Onic Palandjian
In the YouTube video he seems to break the world slalom record. Could this really be a breakthrough in water-ski technology?

Administrators Horton Posted August 26, 2014 Administrators Share Posted August 26, 2014 Early reviews are positive.I expect the new Mapple will be popular. Everything else is speculation. I do not get excited about any new ski until it has been out a while. Supporting Member Than_Bogan Posted August 26, 2014 Supporting Member Share Posted August 26, 2014 If you're talking about Mapple @ -43, that's at 34 mph, so not related to the World Record. (Not saying I can do it...) Still may be a completely awesome ski. I'm looking forward to hearing and seeing more!
Patmaster
Judging by the pros and the Big Dawgs riding it, most improved their average scores. I talked to a few of them and they are all loving the new skis. Now, improving my score for 3-4 buoyes certainly captures my attention. Knowing Andy as a serious athlete and a no-BS guy, I can't wait to try it out.
ToddF
A real test of any new revolutionary ski, would be to give it to 3 or 4 skiers through a random process and document their response as well as the increase or decrease in buoy count. This would be a great marketing tool if the ski really increased the buoys. Find some people stuck at the end of a pass and give it to them for two or three weeks. I would be willing to be one of the test mules.
Administrators Horton Posted August 26, 2014 Administrators Share Posted August 26, 2014 It is not that hard. Wait one year. If there are a lot of them cheap on ski it again it is a fail. If you see them at tournaments and not on ski it again it is a success. Baller_ The_MS Posted August 26, 2014 Baller_ Share Posted August 26, 2014 @Horton is correct, SIA is the best gauge.
Craig Aitken
Whats a current example of a ski fail listed on SIA?
Baller Razorskier1 Posted August 26, 2014 Baller Share Posted August 26, 2014 I will ride one mid-September along with two other ballers. All three of us are riding different skis now and ski different styles. Should be interesting.
ToddF
@Horton @ms I agree with both of you about SIA, but my point was to get in on trying a new ski for free and reporting the results. Remember "Geraldo opening the safe" sure would create a buzz. Maybe that reference was to obscure
Baller ForrestGump Posted August 27, 2014 Baller Share Posted August 27, 2014 Yeah, You're not going to get in on a Mapple for free. That's not his marketing model.

Baller Stevie Boy Posted August 27, 2014 Baller Share Posted August 27, 2014 I think when trying a ski, you need to ski on your lake with your driver, your boat, etc, a lot of people demo a ski and seem to have a great couple of sets, when you get it home sometimes it doesn't quite ski the same ??????? Baller ski6jones Posted August 27, 2014 Baller Share Posted August 27, 2014 I usually experience that decline in performance right after I pay for the ski.
Baller Razorskier1 Posted August 27, 2014 Baller Share Posted August 27, 2014 I was thinking about this after I skied this morning. I'm not sure how a ski can be better than my 6.0! Without a doubt the best stick I've been on. I am really excited to try the new one!
Baller 6balls Posted August 27, 2014 Baller Share Posted August 27, 2014 @razorskier1 best skiing you've done...but don't give all the credit to the ski! Looking forward to the "T" report.
Baller Ilivetoski Posted August 28, 2014 Baller Share Posted August 28, 2014 You could tell by how comfortable he was at 4 ball that he has gotten that deep before... My guess would be that he has done that at 36, would not be surprised if he has run it in practice

Baller Razorskier1 Posted August 28, 2014 Baller Share Posted August 28, 2014 @mike_mapple -- that's great news! Hopefully that means I'll run -39 when I visit in a couple of weeks :-). I can't wait for Andy to set up a new ski and let me give it a whirl -- my 6.0 is amazing already!
Baller thager Posted August 29, 2014 Baller Share Posted August 29, 2014 Now, how about a releasable binding that fits in the recessed area of the ski?? Hmmmm?
Baller GAJ0004 Posted August 29, 2014 Baller Share Posted August 29, 2014 Andy's ski designs always worked well for me. I have been on a D3 for the last 6 years, but before that I had a 2000 O'Brien Mapple Signature Model slalom which was still my favorite ski. I was going to try the O'Brien Elite at the time, but it was not ready, and my ski was falling apart after 8 seasons. The D3 Nomad RCX was the best fit for me at the time. When I am in the market for a new ski I will be trying out the Mapple brand..
