Pro-Am rolling, etc. Then we have the sites around the country that open up to host these events as well as INT/AWSAS events. This in my mind is what is limiting. More organizers and hosts. Its hard work, time consuming, and often dont make sense financially, so we have to "want it for the love of the sport" I wish I had time to pull a big event together but I know it takes a lot of time and I dont have it. I do help organize our club Class C events and judge/drive/dock start at any tournament I go to. But to put together something like what is being discussed here is another level. This said I bet with a LOC of a few guys and a host willing to do it, it would quickly gain momentum. Until then, the format debate is interesting, but wont get the event off the ground. I guess what I am saying is I would love to watch how this goes, and hope someone can afford the time to step up and put it on.
  25. @horton, I agree with you on all of this. There is room in the sport for something much better than Nationals and different than the Big Dawg. There are some cool ideas here, the discussion should continue. I think the fundamental difference between straight up vs handicap is first. Then there is the entry criteria and event format details. I hope someone is inspired to put it on and see what happens. The Senior Tour is one attempt, it would be great if there was another. I would be happy if we gave "average" current tournament skiers a new and exciting venue to compete. If we could also bring the tournament lurkers to events and grow the numbers that would be awesome. No matter what, I am packing tomatoes. See you in Miss :-)
