This was the 25th time this event was held at Shortline Lake; the first was in 1989.  Shortline Lake will be the site for the 2015 Disabled Water Ski World Championships. The Centurion Carbon Pro was the official boat used for the clinic and regional championships. The skier’s clinic took place on Friday where many people took to the water for the first time. 2013 USA Disabled Team Coach; Matt Oberholtz, was in the boat all day coaching the first timers as well as returning veterans; some who were members of the USA Team that won the gold at the 2013 Worlds in Italy. Team USA has won gold at worlds the last 3 years in a row and they became the first country to ever 3-peat.

The Regional Tournament was on Saturday and they started off with the Novice Division. Skiers who just learned on Friday and some returning skiers had the opportunity to compete in this Classs F portion of the tournament. They were scored based on how many times they crossed the wakes in an allotted time. It was an intense battle for first and second with only 1 wake crossing separating them. The new comer Clara Valdes edged out Beth Jones for the title in the Novice division. Top 3: Clara Valdes, Beth Jones and Ysa Ison.

It was now time for the Class C portion. Over the last few years, I have been coaching, Connor Aguilar-Poggetto, a 16 year old up and comer is the sport who was the youngest member on the 2013 USA Team. I was looking forward to seeing Connor ski since he has been putting in a lot of time on the water this year not only for 3 event water skiing but in wakeboarding as well. On a side note, Connor took 1st place earlier this year in the Inagural Adaptive Division at the Wake Games in Orlando, Florida. Connor ran a personal best the first round running 1@23mph and in the second round he increased his pb to 3@23mph. Connor was excited to stand up his 2nd round trick run which gave him the overall title.

http://briandetrick.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/IMG_16847661721410-168x300.jpegWorld Champion and World Record holder Jessica Radmilovic also ran a personal best in the first round of 4@23mph. This would have been a pending world record if it was a record tournament. I wish it was a record because I was her driver and it would have been sweet to have driven a World Record. Both Connor and Jess stepped up in this big event and took the Carbon Pro Personal Best Challenge by running their personal best behind the Centurion Carbon Pro. Scott Leason; a visually impaired skier, ran 4.5 @ 32mph both rounds. Scott has only been skiing for a few years and continues to improve despite being an older gentleman. He is determined to run maximum speed at this year’s Nationals in Atlanta, Georgia.
It is not every day that you get these three men on the same dock or  in the same room anymore, so it was an honor to have all of them at the event. Pictured from left to right are: Steve Hornsey, Matt Oberholtz and Royce Andes. Steve and Matt have been the backbone of disabled water skiing on the west coast and were the top skiers in the world in the 90’s and early 2000’s. Royce is a legend in the sport as he brought disabled water skiing to the USA and he invented the cage that the skiers sit in as well as the Kan ski. He is the pioneer for USA Disabled Water Skiing.

This was another great event and I was glad I was able to help drive, judge and coach again this year. There is always a great group of people who participate and help out with these events and I am looking forward to having the World Championships here next year!

Merced, CA JUNE 24, 2014; Centurion Boats is the first watersports towboat manufacturer to offer 2015 models with a new Eco-Conscious filtration system designed to prevent the conveyance of invasive species. The system, which has been in development for several years, is called Mussel Mast’R and is designed to filter larvae and other villagers that have been commonly transferred in the ballast bags of watersports towboats.
Invasive species is a problem more common to the upper Midwest and western states where proliferating Zebra and Quagga mussels are the leading cause for concern. The mussels are infiltrating power plants and irrigation pipes restricting water flow. It’s up to manufacturers like Centurion to conserve and protect our waterways.

In 2009, the WaterSports Industry Association (WSIA) organized a movement to find a solution to the problem of transferring invasive species. Wake WorX, a company established solely for the purpose of eradicating the invasive species problem in towboats, designed a new system.
The filtration device, called “Mussel Mast’R” was thoroughly tested and presented to the authorities that govern the inspection stations. In late 2013, the authorities approved “Mussel Mast’R” as a way for boaters to potentially avoid decontamination stations and ballast bag cleansing. The system uses a highly effective filter to catch invaders before they enter ballast bags and as long as the seal hasn’t been broken since the last inspection, the boat will be processed through without the lengthy decontamination process.
While the Mussel Mast’R system has been available to all towboat manufacturers since early 2014, Centurion is the first to announce that Mussel Mast’R will be an option for 2015 model year boats. Todd Gaughan, Vice President of Marketing for Centurion said, “Our factory is just hours from Lake Tahoe, so we’re keenly aware of the invasive species problem and the harm that it has caused our owners and waterways. Centurion is an Eco-Conscious manufacturer. That’s why we focused on getting this system into production as quickly as possible. It has been a real pleasure working with the team at Mussel Mast’R. We’re very excited to be leading the industry in eco-friendly, saving our waterways direction.”

Merced, CA JUNE 18, 2014; As of March 2014, Centurion Boats posted a 61% increase in sales according to Statistical Surveys Inc., the most reliable source for tracking new boat sales in the United States. In the first quarter, Centurion posted the highest percent increase among all towboat brands and a full 6% ahead of the next closest competitor.
Bryan Holland, Vice President of Worldwide Sales said, " we are very pleased with our sales team efforts but the innovations in product have made it easier than ever to get new boats placed. cats and ramfill systems consumers dealers alike clamoring for more information about centurion. a real testament high-quality production significant centurion is offering now.>
As the economy recovers and the people everywhere are beginning to see their personal wealth increase, Centurion, traditionally a smaller market-share holder, is poised for big growth. Bryan Holland went on to say, "We have been opening new dealerships everywhere. It seems like high value dealers are starting to figure out that the towboat business is a good business. Also, this model year we were the first to offer a five-year warranty, something that only one other boat builder is currently doing. This has helped us close a lot deals because it shows the customer that Centurion is ready to back the boat 100% allowing the purchaser peace of mind they've never had before."
In the 2014 model year, Centurion reintroduced two impressive innovations. The first was called CATS for Centurion Articulating Tracking System. The CATS system allows the operator to deflect the bow slightly changing the position of the hull for precise displacement providing adjustability and wake shaping. For the first time in wakeboarding towboat history, wakes can be cleaned up instantly without moving people, gear or ballast. For wake surfing, complete control of the face of the wave, direction of power and overall wave shaping is now possible. The second innovation is RAMFILL technology boasting the largest capacity ballast in the industry and the quickest filling system without pumps or sacs. This technology leaves more time for watersports and less time for fidgeting with one's boat. RAMFILL has been raved about all over the world. Corey Marotta, Vice President of Sales & Marketing of Alliance Multimedia said "RAMFILL is the most efficient way to put a massive amount of water in the quickest time frame to date."

“It’s kinda crazy that in today’s day and age, in which nearly everyone has access to computer design programs and carries an 8-megapixel camera in our pockets, that we are still expected to have the same looking ski,” said Dave Goode, founder and president of GOODE Skis. “Not all skiers are the same, so why should we all have to ski on the same skis? We think people should be able to express themselves through their skis and we can’t wait to see all the creative designs people come up with.”
