musicm1992 Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 I currently moved back to SoCal and am without a place to ski. I was skiing at Canyon Lake for a while, but it's a deep lake and I am used to primarily skiing tournament lakes. So skiing at Canyon made it hard to progress much at all. I ski at the Trimble's place in Galt, but it's a far drive to make every weekend and it sucks to only be able to ski once or twice every two weeks. Basically i'm looking for somewhere to ski around late afternoon (when I can leave work) during the week, or whenever during the weekend. I'm open to anywhere, Just driving 400 miles to ski is a bit of a jaunt. I live in Orange County. I currently ski 15' off at 28MPH. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
Baller rodltg2 Posted September 19, 2012 Baller Posted September 19, 2012 I'm kind of confused on not being to progress on a deep lake, but here is a place for you to buy! http://www.ski-it-again.com/php/skiitagain.php?topic=Search&category=Real_Estate&postid=20572
Baller PBD Posted September 19, 2012 Baller Posted September 19, 2012 You're probably 2 hours (or 120 or so miles) each way away from the courses in Bakersfield or Barstow so that cuts the drive in half.
Baller Steven_Haines Posted September 20, 2012 Baller Posted September 20, 2012 There's the Quarry in Corona. Not sure if you can get in there tho
musicm1992 Posted September 20, 2012 Author Posted September 20, 2012 >PBD I've heard there are a bunch of places in both. Do you know any in perticular that you could steer me to? 120 miles is super doable. Anything under 180 really. Just 400 is a jaunt lol
Baller Steven_Haines Posted September 20, 2012 Baller Posted September 20, 2012 musicm1992, Who did you ski with at Canyon?
Baller eleeski Posted September 21, 2012 Baller Posted September 21, 2012 We also ski in the low desert (Palm Springs, Mecca). Eric
Baller PBD Posted September 21, 2012 Baller Posted September 21, 2012 I know that Gail Heinrich (sp?) at Ironwood Ranch does a number of memberships that give you access to 2 lakes. The water is a bit funky but from my perspective its the best value in the area. see @rico 's post for their facebook page. I'm not sure if the other lakes offer memberships. I believe you need to own a lot for most of the other sites, but I could be wrong. If you're headed toward Barstow, Great Lakes used to have memberships that didn't require owning a lot. http://www.skithegreat.com/
SocalWaterSki Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 I too am looking for spots to ski. I'm back in Socal after a brief stint in Alaska. A couple options for you.... I have a 99 Nautique that I take out to Elsinore, Perris, or wherever else I can manage to find flat water. Granted it's hard to find a course, but I'm always looking for a third. Option 2.... Waterski Wednesdays... I throw my 1974 Avenger in Marine Stadium and rip up the mornings with passes. Water is super flat, no people, lots of good turns.... granted it's salty and no buoys, but it's still fun. I would love to find a group of people to ski with out at a private lake, it'd be nice to turn buoys again....
Baller Brady Posted October 7, 2012 Baller Posted October 7, 2012 I am down in LA County 3 times per month. If any of you want a third that likes to chip in for costs, let me know and I am there.

musicm1992 Posted June 18, 2014 Author Posted June 18, 2014 So to update, I'm looking for a place within 200miles of OC/LA to ski on the weekends. Fresh water is preferred as I've heard salt water can really eat away bits of the ski. I had actually taken some time off from the sport but just recently jumped back on the bandwagon, and looking to get as much time on the water as I can.
Administrators Horton Posted June 18, 2014 Administrators Posted June 18, 2014 @musicm1992 did you look into wet set ski club? Baller Wolfeie Posted June 18, 2014 Baller Posted June 18, 2014 Try and find a baller coin (coins) on ebay and take them up to Horton's lake in Bako.
Administrators Horton Posted June 18, 2014 Administrators Posted June 18, 2014 Ironwood in Bako is another option. musicm1992 Posted June 19, 2014 Author Posted June 19, 2014 @Horton I did hit up wet set ski club and I really liked skiing with them, though it seems that they only meet about once a month and I was looking for something more frequent. It's hard to get ski legs back with skiing once a month. Do you know of any skiing out in the newberry springs/bako area? I would be happy to pay for some coaching as well if you knew of any in the same areas.
musicm1992 Posted June 19, 2014 Author Posted June 19, 2014 @wolfeie what do you mean by "baller coins"?
Administrators Horton Posted June 19, 2014 Administrators Posted June 19, 2014 @musicm1992 ignore @Wolfeie He is upset because he has to seen me run so many 38s this year. BallerCoins is an idea i had for friends to keep track of who is skiing behind whose boat. I ski with Todd and give him a BallerCoin => he skis with me he gives it back. It is easier than bringing each other gas cans. Some people like the idea some make fun of it. I give up. Baller Smokey56 Posted July 18, 2014 Baller Posted July 18, 2014 I have a BallerCoin and would like to redeem it anywhere in Socal soon. Any takers?
Administrators Horton Posted July 18, 2014 Administrators Posted July 18, 2014 If you make it to Bako with BallerCoin in hand come by HQ Connelly ★ Goode ★ HO Syndicate ★ KD Skis ★ MasterCraft ★ PerfSki Radar ★ Reflex ★ S Lines ★ Stokes ★ Baller Video Coaching System ★ Wake Lending Become a Supporting Member or make a One-time Donation
