  1. Dec 24th. Maybe an inch of snow, Lake Minnewawa, MN http://i812.photobucket.com/albums/zz45/minnewawa/IMAG0627.jpg
  2. Robb Warner. 28 years old, look 17. 3 kids, 2, 3 and almost 7. Wonderful wife who just started skiing this past summer. I have been skiing since I was 16, open water on Lake Minnewawa, McGregor MN from a junk of land known as Warner's Point. Regretfully I grew up on the lake and did not ski until I was 16 minus one day behind a 13' Whaler with a 35 horse. Fast forward to 16, A pair of wood Cypress Gardens and I was hooked. Worked up to dropping one that summer and let me tell you it was a pain trying to cross the wake from the outboard on that light wood ski. Lots of diggers. Then an old EP honeycomb that I dropped to. Cousin bought a 70" CDX and I loved that. Bought a 67" ASX with my brother and skied that from 2002 until the end of this past summer when I got the hookup on a D3 CustomX from a guy I met on snowmobling forums and sledded with. He also told me about BOS so thanks again 6@38 (how I know him from sledding) I think JLittle on here. Past few years do to work and young kids my water time was shorter then I liked, but this past summer I jumped back in. I love getting up and skiing in the morning, stealing water during the day and then going again after supper. The joys of a public lake in northern MN!!! If I'm not skiing, I can be found playing off the docks with my kids, fishing with them, the wife or my brother and now my favorite water past time, tubing with my kids. Never thought I'd say it, but the best time I have ever had on glass was sitting on a tube with them!!! Now live in Plainview, MN and work as a Radiological Technologist, aka x-ray tech at some clinic place here in SE MN. Would love to find a gig back up north, but with kids and a house payment I am most likely stuck in the land of no natural lakes in the Land of 10,000 for the next 22 years and 9 months(but whose counting). Though I hope to meet up with some folks down here next summer for some ski time between trips up north. Also am trying to start a faith based water sports outreach in the area with a couple of fellow skiers/believers I recently met....who knows where that will lead but I am excited. Other hobbies involve dirt biking (yep as a x-ray tech), snowmobiling (man is riding the mountains a rush), street bike and as much fishing and hunting as I can get, which isn't enough! Also dabbled in homebrewing and have been known to enjoy a good beer or drink. I must say outside of snowmobiling I have not met better people then the ones I have met on the lake with skis involved.
  3. OK I got the wife a ski for Christmas, 65" P6 with a Rail front and RTP. Got it from BBSWake on Ebay, talked with the guy when I ordered it and he said for a womans size 8.5, the small binding would fit. So Christmas day I pulled the binding off the ski so she could try it on and she couldn't get her foot in at first. Loosened all the laces up and I got my foot in, after which she was able to slip it on fine. Her toes are right at the end but she said it is tight width wise but not restrictive or uncomfortable. I noticed the same thing as well. So my question is, will the binding loosen a little with use and even just being wet? Also if a guy liked how that binding felt and is looking to try something other then the Venom I have had, what binding from Radar is equivilant to the Rail, would it be the Prime or Vector? Also in going up to a medium would the width increase for the foot or just length?
  4. Sounds good MS, if you don't mind a guy that will most likely provide some of the most spectacular crashes ever seen. I seem to be good for 3 or 4 skips if I hit just right, and the to frequent ski turned helicopter turned auger.
  5. There ever any crash course clinics for chasing balls?
  6. Crap there is a pretty good big group I'd say.
  7. I guess this might be a sort of noob question again. But I see lots of southern Canada, northern Canada, MN references on here and I was wondering who all was a MN local and where in the state. I live in SE MN but all of my lake time is in north central outside of McGregor. Always looking for new people to ski with and I even have a gas can. Seems I only get to ski up north with my usual crew 3 or 4 times each summer do to work and family schedules.
  8. Once skied two days after ice out in northern MN. Air might have been 45, water surface temp was a balmy 34 degrees....I don't want to know what it was past the surface but it was bad. bananron where up north are you? My ice out run was done near McGregor. If the boat is in in April I will ski, but come Opener I fish and usually don't make it back up until Memorial.
