Baller GaryWilkinson Posted August 29, 2012 Baller Share Posted August 29, 2012 We are lucky to have 2 slalom courses at our lake but one is about 3 miles away. Was is the most economical speed to use in getting there besides full out because it's finally calm before the wake surfers come out! Anyone,...? Anyone?........ Baller jipster43 Posted August 29, 2012 Baller Share Posted August 29, 2012 Because time and water are two of my most precious resources, I'd say haul arse!
Baller A_B Posted August 29, 2012 Baller Share Posted August 29, 2012 In theory, after reading many boat tests in Boating Magazine, it would be slightly faster than at plane, so I would say around 24 mph. This would take about 8 minutes to get there. But, if I am skiing first, I'm with Jipster, go like a bat out of hell to get a good first set! Baller Ham_Wallace Posted August 29, 2012 Baller Share Posted August 29, 2012 Under 34mph.
Baller Deke Posted August 29, 2012 Baller Share Posted August 29, 2012 I think just less than 3000 rpm should do it.
E_T
@garywilkinson what motor do you have?
Baller GaryWilkinson Posted August 29, 2012 Author Baller Share Posted August 29, 2012 I have a normally aspirated 260 hp holly carb non fuel injection 1995 PCM nautilus in mint (showroom) shape.
Baller jlittle Posted August 29, 2012 Baller Share Posted August 29, 2012 As fast as you can go without dumping fuel through the secondaries. Probably close to what @Deke said.
Baller GaryWilkinson Posted August 29, 2012 Author Baller Share Posted August 29, 2012 Thanks will try it. That, I believe is about 30 mph so I've been using 214 mph so this will get me there quicker! Added bonus to snag the 1st set!
Baller jlittle Posted August 29, 2012 Baller Share Posted August 29, 2012 30 mph will not get you there quicker than 214 mph :)
FrankS
well the MOST economic way to get there is riding is someone else's boat
Baller GaryWilkinson Posted August 30, 2012 Author Baller Share Posted August 30, 2012 Oops 21 mph! Phat phingers on an iPad.
Baller A_B Posted August 30, 2012 Baller Share Posted August 30, 2012 I did a quick search and found a boat test on a bigger Tigue. It says 3,000 rpm is the most fuel efficient speed. Have to assume your inboard is similar. Have to get the hull on top and just keep secondaries out. http://www.boatingmag.com/2012%20boat%20buyers%20guide/tigé-z3
Baller eleeski Posted August 30, 2012 Baller Share Posted August 30, 2012 Trick over to the other course! Very efficient as tricking is fun and builds skills that transfer to slalom. Eric
Baller SkiJay Posted August 30, 2012 Baller Share Posted August 30, 2012 I've done a fair amount of long distance cruising each summer on Shuswap Lake, and in my last three CC 196s, the sweat spot has always ended up being between 27 and 30 mph (I haven't been out of a course with the 200). For what it's worth, if you are doing long distances, your engine will appreciate it if you vary your rpm even slightly every 10 to 15 minutes.
