  1. @Jetsetr , I would not consider it a waste of Terry's time if you did have the opportunity some time. He is very supportive of people learning, expresses genuine interest in the student's success wherever they are on the path, and gives good advice as to what is the best thing to work on right now. So if you do get the chance, do not consider it a waste of anyone's time. @Hallpass has it right.
  2. I agree with @Dirt . Do this. He is there this week.
  3. @hemlock , that is really what it is all about, isn't it? I know how to do it on the snow, and kinda on the water, but not completely. I need to complete my learning on how to stay stacked no matter what, while resisting the boat, keeping hips and center of mass connected to the line, rather than moving with gravity. Then hopefully, I can remain stacked at all times.
  4. @cragginshred , fun you play at least one song! Yeah, these "the guys are older" days are not the same as the glory days, but I have to respect them for still putting stuff out, some of which I really like, and sticking together, and for gawd's sake, not dying! A lot of musicians, particularly front men, from that scene and era did not make it. I play some of their stuff too, among other bands's music as well. @schroed and I tried some fireside stuff last year too. He is more talented than I. I am jealous you have a steady band. I have not found time to make such efforts successful. Maybe in a couple/few years when the last of the kids closes in on leaving the house. But, also gotta find more course time in there too! :)
  5. Thanks for that update @jedgell . Sorry to hear of the passing, and the lake fading back away from more use. I saw PJ there in 2012 in the UofM fieldhouse, and it was great then too. I really like Missoula. Looking forward to visiting it again. About a 4.5 or 5 hour drive for me.
  6. Ok, will likely bring a mountain bike instead, and hope it is not too smoky. Concert should be fun though!
  7. Hey all! Looking forward to taking my 18 year old kid to see his first Pearl Jam show this coming Monday. We will be heading up a bit early. Any place to get a ski? He had his first course experience a week ago and now wants to chase more balls. Anyhow, PJ should be fun! We got tix up in the front pit so should be close.
  8. As I entered my first tournament last year at age 54, this rule change is relevant to me. Though because I never competed before, I do not understand the change, having no history of what things were like before. Can someone please explain? I thought my max speed last year was 34, and that the point of the rule change is to align with IWWF, and to allow women to continue to ski at 34 longer. I have no idea what the prior age cutoffs were. Can someone please help me with some history regarding the change and what the age max speeds are? Not thinking it is a huge deal for me, but just would like to understand. I do hope to still enter a tournament this year if my schedule allows. Also, I am still confused as to at what age the speeds change. Sorry to be confused.
  9. I love the lines and look of that boat!
  10. This is a great thread. Thank all of you for sharing your progress and what has worked for you. The common thread seems to be quality course time after/during fixing fundamental form issues. I think some open water to work on the form, and being aware of my body position, arms straight, etc. is good for me, complemented with plenty of time to get used to it in the course and carry it into the course. I fear that only beating my head against the wall in the course may hamper progress for me. In his analysis of my video, TW suggested that until I can really change my break at the hips off the wakes heading into the ball, I will have a hard time progressing. So that has to happen first. All paths are slightly different. PS, Apparently, I am now a mega-baller. Yay! Now, if I can just break out of 15! :-)
  11. Bumping this, as I do not see much progress this season yet, at least in the course. And that is hardly surprising, given my lack of course time. So I came here to read about someone who broke out of the 15 off cage. Even though I think my form has improved, it still has work to go. I can work on form free skiing. But then I need to be able to bring it into the course. I need a couple things off your list. First is, more course time. I need to figure out a way to put that in my control. Especially with a dedicated training partner willing to go out at least twice a week. And keep working on the stuff @twhisper has coached me to do. And video passes for further coaching, reality checks, etc. From there, I will see about things like messing with my setup, etc. Right now, my ski seems fine for me. For me right now, it seems more about timing, and keeping hips and center of mass connected to the handle better. And I think this will get easier as I get more time in the "terrain" of the course so that it is just another ski run and not something that seems unusual. Thanks again for putting up your story. Otherwise, a guy could get discouraged and think about giving up. Not me though.
  12. Never new that was there. Thanks. If this thread helps anything, leave it. If you want to pull it, feel free.
  13. I also dug a little more and found this at page 50 of the rules book. AWSA Rules Book
  14. I was reading a thread discussing progress in the course using metric line lengths and had trouble following as I have never thought about it that way, and have only ever known the Xft off method. So I found this one. Hope it helps someone else too! I found the chart here to credit the source. Slalom Ski Scoring
  15. @jjackkrash very kindly gave me and my son a couple pulls in a very nicely maintained course behind an awesome boat! He is a great guy. He also encouraged my son to try the course for the first time (see above) and my son dug it, and now wants more. I was able to give our host a couple pulls too. Thanks so much @jjackkrash ! Hope to have a chance to return the favor in Idaho if you are ever around!
  16. Not saying I do it well, but ideally I would exhale on hooking up and wake crossing (second half of turn) and inhale on pre-turn, first half of turn.
  17. I bat with my left foot front, have my left front foot on my ski, and hold my ski bar like I would my bat.
  18. Good to hear you are coming back! As you know, I blew a disc and missed a season in 2013. When I finally come back to running 28 offs as you are on track for, I will be pleased as punch. ;-)
  19. From the middle my fingers against my palm. I do get some ripped up callouses on the top pads of my palm where it comes into contact with the bar.
  20. I'm a Malibu Barbi. Lots available, great, great wake, good layout, etc. Specifically Response LX from that era.
  21. And great. We were just copied on a pre-evac notice for residents just across the road from us. GRR. My wife is home, and I am in Washington finishing what was supposed to be a vacation, but now is involving assisting my Mom in a health crisis. I hope they catch the assholes who started this. EDIT: Guess they already did. 22. Thanks guys, for the look. I submitted the vid to TW and got a great analysis of what is next. Totally worth the money. In the meantime, will take the improvement I have made. Just glad I can still improve and change things at this age. @bigskieridaho , Crescent Bar, and Vantage, and Potholes, were always sunny side of the state destinations for us western washingtonians when the mildew was getting too thick between are toes. Fun stuff! And Thanks for the complement. You saw me very first ride this year. Behind your boat. @scorban2 , I love my ARC. I am making good progress since I got it, so do not see a need or reason to change. I think it fits what I need well. It is forgiving when I don't do things right, and very rewarding and responsive when I do things better. Can't compare it to the Senate as I have never been on one. You are not near wiley's but if I was, I would be there testing some skis out. They have some good deals. The ARC is well worth a try! You might as well try the EVO too while you are at it. @ALPJr , I first learned behind a full tri-hull glastron with a little motor we raised by hand. Then my folks got a nicer SSV hull 17 footer they had until a few years ago. We put a CASAD tow bar in the center of it with the support bars, and it made for a great boat for our needs at that time. That one finally died, and Mom replaced it with the one in the video. She goes out in it some with us. But mostly she bought it so we would come and ski out at her place and on family visits such as the one above. Kind of a reunion thing we do. My Malibu kicks butt on all of those boats, but the Glastronn was sure fun on that day for what we were doing. It was super fun hanging out with these knuckleheads shredding around. (I am the dork all covered up like a bird watcher. ;-) But I live at altitude and hide from the sun these days. ) .
  23. @scorban2 , this is Magic Reservoir. South of Hailey. There have been two courses on it in the past. Neither were put in this year. I am looking around for the people that used to do it to see if I can help them and get it going again, so I can get more course time in.
