  1. @Horton In 2011 MasterCraft offered Indmar or Ilmor as options. By 2012 MasterCraft boats were exclusively powered by Ilmor. Malibu last used Indmar in 2015 for the Response TXI.

You know the industry well enough to know that supplier decisions such as engine provider are typically made on a company level, not an individual model level. Additionally profitability and success of a company is based on the company as a whole.

When is the last time a towboat manufacturer produced solely competition ski boats?

  2. @Horton Yeah, that was all while John was at Bryant in Sweetwater, TN. Not long after the WT-1 launched (Wake Tractor) Correct Craft acquired Bryant (January of 2017).

By 2019 Dorton was out and joined Warbird Marine Holdings as CEO - they own Yellowfin and Invincible.

  3. @Horton Yes and no... for example Zack Worden would be a hard case for enshrinement in the USA-WWF Hall of Fame as his career was cut short due to injury. There are also individuals who had remarkable professional careers that did not have overly impressive careers in collegiate water skiing. No doubt there will be some overlap.

See Zack's results at AWSA Nationals:

  5. @Horton This is a challenging dilemma. If you look at current members, we have far more individuals inducted for their volunteer contributions than athletic performances.

I pulled scores and results for both Asher and Worden last night - those two are overdue for enshrinement IMO.

A collegiate organization by nature is high turnover. Given current rules an athlete can be involved with NCWSA from an on water perspective for AT MOST 6 years. To be considered for the HOF, volunteers or supporters must have been involved for at least 10 years, and many greatly surpass that requirement. Due to their longer term of involvement volunteers are likely to impact far more individuals and are thus more likely to have someone pen a nomination on their behalf.

All that being said I think it is equally important to highlight individuals in both categories.

  9. @BKistler I'll have to disagree with you here... Nationals (or pretty much any tournament for that matter) consists of far more slalom pulls than trick or jump. If you run nationals on a two lake site you need a dedicated slalom lake with trick and jump run on another lake. A trick only lake doesn't help you out.

  10. At least in the US they started that square windshield partway thru 82 and I’m not certain when the gauge pod was added versus the instrument panel being molded into the top deck.

Boats as early as the 1980 LTD had the squared windshield. I can't seem to figure out any reason why some boats had the round and other had square. It seemed the high end boats in the early 80s had the square glass windshield (LTD, highly optioned models, etc) as it was likely more expensive than the round plexiglass windshield.

  11. @vtmecheng MasterCraft introduced the WearGuard™ Pylon in 1989 in order to reduce ratcheting and prevent rope wear. These early WearGuard™ pylons had an Allen bolt which secured the pylon top to the pylon.

The 2014-2020 ProStar used two different pylons over the lifespan of the hull (one from ’14-’17 and another from ’18-’20) and neither had an issue with top. I spent thousands of hours in this hull driving and coaching.

For whatever reason on the 2021-2022 boats the top on some of the pylons seem to come loose but others have no issue. (maybe the tolerances aren’t quite right between the thread and the insert on some pylons)

An Allen bolt was added to the top of the pylon for model year 2023, but the boats used to pull the event were 2022 models which were performing really well (as evidenced by the scores produced during the event).
