  1. Saw one or two of those old things under the ramp for one of the chairlifts at White Pass, back when I worked for my season pass up there in the summer. I think the twins skied on them at one point. But at this point, in the late 70's to very early 80's, they were just tossed under the lift.
  2. Glad they are ok. Speedy and full recovery to all.
  3. Ah yes. I forgot about that, since I ski up here pretty much in the great white north. I did ski a lot on a lake in Tacoma/Lakewood (Steilacoom Lake) which was treated with copper sulfate to keep the growth down. We had some pretty bad toxic blue algae one year. I forgot weeds were such an issue in those fertile waters down south. So, as little as possible I guess.
  4. None. Let the water be water. I am not skiing on a sweet sport drink, I am skiing on water.
  5. One additional thing that has helped me both change from sitting to standing, and standing to sitting, AND move every hour, is setting my Garmin fitness watch to tell me to move so if I get too zoned in the the machines, I can at least run up and down the stairs a time or two, or go do some errand or physical task, thereby breaking up the day. And I would like to add to that taking the opportunity to do a few stretches or core exercises a couple times a day. This is in addition to some form of workout on office days. Point being is a fitness watch like a Garmin or a FitBit or Applewatch or whatever helps. I was dubious, but it does.
  6. @DaveD , @gt2003 I do just that. I have a stand sit, that I usually leave up, then have my laptop I haul around for my sitting position, with a well positioned separate bluetooth track pad and keyboard. Standing was key to recovering from my original low back disc injury.
  7. @gt2003 I found out that my medial glut and glut minimus were weak, after doing some functionality and ROM testing as part of snow ski training. So I added that to the list. You should check that out as it can be a root cause of the issues I was describing. I got some therapeutic massage, did some exercises including band training on my lower legs, (stepping sideways, diagonal to the rear repetitions with the band, lunges, leg raises, etc. And a lot of stretching using poses such as pigeon and modified pigeon among others. That, and a lot of core and general stretching and general conditioning I do anyway seemed to do fine. I also laid off for about a month bicycle crunches, reverse crunches or anything that would tighten my hip flexors, as I attempted to loosen things. Seemed to work great for me, and gave me good results in preparing for my Level III Alpine exam. I am sticking with it as I enter waterski and cycling season.
  8. Wow. Now I am confused. The ARC seems to have gone away. At my level, I am not thinking I need to change an only season old ski that I seem to ski well on. But interesting nonetheless. Also, I googled for some info and saw another thread, that seems to have gone away. Anyone know where that is?
  9. Thank you, @Stevie Boy , good to know. I just got new T-Factors, which I love, last year.
  10. Found this one on my FB feed. Went and found the youtube version. Love this! Those old Glastron/Carlson boats were my favorite back then. I would have still been skiing on a Connelly wood Hook, then a Shortline at that time. Though in the much chillier waters of Puget Sound. PS, those jumpers are F-ing bad asses. The synced 360's alone are impressive, much less the jumping over the crossing skier. Those old jumping skis must not have had a light swing weight, and dealing with the pull of the boat/line and staying in such perfect upright balance and rotation, is . . . as I said, they are bad asses.
  11. @jimbrake I enjoy the discussions, as long as they are not just arguments about semantics that don't help move the ball, as long as it is with someone who wants to geek out on it for a bit, like you, and as long as it is not when I am in my boots or on my skis, unless maybe it is on the chairlift. Preferably over coffee before going out, or over a beer later. :) I think some discussion or focus is helpful, but we can't think that much and really perform while out there doing what we are supposed to be doing. Also, my feet don't like to stand around in my boots much. Thinking and talk on the dock (or chairlift), and hopefully more skiing with a good focus, and limited talk, during ski time. Hopefully that is the experience I provide an athlete when I am working with him/her. :)
  12. @Ajskier , sounds great! Skiing there, and here in SV (just was skiing with some snowbird folks here in SV yesterday) is some soft winter snow up higher in the shade, and good spring skiing elsewhere. Perhaps some new snow coming in too. A suggestion, consider trying out Snow Basin, a similar drive from SLC as compared to Park City. No base town like PC, but a great mountain with some great chutes and fun accessible with easy traverses from the top of a couple of the lifts. Just a thought.
  13. And "phenomenally" is very kind. Thanks, @Wish . But I really reserve that for folks like Mikaela Shiffrin, Lindsey Vonn, Ted Ligety, etc. I am competent. :) And I can help others have a good time and learn how to love the sport. I like that part. :)
  14. Thanks all. It was a lot of work, but the journey and learning from that work is its own reward, truly, though I am gratified to receive the recognition and pin. Though I thought myself a pretty good skier, I improved both my skiing and my coaching substantially in the process. It was a bit of a vision quest for me, along with getting my course skiing going and improving my technique there. Very happy. :)
  15. @disland It is a recognition of excellence from the Professional Ski Instructors Association of America (PSIA). It is the highest level of certification and is equivalent with the other countries' counterparts in Europe, Canada, etc. It is awarded for precision in skiing, and excellence in teaching/coaching. Not meaning to brag, but that is the answer to your question. You must display knowledge of body mechanics, equipment issues, movement analysis, learning and coaching techniques, all the skiing stuff, etc.
  16. Notched my first waterski slalom comp last summer (which was a personal quest), and earned my gold pin back just now, (which was another personal quest I invested in this year for myself). I had earned it in the mid 90's when I was but a kid, and used the process to modernize some things in my alpine skiing. Very gratifying to see the results of that work, and to earn the pin and have the recognition. Also, the Northern Intermountain examiners said they don't hand out many scores of 5 so glad to notch a few of those. :) Yay!
  17. Um . . . still working on that. In my defense, all items are older, but in good condition. The camper was a particularly good deal. :)
  18. @jpattigr , that looks a lot like the terrain where my son and I skied with Big Red Cats a couple winters ago. We hit it just right so conditions were perfect. But was thinking next time I wanted to leave time to get up further into the interior up by Revelstoke, etc. My profile pic is from that trip. @bigskieridaho , glad your trip was successful! @Zman , that looks great! Where were you? We got some good stuff in the last week also. After a dry winter, we received a ton of new snow in just a few days. Felt like winter really arrived!
  19. Hey, @bigskieridaho , @Mike Gile , my buddy Tim jokes how he is allowed to take his nuts out for a drive once in a while. I am a little better off than that. I have landed a Malibu, a Camper, and a truck in a year and a half. Now I just have to finish paying for it all. Or my nuts might get foreclosed on. ;)
  20. Crew cab. Not Mega. 2010. Pre-DEF. I know @bigskieridaho loves that Mega, but this crew is good for me. Spacious already in the back.
  21. Brought her home yesterday. Really low miles, interior looks and even smells new, never seen mud, bed looks like nothing was ever in it. Diesel, 6 and a half bed, 2500. Will carry that camper and tow that boat over the pass nicely I think.
  22. You know what, I never did. I forgot about them after I bought a couple pair of close out gloves from D3. Still interested though, when these are done.
  23. Yes, I added up deciding that the standard dad will be better for overall vehicle use and drivability. And it opens up the options quite a lot as you say.
