  1. I learned a similar way except I was told to start going around the 1, if I could make it to 2 do it if not mini course and continue down the course always trying for real buoys but if I wasn't going to get there take the mini course ball
  2. I've found that warm water feels "slower" and that cold water feels "faster" both referring to how fast it feels like I'm moving and how much time I feel like I have at the buoy. One explanation that has been suggested to me is that for some physics reason the ski doesn't take quite as much angle out of the turn which then sets your path more at the ball so you don't generate the same amount of time before the buoy as when you set yourself up earlier with more angle. These are just my personal observations from skiing everything from 80 degree water to 40 degree water but I could easily be way off the mark.
  3. @beans, sorry this took so long. Here are pictures of the fronts, backs, fins, tips, and where the binding locations. Let me know if you need any more pictures.
  4. keep the head and shoulders level, stay tall on the ski, don't over pull/over load, and keep the core tight to maintain a constant body position on the ski.
  5. That's very funny and I'd laugh if it were done to me but pay back would come, and the prankster would find himself regretting his decision.
  6. @beans, sorry for the delay in pics on the nightmares, I had some rather pressing school work come up and had to alter my priorities. Expect them to be on the post this weekend and I will name drop you again when they are up.
  7. What I have found as a 35 off skier is that it is possible to have the ski slightly in front of you and still have all of your weight on your front foot which eliminates the nasty turns where you feel like you get jammed onto the front as you hook up. I personally accomplished this through a combination of trying to push the ski in front of myself with my front foot and resting slightly behind the front foot but with all the pressure on my front foot and by stressing the posture/position on the ski that Marcus Brown stresses in his first and second shop talk videos. I found I could achieve this body position by focusing on getting into the position and then actively flexing my core to hold it as I pull out and in for the gate and then my body tends to replicate that pulling position through the course.
  8. Is "a PB" an acceptable answer to "what do you want out of your next ski?
  9. I'm a fairly solid individual and I flat out do not float in the pull over vests so I trick in just my rash guard because if I were to use my slalom vest which is buoyant enough to keep my head out of the water without interfering with my skiing I would and have had a very difficult time with handle passes and the wrap back position. I don't see the reason for not using a pull over vest if it keeps you on top of the water but since my head would be under with or without it I'm not going to spend $80 for a vest I'd only use for trick.
  10. @6balls, I think we might need to try this at CR 2014. That could be highly amusing and depending on how my season goes I might even be able to give some of you guys a run for your money when you're playing at my speed. Of course when I play in your arena I'm pretty sure you and the big man will leave me pretty far back in the dust.
  11. I don't know if Zbox is exactly the same as ZO because while I've skied the same scores behind both of them I've never skied the different systems in back to back sets on the same lake. What I can say is that there is a definite benefit to practicing how you compete and Zbox is way closer to ZO than original stargazer or PP classic so I would make the switch so long as your ski buddy is willing to ski it.
  12. I think 36 15 is great, it's a pass where you have to be technically very precise because you have so much time before the buoy abd through the wakes that if you rush something you're not going to miss the pass but it will become work. If you do it right you just feel slow, easy, and early. Can't say I don't like my 28s & 32s more but there is nothing wrong with the red or orange.
  13. I know how but I fall a lot which hurts so I don't do it much and because I don't do it much I fall a lot and I think we all see how this circle keeps going around.
  14. @mattp, trust me, the only person on our team who should be using skis that long has his own. They were a very poor purchase made by a former team president and have seen a collegiate jump two or three times since we've had them because of that. There are only two of us doing anything beyond a ride over and we both have our own skis. @beans, we are got these from a couple of guys down in florida and because no one on our team other than the guy who has his own 90" jumpers should be using skis that long they have only seen the collegiate ramp two or three times. I think in this case pictures will speak better than words so I'll get some pics and message them to you tomorrow or Wednesday.
  15. I don't know but the Iowa waterski team has a pair of 90" D3 nightmares that we'd be willing to part with for around $850
  16. As a Hawkeye I'm a little partial to the Black and Gold but the red and black just looks real sleek. I do agree with @Chuck_Dickey that it would look better wrapped around a new prostar.
  17. @Horton, that is unbelievably tempting but as a college kid I'm not sure a new stick is in the cards since I've only been on the Razor 2 for a season and a half.
  18. As if I didn't want to demo one of those badly enough as is. Now you have to go and tell me it skis nice and show me pictures too?
  19. Sweet boat, seeing it makes it even harder to be winterizing out team boats up here in Iowa.
  20. @skibug, I like the hawkeye colors. For looks combinations of blacks reds and greys look really cool For upkeep black is a pain because scratches show so easily
  21. @Texas6, being from Minnesota I have no sympathy for a skier whose coldest ski day has a water temp of 70. That's just unfair to hear knowing that around April 16th I'll be jumping in to the water at school in Iowa City and it will likely be around 45 degrees both in the water and in the boat.
  22. I have been using the 13" for a long time and I can name quite a few times both in tournament and practice where I caught the handle with my little finger and ring finger only and on a 12" I would have missed it entirely. If I can get two fingers on the handle I can get to the next buoy no problem (the release I a little disconcerting but I can turn the ski fine) and then the buoy after that I get a chance to fix the problem again but if I miss the handle entirely I'm likely not getting very far after that.
  23. Beautiful site, skied quite a few tournaments there both collegiate and non-collegiate.
  24. I was bad crash free for 3 or 4 years until last year where I've had one pretty good one per season last year and this year.
  25. @erik4c, I've only been a tricker since I got to college but at 5'8 5'9 and 185lbs I found that learning was easy on a pair of Obrien combo trick skis and once I was down to 1 I got a 44" D3 with rubber edges. @balsamcutter, I don't really know much about ski sizing other than what I was told to get so I can't be much help other than starting on combos is good since the no fin aspect is challenging for balance even for a long time slalom skier.
