  1. Did Dube's used to have a floater course back before the current bottom-anchored course which was put in back about 2002.
  2. At one time several years ago, Kris LaPoint told me that he and brother Bob would get only 12 sets out of a slalom line! Got to wonder if I heard that right. But, that was back a couple of cycles ago with the Rules specifications about towlines. May have been back in the days when the standard material was 8-strand line of the original AWSA specs.
  3. Jody Seal could probably solve the problem in a short time.
  4. If Jacinta has 36 wins in a row, she is nearing Deena's 'record' of 38 in a row.
  5. What happened to the live video? Looks like the event is over; I must have lunched out.
  6. Unless it has changed, there is a vertical stone wall across. Wouldn't be difficult to put in some rip-rap rock.
  7. If you are going to have 1/4, you should have 3/4. Which could be getting back in the wake with a pile of slack, and letting go.
  8. Dave Clark probably has a ton of it. I'd be interested to follow your engineering project Note that the Video Jump system was pioneered by Bob Corson and Tom Boddoroff. Corson may be able to provide the mathematical framework for the 3D geometry. Dave Clark did some extensive work on refining the accuracy of the VJ system. You may want to provide some background for jump distance measuring, with the Martin and Johnson meter systems. And then there is this from the Way Back:
  9. ...and they are also innovating a division for guys who ski in Speedos. Any questions, just check the date.
  10. The 1979 Worlds and 1990 PAWS Tour were held at Center Island in Toronto, but I very much doubt that course is open and maintained. Note: a straightforward posting, not a 4/1.
  11. AWSA 3-event traditional Nationals in Seattle: 1950 and 1972.
  12. One possible innovative idea came from Chuck Stearns when he was at the Hall of Fame. Was a small fin sticking out of the side of a Sl ski, about at the binding level. I never heard more from any one who might have tried it. But, to me, it sure like it had potential to do fillet O'skier on a fall.
  13. I have worked there, surveying a slalom course. The place is a high level alternative to just a ski site. Sure should be a good place to work at, for someone who is willing to work and not just cruise along. Maybe someone from Down Under would be appropriate, as has been the case for many times in the past. Best wishes for their upcoming early season SL tournament.
  14. Sure looks like a good price if the deal includes the lake use. Might be tight clearances if a jump ramp is to be fit in, but workable for at least practice jumping, heading in the Southwest direction. Narrow in some areas, even for slalom: under 50 meters wide.
  15. Women Jump 1st round: Jacinta Carroll 189', 57.5m. New site record. 18' over 2nd place.
  16. Will won, but in a close one, by the sum of the two rounds. 10:29am today 3/8 is 2:29am on 3/9 in Melbourne, so it was a safe bet, since the event had concluded??
  17. Pro Tour went there once. We competed in their main drag race lake. Serious backwash from the sides, but the scores were still good for that era.
  18. We ran into that during Waterski Mag Boat Tests. Plus, boats that would start in-gear, and stay in gear if the throttle/shift handle was slowly moved to Neutral. Of course this was never published in the reviews.
  19. When I was a kid, the Opechee Jr. Water Ski School next door had a disc. That was a big one; about 4 feet in diameter.
  20. @ALPJr correct on the lake, but not on the spelling. Event held in a cove at the North end of the lake. For a non-built ski site, it was a good venue.
  21. Here is how it used to look. 1964 Nationals on the last day, during Mens Jumping. Solid mat of spectators. Also note the TV camera on the dock at the left. At that time, water skiing competition was seen as an extreme sport, particularly jumping.
  22. Another key player there was Guy Lavigne. He owned a ski shop and then a marina in Sunapee harbor. We even put on a ski show in the harbor once. Yup, Winter can be brutal; I remember it wasn't until Memorial Day that the ice fully cleared out. Good to see that the slalom course is still being used. I had a house in New London from 1972 to 1980, before moving to FL.
  23. When I was in college, both Warren and John Jay would bring their yearly edition of their film each fall 50+ years ago.
