  1. This is my first review of a ski on here since I haven't changed skis since I got on my 9900 mid-ride a few years back. So let me tell you where I'm coming from first: I have skied on the 9900 since it first came out a few years back, but I have "experimented" with every Goode ski since. It's also important that I make it clear that I ski at 36mph so 34mph skiers can take it for what it's worth. Ok here goes: The XT is the BEST ski I've ever skied on! I've only had 3 sets on it but I'm convinced it is a great ski. I tried the Twist and didn't like how I had to be cautious on my off side turn because of the twist but I didn't spend a lot of time on it so it could have just needed some adjusting but it wasn't anything better than the 9900 mid-ride I was on. End of last year I tried the Nano One a number of times and it was a step backwards for me at 36mph. Sure it could shut down in the turn, but I could never get the speed I needed to make that really work to my favor at 38 off or shorter. Now let's get back to the new ski, this ski is FAST...I can't say it's faster than the 9900, well yes I can I take that back. It has all the speed of the 9900 and every ounce of shut down that the Nano One has. At factory settings it would dive a little (I assume because of the rocker) but after a 1/8" bump forward with the bindings it made turns like a champ. It's effortless on my off-side turn and nothing but fun to crank on my good side. It finishes the turn nicely and will create as much angle as you're able to hold onto. I turned 4 ball at 38 a little hard because I was early and wanted to see what I could get away with and got lean locked into 5 ball. On my old ski I'm fairly confident I wasn't making that turn but the ski hit the brakes, I waited for it to come under me and we were off to 6 early and feeling a little relieved and a whole lot of giddy. One last thing, I had to make my edge change earlier than before because the amount of speed I could create would get me too wide too soon in the course which is really only a problem at 38 off and shorter probably. So I took 2 sets at factory settings, made a slight binding adjustment and on the 3rd set was one buoy off my practice pb and I'm just starting to get used to it. Bottom line this ski is as fast as any ski I've been on, lack of width is not an issue, the edge change is smooth and the XT shuts down in the turn better than the Nano One. Well done Dave...can't wait for my neXT time on it! My 2 cents
  2. I just heat molded mine without the insoles and I never use them...pretty sure that's the best way to get rid of the problem.
  3. necks need to get sore skiing not looking sideways at the computer screen
  4. @markchilcutt good thing 2013 ends this week with nationals and next week is 2014 season...better start working for next years new pb!
  5. Progression is based on improving technique required to run the pass. I don't think that skiing "mid-loops" is the answer to doing that, but if it makes you feel more comfortable and gives you more confidence then I can't imagine it hurts, but I would spend more time working on technique at 35 off and do fewer attempts at 38 off for a few weeks if it were me.
  6. Most people have to realize one thing...at short line (38 off and shorter) you don't "adjust" after you turn in for the gates. We judge our start before the boat displaces them and then we just pull. If you attempt to adjust your gates at that point you're already done with your pass. If you are constantly cutting it close and missing a few of your gates you must change when you start because you will never be able to adjust on the fly at that speed and that line length.
  7. we use the term "praying" when we have to pee instead of mentally preparing...hold on a sec I just have to say a prayer! If you get bent over in your term we use the term "new guy in prison" That shouldn't require any additional explanation "deep" is used to pretty much explain most turns I make around buoys (especially 2 and 4 ball) and just remember, nobody puts @brady in the corner!
  8. Well it's that time of year where me and my ski partner @klundell start issuing interesting challenges. The latest challenge: skiing wrong foot forward. Well I've never even tried it before and we had to get on an old ski with rubber bindings (my old goode 9500) so we could switch our feet around and then we were off. The first pass was the mini course at 30mph 28 off: After making quick work of that might as well try the big course: I realized I was still trying this at 28 off so had to get after it on the last attempt so here's round 2 of 26mph 28 off: Anybody else do stupid stuff like this to keep the sport fun?
  9. The answer is definitely not less angle pull longer! You need to create more speed, just like @klundell said, at 36mph speed is your friend and you have to learn how to use it to get width which brings me to my second point that @MattP made and that is you have to get higher up on the boat on your gate! You should be well outside the turn balls at 28 off when you pull out. This allows you to have a progressive turn in and create speed to the center of the boat because you now have more distance to accelerate which will create more width into your turn and a better line out of the turn. Whatever you do, do not pull past the center of the boat aka "through the wakes"!!!!
  10. I heard yes...and my source was Nate Smith if that helps
  11. Just go through the gates...it's not that difficult. I still can't figure out why this is such a big deal right now. It won't make the sport any more exciting to watch or any safer to remove the requirement of going through the gates. Your frustration on not being able to see some pro/amateur run their hardest pass because they missed their 35 off gate should be directed at the pro that missed his gates, not at the rules. It just seems like everyone wants the rule to change because it's easier to not judge them...and if that's the case then instead of @horton's idea to move the 5 ball in 6 inches let's just not judge that ball altogether?
  12. One Chuck Norris thread is enough...it's not even funny anymore!
  13. Nate said the slowest he's made a pass was 12mph @ 28 off...anybody beat that?
  14. I'm going to try this...maybe post a video haha
  15. I really only come back to this thread to see if anyone posts if the jumper got out of this unscathed?
  16. I'm pretty sure everyone noticed I missed the gates but the video wasn't posted as a clinic for how to navigate the gates properly
  17. and you have to ski outside of it after the 6 ball to complete the pass
  18. Heck let's just make a zero ball that you have to ski around on the left side of the course...as long as you go around that ball you can go whenever you want. We can put it inside the 2/4/6 buoy line (probably 10 feet) and as long as you ski around that ball you have entered the course. Now that's out of the box :)
  19. Do you wear under gloves? I don't think my response will help but I have always just held the rope with my finger tips more than in my palm but my ski partner @klundell has suffered with this same problem for most of his skiing life...maybe he has some advice since he's tried just about everything.
  20. I guess anybody that can run 41 off better than Nate can give him some pointers on how to negotiate the gates better. So he's had a few pulled, that's the game but how many attempts at 43 has he scored 0 on because of gates? I haven't heard of one
  21. Maybe someone needs to start a thread titled, "Did anyone hear what Chuck Norris did today in practice?"
  22. oh and ps @ntx the first crash probably didn't count since it was in practice so I did it in a tournament...class c so it barely counts I guess but I have regionals next week that I'll try and get it done in too ;)
  23. guys ntx has clearly determined that practice doesn't count so it doesn't matter what CP or Nate Smith did in practice
  24. @skoot1123 Here is another video clinic @jcamp come on over and ski sometime @horton I'm doing exactly what @klundell is telling me to do...should I find a different coach? haha Apparently I've perfected the backslide and scrapping out way more buoys than I deserve....this is what happened the next day at the tournament...I stopped sliding about 30 feet from the dock
