  1. Yeah this video was edited in the Go Pro Studio. I took one pass out of a longer recording and then changed it to slow motion. That could be the problem. It does play on You Tube however. It accepted it as you said it would. Have you had any experience with uploading off the Go Pro Studio site.
  2. "> Sorry video is not uploading to play. Will look to correct
  3. Thanks for the wing position tip. Tried 10 degrees this week. I've always had my skis set at 8 degrees, so 10 is allot for me but the ski felt just fine and it seemed to turn with a lower attitude through the turn I will say. The high tip on my offside is partially caused by poor position just prior to the turn and occurs at the end so for now I'm blaming that one on myself. You clearly can see in the video that I'm in pretty good position right into the turn, but I'm not quite countered enough and tend to come over the top in apex causing a slight delay. With the old settings my ski would stop, now even with not so good positioning I'm getting a better follow through. I won't touch anything and ski some more with 10 degrees and try to correct the pre turn to produce a better turn position. Next adjustment I will try the binding at 29.375" from 29".
  4. @skijay Skied today with the re-adjusted fin at as close to stock settings and now the ski feels like it should and much more like normal. Much lighter and smoother feeling in the turn now on both sides. No buckling on both sides anymore. Turns out my fin came to me .050 to long. Just took one set tonight and stayed at 28. Binding is at 29". Skied with Than Bogan and he was observing that the onside looked good, but the ski seemed to riding high coming out of the offside turn. It felt squiggly to me coming out of the turn maybe because of not enough ski in the water. Some on this site say go first to experimenting with different wing angles so next time out I'll go 10 from 9 degrees.
  5. @KTM Time to get the right caliper. I wish the manufacturer would help by taking into account the different measuring devices are out there and publish the numbers for the two different methods. Thanks to everyone for supplying the conversion numbers. Glad to have the ski at the correct starting point. My ski is a 66" and the front binding, D3 T-Factor is 29"DFT for now. Any consensus on what seems to be the ideal DFT for the 66". I read the post from David Miller and how he stressed the importance of getting the correct DFT for the rear boot. I use a RTP and I may not be getting my foot in the correct spot every time. Some of the best skiers use a RTP. Any tips or suggestions to assure that you are getting the proper foot position for the rear foot with a RTP
  6. Reset the FL measurement to 6.845 with the tips of the caliper. Measuring with the jaws of the 1st generation caliper it came to 6.710. The FL was off .058-.060 from the factory
  7. @skijay Ok. I measured my FL using the tips of my slot caliper (1st generation) following the technique written about by Chris Rossi in an article and I'm getting 6.900 FL on my fin. Again the measurement with my 1st generation caliper using the jaws is indeed 6.768 the stock number that Goode specs say to use with a digital slot caliper. So my fin FL settings were off. I talked to Goode today and they said they do not have conversion numbers to give me for those of us who have the old style caliper. According to different threads, they confirm that 1st generation dial calipers "need" to subtract .060 from the jaws measurement of the 2nd generation slot caliper to be accurate. My caliper measurement with jaws should then be 6.708 which is -.060 from stock specs. I appear to have a fin that is .052-.060 to long. Secondly, what is the reason to drop the DFT to .694 from .705 as well?
  8. @skijay ok will do, but! What's interesting then is why would the numbers be "so close" to their specs. Put another way. If I'm getting the same numbers as the Goode specs with the (sort of wrong) standard caliper does that mean the original set up is slightly off. The FD and FL is not as far off as DFT. Thanks again for the help. I hope to make some progress this week.
  9. @skijay Thank you for all the good tips. Back on the water tomorrow. If I understand everything I should try a 10 degree wing first. Next. Not sure if the buckling problem is more or less tip. So I'll try "increase FD+.005, less FL to keep fin area balance" or skijays numbers or "decrease front of fin to just affect the off side" and see what happens. The later adjustment use to help on the Connelly's . I'm nearly 20 years on Goode skis and I always have reverted back to stock fin numbers as well Last ski was 67" 9800SL
  10. @skijay The description is really buckling at the end of the turn. So here are the numbers with tips. DFT is not an exacting measurement and I'm getting between .705-.710, Length is 6.768, Depth is 2.492. Binding is 29" and the wing is 9*. To your last paragraph. I started with the binding at 28.825 and 9 degrees. The offside was not turning well at all so I put the wing at 8* with that binding position and it improved the offside.
  11. @brettmainer I look at my video and I'm pretty satisfied that I'm staying with the handle and staying back all the way to the turn on both sides. I'm trying very hard to be patient and stay countered but on the onside a slight buckle occurs at the end of the turn and I recover quickly. The offside is worse. Part of it is me pulling in to early there but I don't feel like the ski is following through as good as it could. My fin is set at stock but I'm going to get the exact numbers and put them down. My first move that I was contemplating would be to raise the front a bit and keep the length by increasing the depth.