  9. I'd do just like was posted with the boards. Shouldn't have an issue with being able to dap your foot, looks to me like those racks stick out enough. Or it should sit close enough that you can put your leg over it, a ski is pretty skinny on edge. If you are worried about heat put it on the left side, though that might complicate shifting. Looking on google I don't see why you couldn't mount up a rack on the left side. Looks like it has somewhat forward controls so you should be able to get the ski high enough to be out of the way and the left side will keep you away from the exhaust. Let us know what you come up with, if I ever get to skiing down here where I live instead of just up at the lake place I'd love to be able to haul my ski on the bike!
  10. Well craps with that advice I've been doing it wrong. See if it works for her though. Only 4.5 months until soft water, so 5 or 6 months until she jumps in.
  11. I started skiing just over 10 years ago. I have always been LFF since I started dropping and I can't for the life of me recall how I came to that conclusion. All I know is the guy who taught me said if I rode a skateboard with the LFF then I skied that way. Never had complaints with it for me . However my wife started skiing last year a few times and being a good(smart) husband I shut my yap and let her and the few guys we went with give her advice. Well I know that with the the fact that she only went 3 times she isn't going to recall which foot she had forward the few times she dropped and was successful. So how do I help her figure out which foot forward? And then how the heck to I figure out what grip she should be using? She is never going to be more then a 28mph open water skier, I just want to get her set and going so she can have the most enjoyment and I can be the least jerk husband possible in getting her going.
  12. All right then. Here ya go, from a open water ski guy. WTH is with all the tweaking of fins, etc? In just skimming the stuff about it (cause it gets boring) it seems like most of the adjustments are to compensate for technique flaws, no? I come from a snowmobiling and dirt biking background and well there is a fair amount of equipment tweaking in both sports, it is widely acknowledged that one is better off to master the basics and build off of them vs modding or tweaking the equipment to make up for your shortcomings. The thought being that one who can master the skill set to make "stock" perform to the fullest of the capabilities is helping themselves in the long run more so then the person who constantly tweaks the equipment instead of stepping back and mastering flaws in their style. OK now I will return to my Fitgers Brew Pub Oatmeal Stout and lurking while I wait for either loads of snow or the lakes to get soft again.
  13. Snow, lots of cold, powdery snow!!!! MS when does your lake free up out there? I'm usually waiting till end of April to get wet up north and lately due to work I don't ski until after Opener.
  14. I tried a course one summer on our lake, wasn't digging it, but who knows what summer will bring.
  15. You can do it. And you want to slow your momentum when getting to shore. Or you guys could do something like this at a tourney...http://www.youtube.com/user/509Films?blend=1&ob=4#p/u/6/gqsZ2FR_z6w
  16. Not a ball chaser, but I have skied from a rail to as built as my body can get legally. And by far the best I have ever skied was this past summer after a winter of yoga...balance, core and flexibilty all rolled into one.
  17. A family that loves being on the water and going up north to the lake as much as I do.
  18. Three docks. One old wood section style with wood planks and steel posts, one old steel frame with plywood decking and one Floe aluminum roll in, three sections with a small L. All come out. Old wood and post is hand done, steel frame is hauled out with a Ford 1700. By far the easiest (and it is on a steep bank) is the Floe. Big plastic wheels, no tools (minus a wrench for one post on the L), light and two guys can get it out in under 30. http://www.floeintl.com/ We are on the north shore of a lake in MN so everything comes out as the ice can heave up and push shoreline up 5 feet. If you are looking aluminum check out Floe International, lots of options for configuration and a very quality product. We have a Floe lift and have had a Shore Station which no longer goes in. Hands down if you have to take anything out of the water get aluminum and if it freezes I say take it out, ice is a nasty mother who don't care. Steel dock http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg9/yz125x/Fall%20Vacation%202008/IMG_1915.jpg http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg9/yz125x/Lake%206-20-23/IMG_1230.jpg Neighbors Floe dock as I have none of ours. http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg9/yz125x/July%2011%20Storm/IMG_1372.jpg http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg9/yz125x/July%2011%20Storm/IMG_1374.jpg
