  1. We ski in mission bay san diego and contend with wind. Most days we can get 60-90 minutes of glass and or very good conditions, but somedays, like yesterday, it is just blown out. We cant really tell until we get down there. Just curious how consistent or lack thereof are the conditions where you ski?
  2. I just bought a pair of Radar's iteration of clinchers. Work great but have only used once and cannot comment on whether or not they will last long.
  3. Cool. Just a casual observation, but the ski which I think is the nano, looks to be the most controlled ski, and the most popular in this group. The HO seemed to wheelie and didnt appear as controlled as the nano, the exception being Badal who made it look good. Thanks for sharing.
  4. It would be cool for a pro/manufacturer to document walking into a shop, buying a stick off the rack and driving straight to a tournament.
  5. Wow, are you suggesting Eddie is straight up lying? Thats a little harsh.
  6. @Eddie, as a consumer thats what I like to hear. If its good enough for them......... : )
  7. @Horton, I dont disagree with anything you said, and as I said in my earlier post regarding this subject, I can live with it. My point is simple. I am a consumer and I think when I am buying the 2012 Chris Rossi Strada, I think I am buying the ski he is skiing on. Pretty simple. We buy new skis, because we think we are buying those "current" skis. I dont think there is a right or wrong, but I would bet, while we are talking about these "custom" skis, there are likely other sticks that that go unchanged for a couple of seasons barring a sweet graphic upgrade.
  8. I think the 67 is too big for your weight (I am a solid 200 on a 68 and going down to a 67.5) so whatever you buy, use this site and the size guidelines of the manufacturer to get on the right size. As I am hunting for a ski myself, there are some very slight disparities in sizing. I have the hinged boot on my Connelly and think it is a good boot, but I also skied on a Stoker set up and I like those a lot. I think Connelly is interchangeable with D3, but not sure about Radar, I now HO is different. Just keep asking a bunch of questions and hopefully you can distill things down to something that will be a good set up for you.
  9. While I believe that the manufacturers probably do custom mold skis for their pros, I cant help to think what a sham it is to make us believe the ski we just plunked 1000-1500 is not the one we just saw "John Doe" skiing on at the Masters. The one in fact we think we are seeing used by the pro and possibly influencing our buying decision. I understand that it is A: Marketing, and B: R&D and I can live with it. But after hearing @horton say that he can ski any of the top skis within a statistical draw of one another (correct me if I am misquoting you) I dont see the value in the Pro NOT skiing on the ACTUAL off the shelf ski. Clearly we are scratching our heads and saying, "well is it or isnt it" seems all we can do is recognize the color or logo. I think it would be a cool marketing plan to sell their skis as "you are skiing on the exact ski John Doe set the world record on" sorry, a little off topic
  10. Can anyone comment on weight and dimension of a 68" ski? And thanks for the responses
  11. I am buying a couple of skis off of SIA and wondered if someone who has shipped a ski before can chime in on how much these things weigh and what dimensions the box will be and who best to ship with????? Both are going cross country. Thanks, Doug
  12. If money were no object I would murder out the space shuttle, drop a line of buoys across the pacific don a water proof nomex suit and shred 14000 balls between SD and Maui at 35 off.
  13. I agree it makes the boat look much newer. And the best part, if it gets old or you want a new flavor its a pretty simply operation and at least reasonably priced.
  14. Doug Roberts 46, I own a couple of businesses, www.vinaudit.com is my newest venture, you can pull the link if you need to, but thought I'd share. I also own two janitorial companies, one in san diego and one in Phoenix. I have been skiing since I was 7-8, started on two behind a 12 foot fishing boat with a 9.9 I was a very good skier through my teens but lost interest got married blah blah blah. I am now in kahoots with a group of skiers who get out weekly, sometimes twice weekly in the summer months. We are freeriders but did my first run at the buoys last week and we all had fun and are going back. I have 3 kids, 13 boy, 15 girl, 21 boy, the two younger have tried to wakeboard once each but are, unlike their father, risk averse. Love this site, looking forward to actually understanding the dynamics of skiing and becoming a proficient and maybe intermediate skier or better. This site is awesome and already appreciate all the info and feedback I have received!
  15. And quit calling it a wing, it is a foil. Hydrofoil really : )
  16. 75 Hidden Anchorage Mission Bay San Diego
  17. I would add that I am on the stock binding placement and removed the foil.
  18. There is no pressure in being obsolete. Deep breath..........ahhhhhhhhh. : )
  19. Extreme not answering their phone or responding to email, anyone know of a site where I can buy these doo dads. Thought they would be pretty easy to chase down, guess not. Thanks Doug
  20. The line load could be a fraction of the max line load during a pull and still cause a lot of injury. This is an interesting nut to crack and worth talking about.
