  1. First time heading to California to ski a private lake. (Liquid Zone). Will be back.
  2. @vtjc , yeah in winter, I have a few pair I use, depending on conditions.
  3. One ski to rule them all. My precious. And that said, I agree with @thager
  4. Liquid Zone, Sacramento area. Was able to squeeze a couple sets in over the weekend, along with some amazing area mountain biking, before probably hanging up the waterski for the year. Great site!
  5. Rooftop and other home solar is a big deal here in Sun Valley. Passive for heating water, etc., too. We have not added it yet, but we are full sun all day and would be good candidates. As for the boats and other vehicles, of course there are technological challenges, particularly with battery life and disposal and make up. But that will improve. I am looking forward to advancement of it all. As far as the sound, yes, there is a thrill from the sound of a big conventional motor. But the sound of spray when you are moving fast is fun too. My few times sailing has taught me that. Change can be good!
  6. Happy to ski a couple runs or quaff a beverage, or both, with you if you come @Chef23 . Let me know! EDIT: that goes for anyone else too.
  7. Well, I am sad that waterskiing is coming to a close for me. Though I hope to get some in this weekend. But about winter sucking, no it doesn't. Not where I live! :) *This is not intended as a commercial. It is just a cool video showing how great last winter was. *
  8. Congratulations on the new ski and on your anniversary! Notable for sure!
  9. @Alberto Soares , thank you very much for that. Will have to see if this particular trip comes together, but I am very enticed. I like the Santiago idea best so far, and would love to see if a trip could be combined with a stop down to Patagonia as shown in @MarcusBrown 's latest FlowPointTV episode. I think I could find a lot for my family to enjoy on a trip like that.
  10. @Than_Bogan Interesting thoughts. I am very visual and love visual art and coaching presentation, and etc. One thing I like about @MarcusBrown 's pod casts is that often he offers them on youtube in addition to the audio only. Sometimes I listen to the audio only, but lots of times I like the video presentation. I like a face with a voice, and often humor and other emphases are conveyed in an added way via video. Also, this video and type of video brings to waterskiing what has been going on in the snow ski industry with companies such as Teton Gravity Research and movies such as Valhalla by Sweetgrass production, and sponsored by snow industry companies to answer that point. (and you have to mention Warren Miller, now Warren Miller Entertainment, as he is the Don of ski films) And you can see this short Marcus made has inspired some here already to consider touring to the area to recreate and experience what they see going on. I personally think it is very important and love it.
  11. The Miranda Ski School in Santiago looks cool. Any feedback?
  12. Just day dreaming. But looking to see if there would be waterskiing and coaching/camps available in March in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Santiago, Chile, and/or São Paulo, Brasil? There is a Lollapalooza festival featuring Pearl Jam during mid to late March in those areas, and it would be fun if I could put a trip together and get an early start on the ski season as well.
  13. Sounds to me, with all the good progress, that @Buoyhead69 ought to at least demo the skis from D3 that come from the same family of ski design. Success breeds success. @Conor , you know something about getting through your 28s as well this year! Sounds like you might be thinking about something similar. ;-)
  14. Sounds like a great event. @6balls I am really hoping one comes back to the site of Nationals 2016 soon, up here in Idaho so I can go.
  15. Like the others said. I like the written, but some vid with some skiing in it would be a cool addition.
  16. First completion of the course at any speed under real conditions behind a tournament boat (zero off equipped). (not counting running it behind an old outboard years ago) First time membership in AWSA/USA Waterskiing and first time with a number First tournament. Multiple personal bests at the tournament, as I completed a couple passes and got into a third. Ended up with my tournament best being 3 at 15 off, 32 mph. Participated in a "head to head" winning one round, and ending by rounding 4, 15 off, 32 mph. First video coaching, and first in person lessons/coaching, which really helped with all of the above. ( Thanks @twhisper ). EDIT: Forgot two. First time owning calipers and wing gauges, and first time learning about and actually setting up my ski. And first full season with a tournament boat.
  17. Frankly, with what Horton says in bold above, I am going to check my rubber bindings on the dock with how I normally pull on the bungy for release as well. I don't over tighten, but still.
  18. I sure appreciated the comparison. I decided I am sticking with my ARC (yellow) as it fits better with my personal goals for my skiing. And I love it, so no need to fix what ain't broken. Mine is a 67" and I am 5'9" and 185ish depending on the week.
  19. I was thinking about that too, and the fact that if I am down at the private lake I get invited to, I am likely going to ski the course. Unless I make a conscious decision not to. After all, the balls are right there. If I am out on the regular lake, it is easier for me to spend some time drilling. In fact, I used to spend a portion of most runs doing that. It used to be a pulling drill. Now I would do some form of whips. I have not done so lately though. Need to get back to it. And maybe make a conscious choice once in a while at the ski lake.
  20. @bigskieridaho , I might have to take a quick road trip toward you this weekend.
  21. . Yesterday. Did not see the top this morning due to clouds. I bet there is more. Still hoping for one more warm up and final hurrah before I winterize the boat for winter.
  22. I haven't just lately, but want to get back to some to try to improve a couple things without being distracted by the balls. There was discussion of one here somewhere where basically you took a whip drill, and made it so you tried to get as high up on the other side of boat from where you started as possible. Which trains turn entry, and also path at the same time. I think it might have been something @AdamCord was talking about? Been meaning to go find it. Also was thinking about trying some Stisher whips.
  23. This pod cast, which I will re-watch today some time, touches on something I have been trying to figure out. How to bring my hips and COM over my front foot better, without relying too much unduly arching my lower back, bringing my hips up, etc. Marcus says it simply. You move your hips relative to your feet. Which can be just a shifting of the hips. And to do that, it is a whole lot easier if your hips are open and can move well. How that move works is something I am still exploring. If I stand in position (LFF for me) dryland, and play with it, it feels like a straighter rear leg and more a little more front ankle flexion, which allows for a shift of the hips over the front foot. I am thinking you have to start there coming in to the turn, and coming out of the turn, not fall behind by progressively moving those hips over the front foot in the direction of travel and along the ski. And having even load on the arms makes it easier. How open to the pylon and line in order to promote even load depends on heel side/toe side, and how open you are physically. Any further thoughts on how to make that shift/move would be appreciated. Meanwhile, thanks again for the podcasts.
