What causes skis to break down

The car as a solar autoclave, hmm.

While your ski got hot in the car, it was an even slow heating. While hot, it was probably within the temperature range of the plastic. As long as the ice chest wasn't on top of the ski you should be OK.

A hot top with a cool bottom causes huge stress in the ski. Direct sun is really bad.

Depends how much internal volume you needed in the autoclave I would suppose. Skis would be pretty easy to accommodate.

In its most basic form any chamber capable of reaching the heat and pressure you desire is sufficient. If you pull a vacuum you create ~14 psi at optimum, if you go instead a rated chamber that can go 10,000 psi you can consolidate the fiber.

You ideally want just as little resin in your fiber as possible so long as every crossing fiber has resin between it at the next resin, then the surplus is weight with out additional benefit.

But it may be that the reduction in weight wouldn't justify the increase in costs, lots of ambient temperature prepreg on the market too.