  12. I moved my binding to 29" from 28.875 and to 9* and it made a big difference on my off side turn. However I seem to be buckling slightly or getting some hesitation on both sides. I can see that happening on the offside turn for me, but never had that issue with on side. So not sure which to go to cure that problem. The ski is basically turning well now but I feel hesitation on both sides as the ski is about to complete the turn. According to Goode Specs "increasing fin depth" lifts the tip on both sides. Anyone have any luck with that move. Option 2 is to raise the tip of the fin. I've had that work on my offside before. Moving the fin forward helps the offside tip but I've never used that to cure a little buckling. Looking for suggestions!
  13. Thank you. I certainly can move the bolts on the power plate and I will do that to get the binding neutral and have more options for placement. I'm using the KD T-Factor binding. I've heard that skiers on the Nano One were moving their bindings first as well. The ski feels real good right now but I'm still on 28. Will soon start with some 32"s
  14. Just started with the 66" XT a few weeks ago. Coming from a 67" 9800SL. I've started with the Nano XT stock settings for the fin but the front binding is 1/8" forward of stock. I use a rear toe strap. I placed the binding that way because I'll need to drill out the bindings holes a little to allow it go to back into the stock position but I figured it was no harm in starting in that spot. I'm left foot forward. Skiing at 28. My first impression with the ski is a good on side turn but a slow delayed off side. I've always skied with an 8 degree wing forever. so after few sets I went to the 8 degree postion and it cured the offside turn. I'm only 6 sets into the season and the ski but I think I feel a better angle crossing the wake with this ski. My questions to the experts is this. There is a reason the ski specs say set the fin at 9-9.5 degrees. I assume I'd get more from the ski at those settings but have experienced the same delay in the past with the offside turn unless I'm at 8 degrees. Any ideas how I could set the ski up with a 9 degree wing and get good turns on both sides? Any ideas on my problem. I'm Men5 and when I'm up to speed I have run to mid 39 in the mid 2000's. Now I max out at between 3-5 38. Please help?

  16. @tuna I'm sorry to hear about your rupture. stay focused on your rehab and it will come along slow but sure. You have an aggressive surgeon. some of us were in a cast for 6 weeks then a boot. I know someone who was weight bearing after 12 days. My PT says it's great to start early but your achilles is very vunerable for a about 6-8 weeks. he showed me MRI pictures of an achilles tear at many stages up to 6 months and it was very revealing to see it from that level. it showed graphically that it does take 6-8 weeks to get past the re-tear danger zone. I wish I could have started PT earlier but I feel I got a good healing period nonetheless. so good luck to you @zman I'm 7-10 days behind you and I'm wondering how your strenght is? What excercises do you do the most? For me I'm walking better but still not with full ROM to take a full step at normal speed. I can get full ROM while walking slowly. Still seems to be very weak. I'm doing lots of toe raises with both legs and on one leg with help, but can't begin to come close to lifting off with one leg. Can you give me some detail of how much you can do with toe raises? @kerrylakelover- if you haven't solved your sleeping with the boot problem, my surgeon made up a sleeping splint for me which was just a casted shape of the bottom half of my leg and foot from the calf down to the foot. I would place it on the back of my leg and foot and then apply it with an ace bandage. It was so much more comfortable to sleep with instead of the boot
  17. Interesting. So if I understand you I place my foot on the scale with basically half on and half off the front of the scale and I see how much weight I can hold? If done correctly I could hold about 80lbs and I weigh 190. Am I doing it correctly.
  18. I am 11 weeks post op and I have been walking around without the boot at home for 5 weeks. Last week surgeon said I can start going out without the boot. I'm fitted with a millimeter heel lift for my sneakers. My PT is going to have me remove one mil per week. Doing PT everyday mostly calf raises and assorted calf related exercises. Going to gym for cycling, treadmill and weight training. Calf/Achilles strength is real weak and my range of motion is improving very slowly. I can walk without a limp if I walk slowly and really concentrate. Getting better with single leg balancing. Swelling is slowly going away in most of the foot, but still prominent around the incision. I still feel that raw wound feeling at times. Outside incision is almost closed up. During calf raises the good leg does most of the work. Can't really push off with bad foot when walking or climbing stairs. How are the rest of you guys progressing in the strength department?
  19. I ski with Than and I tore my achilles tendon back in July. I cannot say definitetively that I hit the buoy because it happened so fast and I went flying through the air, but I most likely did. I immediately started to think about a safer buoy system. After some discussion our club decided to purchase the bubble buoy system, but we haven't acted on that just yet. I still drive for Than and club members and I keep wondering what material and shape would be the best for the turn buoys. Some good ideas have been proposed. I wondered about a thin cylinder shape, something small enough that you wouldn't likely be able to ski over it. A cylinder shape like the foam boat gates but with a round top. With that in mind we are now talking about something like the noodle. It seems like a small cyclinder shape with a better material could possibly be deflected in such a way that a ski hitting it would be less likely to run directly over it. We have to think about what it would feel like if a part of the body hits it directly however. I'm not engineer so I'd like to hear from those of you that are. Could a round Octogonal shape improve the deflection capability. Could this make it more likely that the buoy would turn away if the ski hits it. What other shapes could work? . The Nerf Football shape may have some possibilities. I have no experience with bubble buoys. They seem like they would do the trick. What is the concensus about whether or not they are safer and by how much.
