  1. According to NCWSA rules, no fins, molded or otherwise, may be used at all. Though it also says non-conforming skis (aka wakeboards) may compete for half points. I don't see a problem with getting rid of the fin restriction to allow full points for wakeboarders. I could be wrong, but I feel it would be mighty difficult to beat a trick skier (of comparative skill) on a wakeboard due to the increased time required to complete equivalent tricks on a wakeboard.
  2. I presume you go running in your dress shoes, because putting on those new sneakers would make it "too easy"
  3. I'm very happy with my HO Point vest. One season on it and it's still good as new. Floats my chin right at the water line, which I like.
  4. Hi all, I will be in Rochester Hills, MI during August 10 - 14. Is there anyone in or around the metro Detroit area who would be willing to give me a few pulls?
  5. Well the way set screws work is by digging into the fin, so there's really no way to know if your turn of the screw is moving the fin x inches or digging into the fin x inches.
  6. My waterskiing rule of thumb: no matter how good you get, there will always be a 12 year old somewhere who's better than you.
  7. @thager, the only problem with that theory is, wakeboard boats are selling like hot cakes, and they can get almost twice as expensive.
  8. I'm going to be in Corinth, MS the week of July 8-12 and was wondering if there's anyone around the area who would be willing to give me a pull?
  9. I can definitely see this as being a big potential revenue booster for ski companies making tubes. Imagine the number of teenage kids who are going to want to get all the latest tubing gear.
  10. no the hole for the hex key on the screw is stripped. The block is fine. http://i.imgur.com/SXldj.jpg
  11. The rear screw on my 2010 A1 fin block has become stripped. Can someone suggest where I can get a new screw? It's been removed from the fin, so it's not stuck.
  12. Who here has experience with the HO Point vest? Buoyancy is a big factor for me.I tried on the O'brien Boost and it floated me really well (my chin was almost out of the water), but I'm also interested in the Point and was hoping someone could tell me how it floats. Obviously nothing NCGA will be super buoyant, but ive tried an Eagle vest and I did not like barely having my nose out of the water
  13. My thoughts: 2) I cut the yellow rubber warning label off my handle and it hasn't caused problems (shh, don't tell anyone!) I can't imagine why cutting the length labels off would make a difference. 3) Of course it's overpriced. That length of rope costs pennies to manufacture. It's expensive because it's "new technology." No one else has it, so they have no reason to drop the price. Rest assured, I agree. I wish they would lower the price too, but I guess it's the nature of the beast :)
  14. When I started with the baseball grip, I held the handle vertical. It felt closer to the old style grip and more natural. As I advanced in skill, my hands instinctively started turning to hold it horizontal, but I never made the change on purpose. Maybe that will help keep your mind off the foreignness of the grip until you get used to it. Especially on starts, I remember feeling very awkward having that right palm up and trying to stay balanced. Compared to palm down, it seems to open your shoulder up a bit while the other one stays closed, which could lead to unbalance. But with the handle vertical and both palms inward, it helped keep me aligned both in and on top of the water.
  15. The only reason I started making 1 handed turns was because my ski coach told me to. I had been told that it isn't necessary until '28 off and frankly, I was a tad scared to try it and get the rope yanked out of my hand. I'm not knowledgeable enough to say for sure what you should do, but my first guess would be you could try squaring your shoulders to the boat. If you try a one-handed turn in the position you're in now, I could see how you could easily fall since your left shoulder is far lower than your right, causing you to be off balance. But if both shoulders stay equal height and facing the boat while your hips and legs rotate for each turn, you stay balanced and expel minimum effort. Here's what I was first told regarding the turn: "Let go of the handle when traveling outwards, letting it dangle in your hand. Move your now free hand to rest on your hip. turn by "skiing back to the handle". Don't move your free hand off that hip, move your ski to meet it." My coach tells me "ski back to the handle" all the time because I always forget it, but it works so well. Instead of fighting the boat and pulling that handle back to your free hand and then forcing the ski to turn, you just leave the handle where it is and move your ski to catch up with it. I hope that helps/makes sense. Like I said I'm probably not good enough to warrant giving advice yet.
  16. I realized while skiing yesterday that I don't really have any middle ground on the course. Either my form is right and I'm just super early for every ball, or I'm just way out of wack and ski like total crap. It's an interesting, yet frustrating feeling.
  17. " @Wish, that gets me thinking. I'm a senior Mechanical Engineering student at GT; wouldn't it be super cool to work as an engineer for a boat company? Hmm... I may look into internships...
  18. Perhaps it's because the majority of boat owners seem to want something their entire family & friends can ride in, not something only big enough for the driver and spotter. Obviously the competitive skiers would buy the small boats, but would the companies make enough sales to warrant the R&D it would cost them?
  19. I could be wrong, but wouldn't the difference in ski length account for a greater change in performance than the difference in ski brand?
  20. Okay, weather permitting, I'm going to the dealership this evening to demo the VTX. Is there anything specific I should be looking for as I ski behind it? Anything I wouldn't think to observe that you guys would know of? @Patrick said the 2013's have a removable center pylon. In a picture of the 2012 VTX the dealer sent me there's a hole in the floor for what seems to be a center pylon, So I'm going to ask if that's what it is, and if he could throw the pylon in to the deal.
  21. Like the title says, is there any way to watch the Malibu open other than being there?
