  1. Bruce there HAS to be other videos which include that "serious crash". Kind of reminds me of rally racing where it looks pretty cool until the inevitable ultimately happens! At least there isn't a skier behind that boat! It would have to be another sport division and I can only imagine what the insurance costs would be!!
  2. Hmmm....pool by the lake, looks like 4 docks - non-with boats....The complete lack of "guy toys" would lead me to think the ex-husband lost this in the divorce settlement!
  3. Awesome!!! Very cool!!!!
  4. Than, the computer already makes minute changes to throttle for accommodate the varying pull from a skier (in all three events). Arguably PP and ZO aren't able to anticipate like a human driver but the computing cycles makes it react fast enough to make up for it. Granted steering, with all the 'slop' built into the mechanics may require more anticipation than "simple" throttle but farm field aren't all flat, hard surfaces and the GPS technology there adjusts for all the variables quite well.
  5. AWSA rule 8.03d states that "devices affixed to the ski intended to control or adjust the skiing characteristics of the ski are allowed as long as they are fixed, in that they do not move or change during actual skiing." Key words here are "during actual skiing". The Dynafoil is only adjustable when you're in the water between passes so technically it should be an acceptable device to use. I recall back in about the same time period there was a wing that moved using a link to the rear binding essentially allowing more angle to be used on the wing when your heel or your rear foot was 'lifted' off the ski. I believe that is the type of device the rules are trying to prevent (rule 8.03d & 8.03b - "fixed foot binding"). If memory serves me right, I think I saw Carl Roberge using this movable wing for a while back then.
  6. I wasn't at either tournament this week but spending time with the Miranda's and with Rodrigo at Chacabuco was certainly a pleasure! I completely agree with both Seth's and Brent's comments that the Chilean folks are really great people!
  7. @auskier this is what was used at the World University Champs in Chile a week ago. Same rig was used in slalom and jump. Olaf Boettcher is the contact who own's the hardware.
  8. Last time I was there was about 3-4 years ago. The course was situated in the 'lagoon' on the opposite side of the road where all the hotels/resorts were located. I never saw anyone ski on it but I did notice it wasn't in the best condition (i.e. - buoys missing, out of alignment, etc.). Since I never saw anyone ski on it, I have no idea what boats they used to pull a skier. I'm pretty sure the water is at least brackish if not salt water. As an aside, we ate at a restaurant on the shore parallel to the course and one of their draws was the ability to feed the gators from the deck just after dark. There were enough to cause me to wonder whether I wanted to spend lot of time swimming in that water!! :)
  9. Another problem with a windshield mounted camera is when there is a bimini top. Frankly what we used this weekend (battle tested many, many times before!) worked flawlessly.
  10. According to both AWSA rules the camera should be "higher than the top of the windshield" and IWWF says it "should be higher than the top of the windscreen". The problem with clipping the fixed camera to the top of the windshield is that it can be blocked by a tall release person of even a large rooster tail depending on the speed. Putting a camera person on a coushin or even the back of the seat isn't a good solution either because they can be a distraction to the skier. Another problem with the fixed mounted camera is the ability to pan left/right. If you can't pan the camera then you have to zoom out far enough to follow the skier outside the wakes. Especially problematic for flips.
  11. I just sent you some by email of what we're using in Slalom and Tricks at the World University Champs. Took them today.
  12. Don't forget fellow baller Brian Dettrick is here too! Be sure to check out his updates on the home page - www.ballofspray.com
  13. I'll be on the other side of town but visited Rodigo's lake yesterday! Awesome lake!! I'm sure Seth and Brent will have a great time!!
  14. Maybe this is one of those "out of the box" thoughts....Take along a portable slalom course and your ski! Of course that may mean fishing out of a SN or MC but that's better than sking behind a 16' fishing boat with a 25hp outboard! :) Sure looks like there are plenty of 'long skinny' lakes to pick from!!
  15. assuming it's deep enough basically from shore to shore that looks easily doable. I'd even consider dropping the left end of the line lower into that corner on the lower left.
  16. @ntx but it was a collegiate skier! Div 2 school this year if I recall...
  17. Another thing is the money budgeted for "team expenses" is in a 'restricted' pool of funds specficially earmarked for that purpose. The point is, since the money is restricted, AWSA (proper) has little to say about how to spend that money once allocated. Perhaps it makes sense to define exactly what that 'sport' is? Does it mean all towed water sports (i.e. USAWS) or traditional 3-event competitive waterskiing (AWSA)?
  18. @jcamp, @jdarwins comments were pertaining to the AWSA budget and not the USAWS budget. While I agree with your accounting regarding USAWS, the AWSA budget and/or financial statements are not online that can find.
  19. "my shorts! I lost my shorts!!"
  20. Tony Lightfoot will be at the University Worlds. I'll be there too and can do what I can.
  21. Doin' the laundry....Man Style!
