  1. Extra perk: On August 21st, there will be a total eclipse of the sun at Charleston, SC. Totality just misses the site, from what I can see.
  2. Where is Alex Lauretano in the Women jump qualifiers? 2nd in the last Rankings list. See: http://masterswaterski.com/athletes/
  3. Too bad they are not also using the IWSF application: iwwfed-ea.org/classic/competitions/2017
  4. CP missed by 1/4 buoy. Brutal. Maybe if they have a clue, he will get a Wild Card invite.
  5. Interesting idea from @liquid d But, probably would have to limit it just how far back in time a World Record holder was. Maybe 10 years?
  6. Nice going Jon. But watch out for CP. @Ralph Lee Works for the Golf Masters. Lifetime exemption if you choose to take it.
  7. Think they might have tied with going up at 10.75 and back at 10.25. Maybe with 1 or 2, plus zero. In the days of add buoys.
  8. Yep. Would look at the boat path and gates for 41 off 10.25m, as well as 9.75m. At the 1977 Nationals in Berkeley, with continued runoffs that probably took longer than the event itself, 2 skiers got into 3 loops beyond 38 off. The Technical Controller had to keep hustling down with fid and line segment to keep adding loops. So, the line had 10.75, 10.25, and 9.75 added. Final-final runoff between 2 skiers was up at 10.25 and back at 9.75. Both scored zero plus zero, and it had to be ruled a tie. Rules changed after that. They had been requiring a new shortening for a continued tie.
  9. I wonder if anyone has experimented with trying to score anything on the next line loop after 9.75m? Which is 9.50m. Could be an interesting fun challenge for $$. Back in the late 1970s, when we were a bunch of dubbers at Ultra Pond in NH, Mark Crone challenged anyone to even score one buoy at 38 off. He made it sound so difficult that none of us tried it. I kind of regret that now, but you can't turn the clock back.
  10. Link, shmink. Here it is in text for Lisa St.John in the Orlando area: LINK Great personality to work with.
  11. Happened at one of the Nationals at DuQuoin, IL. Rope was left on 22 off, rather than set back at 15 off for the next skier. The skier, or someone, complained and the boat judge even said it had been set back to 15 off. But, there was video from the shore that showed the error, and the skier eventually got a reride with the correct starting length.
  12. I did some slalom course surveying/adjusting on that lake a couple of times. One of them was in January when it was brrrrr, as I was doing the water part, with Mike Kjellander on my survey instrument.
  13. Yup. Records can go up slowly. The Mens record was stuck at 4 @ 38 for about 5 years during the 1970s.
  14. Agreed that he's great, but it's a bit early to call him greatest of all time. Consider Andy, the LaPoints, and even Warren Witherell. Hmmm...how would Nate do riding a squareback SL ski!? Time will tell. At one time, Tiger Woods looked like a certainty to win the most pro golf tournaments, especially the most majors. Oops.
  15. Nate just ran 3 @ 9.75 (43 off) in the Final Round, for a potential World Record.
  16. Some BIG scores happening, with 16 men running 39 off in Round 1.
  17. And, don't forget about getting checked for prostate cancer. I was lucky to find out early, and go through treatments, back in 2012.
  18. I also have a way of fidding up a loop of line that goes over and through the buoy, but it is a bit time-consuming. Method needs to cut 2 notches in the buoy.
  19. @Nando 's idea works well, and is relatively EZ to do. Just use a PVC endcap that needs a press fit to go in. Plus glue. I've used solvent glue.
  20. Quite a bit of history there. Two Pro Tour tournaments (1990 & 1991). Kris LaPoint had a win in 1991. "Fun" dealing with 7 ft. of tides. Back When, I believe that Carl Roberge trained there. Late in 1973, Western Wood made a ski movie there.
  21. This is from the Back When, but I found that my rear ankle would hurt when I got squashed on a poor turn. Jumping probably also aggravated it. Anyway, I turned my rear binding a bit, maybe 15 degrees. Nowhere near what is done with a trick binding. It helped a lot. Some time later, I looked at a ski that Warren Witherell had, and he did the same thing. "Great minds think...?!" Ho-ho. Trivia: In his prime, was Warren ever a World Champion or record-holder in Slalom? Or in another event?
  22. If you drive 30 minutes West, you'll have plenty of skiing water...in the Gulf of Mexico, ho-ho. However, Lucky Lowe's is about 30 minutes East, as is Kyle Eade on Grew Lake. One thing you might find interesting about McCormick's is the cableski. The boat lake is still fully set up for 3-event.
  23. She was secretary for me for one SL course survey. Nice penwomanship. And also a pleasant attitude.
  24. For sure, if you are a jumper, you should give Cobles some business. Well worth it to get some top instruction. And, they may have advice on jump sites to check out.
