  1. I just turned 50, my son is 8 and is just starting to enjoy skiing (has always loved the water). I'm 5'10" and 165. I am working my self back into some type of shape with bicycling and now skiing. In the 90s, my first ski was a HO VTX. Skied it every so often, but mostly wakeboarded. I then had typical knee issues associated with WB. After knee surgery from wakeboarding, I found slalom and the course to be quite entertaining. I purchased a few skis in the mid 2000s, Connelly Concept and F1, HO system 8 and Monza. I did not like anything about the Connelly skis. The System 8 and Monza seemed to "twitchy" for me. I purchased a HO Nitro and it "fit" perfect. I've had that ski since it came out. I have gone to a few lessons and usually can run 15' off at 28 and sometimes 30 mph. For the past 5 years, my job and schedule had limited my consistent skiing. This year seems to be more settled and I am hoping for 3 days/week min on the water. I live on a small lake (but everyone has sea walls). There is a public course fairly close that I can trailer to and I have a EZ slalom (that is missing buoys and I have never attempted to put out). I am looking for a new ski as technology surely will have something better. It seems that the HO Omni (Carbon) would be a good fit for me. Since I have liked a few HO skis, I figured I would start there. I'm not really brand loyal. I have evenly considered the Radar Senate. Are there any "better" skis for a someone in my position, limited talent, and lake access. While cost isn't a huge issue, staying at (or under) $500 makes the most sense to me. I am not interested in $1000 skis. Thanks for any input.
  2. I got the new rope, handle, and guard. My wife is happy, my son likes it (even though he doesn't understand what it is really for), and it does not interfere in my skiing. I did notice that the handle will "fly" a little now when I release it. Thanks for the input.
  3. Ordered one from Miami Nautiques with a new rope and handle. Thanks for the inputs and links. I don't have any extra time to figure out how to make one, it's easier just to buy. Plus the economy needs my money right now.
  4. I know that some people in the past posted up about handles or nets for handles to prevent injuries. I did a search here, on Overtons, Perfski and can't find any info. Can someone post a link to where I could purchase a safety net or safety handle for skiing? Thanks.
  5. https://www.edmunds.com/car-care/top-7-urban-legends-about-motor-oil.html Use the oil spec recommended in the manual. There are some inputs on here that are incorrect. Internally, there is no difference in the car/truck and boat engine (i.e. bearing and ring gaps). Only Honda uses a "break in" oil, and it has added lubes, not the old non detergent oils of the 70's. Most new engines come with synthetic or synthetic blend oils as new. Lastly, if you are on this site, you probably over maintain your boat anyway.
  6. I'm "normal" in most watersports, LFF for wake sports. I write and eat left handed and do all sports right handed. I ski RFF. However, when I think about skiing, I think LFF.
  7. Roger Teeter had a son named Jason. He flew with me in the Navy. Had him out on my boat and after seeing him ski, he told me about his dad and their relationship to EP skis. Small world.
  8. Got out for the first time this year yesterday too. Our lake was flooded and dam destroyed in 2014. Through a long process, all work was complete and the dam was closed on 1 Apr. Full enough to ski yesterday. Looking forward to a full year on the water.
  9. Anyone know if these run small or large for the size? Or, how much do they shrink? I'm always between and M and L. Some Med shrink and are too small. Some Larges don't shrink and are too big. Thanks.
  10. Use of your blower helps reduce explosive gasses. Regardless of the safeguards on your marinized engine parts, the blower is the key to getting rid of those gasses.
  11. I live in Pensacola. When are you coming. I have a ps205 in the garage.
  12. Thanks ToddF, that was my point exactly. Is there an * next to a record with ZO vs PP vs Hand driving? IMO, that is a huge difference in a run. Requirements for boats have changed, but no one really is bothered by that. Nothing wrong with seeing the inadequacies of the rules and then changing them for an improvement.
