  1. @klindy, thanks for clarifying that. I don't have much to say then other than when possible I like the idea of having video of record breaking runs but if it isn't required I don't know the details of the rules well enough to say why or why not regional records should be able to be set in class C tournaments.
  2. I think that while the possibility isn't big that there is a chance that on a questionable gate the skier gets the score in a class C because they can't review it which is unfair to the skier who set the record with the same gate in a record capable tournament but due to video review got his gate pulled. I don't think it happens very often but I think there needs to be a way of verifying and checking a potential record breaking score and typically that doesn't exist at a class C.
  3. When I'm around other college skiers I can complain about a sprained back that made the last month or so hard to ski, when I log on here I quickly realize it could be so much worse. Can I just stay in my twenties forever and keep my mostly pain free body?
  4. I've gone from B2 to M1 behind that boat and have skied everything from 26mph 15 off to 36mph 32 off and it has skied well everywhere along the way. Great boat.
  5. @ntx, I believe you are correct. Not sure how I got those confused.
  6. When you drop speed from M3 to M4 the total buoys scored at any given rope length decreases by 6 because you no longer get credit for the long line 36mph pass so if you were going to give points to a skier for skiing faster than his speed I think +6 would make sense due to getting credit for 6 additional buoys. That being said, when you ski faster than division speed you are making the choice to disadvantage yourself and I'm not sure you should get a bonus by doing that personally.
  7. I think the idea has it's merits but I'm not sure it would be used except by skiers who just entered B2, G2 or B3, G3 where the speed has just gone up but they may not be comfortable at it yet and ski at a slower speed to try and compete that way. I think that poses a potential problem in that a skier just into the next age group up remaining 1 speed below their competition my be unfair since running the same line length only creates a 6 buoy difference. I'm not saying 34 over 36 or 32 over 34 makes it so much easier that you can outscore someone a speed ahead of you by a full pass but if it happened I think that person would feel cheated since they did what they were supposed to due and moved into the next speed bracket and in return got beat out by someone who didn't want to ski full speed. Long story short I think in the one speed down from max situation there are some problems that could occur unless the slower speed has an additional penalty to further distance a skier going below max speed from the skiers who are skiing the max speed of their age group.
  8. I have a rather thick rash guard that I wear up until dry suit season but I'm young, to stay warm to begin with, and growing up in Minnesota I'm too stubborn to admit it is cold until I'm risking hypothermia every time I get in the water.
  9. I don't think the sport is too easy but I would draw attention to the customization now available in boat pull now that we've gone from PP Classic where we all got effectively the same pull to ZO+ where there are 9 different boat pull options which potentially makes the sport easier since skiers can tailor the boat path to their ski style ways they couldn't before. Personally I'm not sure we shouldn't have stopped with the simple ABC instead of expanding it to ABC 123 and + but that is a topic for a different thread.
  10. No mystery why the used boat market is so good. Still can't wait to ski behind one though.
  11. I think if you are a good skier and you are doing the other things correctly you can compensate for any problems that may arise from goofy hands. However I would put money that there is a good reason most pros ski with their hands the right way.
  12. 2005 Master Craft 197 with Z Box when I'm at home. 2009 Master Craft 197 with Zero Off when I'm skiing with the team at school (University of Iowa, Go Hawks).
  13. @Texas6, that was me benching 425 in the video in the off season accountability thread and my new best is 435 and I think I can do more. Back on topic, I wouldn't be at all surprised if my next ski is a Razor 3. I don't plan on switching any time soon because I just got on my Razor 2 last august and first day I PB'd by 3.5 buoys and I'm still skiing really well on it.
  14. I ski a 68A R2 and my first time on it I skied a 4 buoy PB. The ski is still pretty new so I'm not switching but it will be interesting to hear the reviews for the R3 when they start coming in.
  15. The gates are a challenging aspect of learning the course and learning a new pass. That said I think the rule is fine the way it is now. Giving new and tenured but not pro skiers wiggle room is just holding us back after a small initial gain and the pros have been at it long enough that while missing the gate at 41 off can't be any fun at all I think they should play by the same rules as the rest of us.
  16. I ski primarily on a public lake so I'm no stranger to boat wake and chop but I've found that for most wind chop the key is body position so you can get the necessary width and handle control at the buoy so you keep a tight line and don't let the wind push you around as much. Personally I like how my Razor handles less than ideal water but I haven't ridden enough skis to know if it handles it better or worse than other skis.
  17. When I'm skiing I find that being higher on the boat and wider frees me from the boat and allows me to set more angle with less load than if I'm narrower and that this holds true for all the lengths I ski (15-32). I ski at 36 but more angle and less load are just as useful at 34 I would assume. Taking that personal observation into account I would say that some extra line to get me to buoy width would be easier than narrowing the buoys because I would probably ski to the same width I do already because that width seems to set me up for better turns and easier pulls.
  18. Something may need to be put in place to make it easier to determine if a gate was made or not but I think the rules about what counts as a made or missed gate and the geometry of the course should stay the same. We all have nightmares about being "that guy who got his gate pulled" but going through the gates is (in my opinion) an important part of the sport.
  19. I'm self taught but not by choice. No one in my family tricks so aside from some tips I pick up at tournaments I've been slowly working my score up by myself.
  20. I'm definitely not upping a PB by 12 buoys because 0.5 @ 39 sounds a little exaggerated but I think getting past the 1 ball at 38 isn't unreasonable and getting a piece of the 2 ball would up my PB by 7. I was on the verge of something last fall when I got onto my Razor so I'm looking forward to what I can do with a full season on it.
  21. They came off of ski-it-again, since anyone buying used skis wants a history I talked to the team member who bought them. They were Freddy's back up pair for a season, then they were with the Mommers for a season, and then they spent a season with us, I should have pictures up tomorrow so you can see what they look like.
  22. It's true, the only people on the team who are good enough to control/gain anything from jumpers that long have their own, I don't think they've hit the collegiate ramp more than 10 times. That said, I understand the skepticism which is why I'm trying to get pictures up as soon as I can.
  23. The University of Iowa is asking $1000 for a pair of lightly used 90" D3 nightmares. I should have some pictures of them up in the next couple of days but if you have any questions before then you can comment or email me at mjr660683@gmail.com.
  24. last Thursday through this most recent Wednesday it was in the 70s and 80 here in Iowa city but then Iowa City remembered it was Iowa City and on Thursday we experienced a 40 degree swing in the temps and it's been raining ever since and isn't supposed to stop until Sunday. Temps won't be back up but take a guess where I'll be when the rain quits and the sun comes out.
  25. I got my first sets down in Florida over spring break which was around March 17th and the next set I got was April 27 due to the weather staying to cold to de-winterize the boat. Usually I've been using the home site for 2 or 3 weeks by this time. It's been a much colder winter than last year.