  20. I'm 9 weeks post op. I have been walking without crutches with the boot for 2 weeks. Great to be free of crutches. I take the boot off at home and walk without it. The swelling is starting to come down now that I have been walking on it more. Range of motion while walking is very limited and I've noticed just a little improvement there. I've got to say that my wound is still experiencing that raw wound burn feel off and on. Mostly off but still there. Next week at 10 weeks and two days I'm to see the surgeon and should get permission to go into a sneaker. My PT told me to order heel lifts which I've done. For PT I'm doing rubber band work with foot motions in all four directions, heel toe raises, easy calf raises with the good leg doing most of the work, walking on a treadmill and some bike work. I can balance pretty well on one foot. It's hard to believe it's been 9 weeks now. It's clear that it's going to take a while more to feel strong to walk good and be confident that you are past the point of re-injuring yourself by just stepping on something or walking in a rut. I plan on using some type of ankle brace in the beginning if it looks like it will help and fit good in the sneaker. @bobs I didn't experience any numbness either and remember Claudia telling me that at the tournament. How is she doing? It's about a month now? My Best to everyone!
  21. Very glad to hear everyone is progressing well. I met up with Claudia who tore her achilles two weeks ago at a NH tournament. It always helps to compare how things are going. Haven't had much to report over the last 3 weeks. I've been in a boot and have been able to do ROM exercises. I'm 49 days post op. My MD told me I can start to walk with two crutches and go to one in 2-3 days. In about one and half days my PT gave me permission to use just one crutch. I feel strong walking in the boot. I'm walking slowly around the house without any crutches. I focus on walking on the heel first. I'm starting to work with a PT tomorrow. Still dealing with swelling but that sounds like the norm. Looking forward to get his evaluation and PT protocol I can now start sleeping without the boot as well. I did try walking with a crutch and no boot very very slowly to see what it felt like. Since my foot is swollen it feels somewhat weird stepping on the swollen foot, but I can still weight on it. I will post more often now to keep everyone up on my PT progress. @garn. I can't bend my ankle yet how long did it take to be able to take a normal step. you said your leg is still very weak, but you say you think you could still be strong enough to go running? Hope you all are still progressing MikeT
  22. 29 days post op (7/24) and in a boot for a week now. I take my boot off as much as I can and I'm doing similar ROM exercises that you guys seem to be doing No PT but doing the exercises on my own. Still pretty swollen. Decent side to side and circular motion movement. My foot goes down pretty good, but very tight moving upward and doctor told me to stay within that range for now and don't push it. Glad to see you are beginning your weight bearing. Anything similar on this one? I have to wait to week six to begin weight bearing. I have started to place a small percentage of weight on it however, very small. I did have that burning pulling sensation in the wound but mostly gone now. Not much change in the swelling however. How is your swelling progressing? Looks like I'll be 2 weeks behind you guys on weight bearing. I'm anxious to start that part and be able to get around the house without crutches. I think it is good having all the post here. If it's an indicator of the popularity of this thread look at the amount of views to our thread. It's ranks right up there. I know in the past I would look at injury threads to see if there was something in there that would help me prevent a future injury I had allot of trouble sleeping with the boot the first night and it's getting easier. A few days ago I went on the Bledsoe website to see that they have a smaller boot made for sleeping. So i called my surgeon and they said I can come in Friday and they will fix me up with a sleeping splint. So I'll let you know how that is when I get it. I figure to be in the boot for almost 6 more weeks so it may make a difference.
  23. 23 Days post op and cast was removed, staples were removed and I now have a boot. I have to wait till 42 days to bear weight. I can do range of motion execises at home with the boot off and ice it down as much as possible. My doc is a little more conservative. He wanted me in a cast for six weeks but I requested a boot and he agreed. Glad to be in a boot after three weeks. I was hoping to begin weight bearing after 4 weeks but 2 more weeks of healing will be better in the long run. I haven't measured my calf and thigh but it appears to be a little smaller. good luck guys. I'm looking forward to the pt and begining to work out for next years ski season
  24. @Zman thanks for the information. sounds like you are having the same experience I am having. I've done a little icing above and below the cast and I will increase that at your suggestion. The problem I've developed because I keep my leg up on a pillow allot is that my knee becomes very stiff when I try to bend it. Doesn't take long to loosen but it does it everytime I have it up. Do you have that situation with your knee? Are you doing any exercises? I have been doing pushups, situps and arm curls once twice daily to feel like I'm trying to stay in shape and add to that the workout we are getting going around on crutches every day. When I'm sitting or in a car I hold my leg up in a horizontal position trying to work the quads on the bad leg. MikeT
  25. 18 days post op. I undertand the swelling will there for awhile. I'm 18 days post op and when i put my foot down I feel the blood rushing down to it, I feel an increase in the swelling and color to my foot. I put the foot back up and it subsides. How is that part been for you guys? I was told the swelling will begin to decrease when you start weight bearing. When did you begin to feel relief in the swelling pressure and different stages.
