OK I'm going to get a modern ski....but what bindings fit

I think I found a radar senate blank (2014) for a decent price. Do I have to stick with radar bindings or are most brands interchangeable?

@SailorDave17 most bindings have a standard hole pattern that allows them to attach to most skis... For a releasable binding check out OB4Systems.com

I mainly free ski, but always am always trying to practice while I am skiing. I have a senate with vector bindings and it seems fine.

While all of the ski companies have standardized their hole pattern for the front bindings, the same isn't true for the hole pattern for the rear binding.

Basically, since you have a Radar ski, as far as the rear binding is concerned you want to look at Radar, HO or Obrien. A rear binding from Connelly or D3 will not fit on your Radar ski.

 

As a side note, a rear plate from Radar is compatible with both the D3/Connelly and the HO/Radar/Obrien hole pattern.

I truly believe that a properly set up OB4 system is the safest commercially-available option. It's the only system that can eject each foot in every possible direction/rotation. But you do have to "pay attention" -- both to set it up correctly and to make sure it continues to function optimally (for example, WD40 on the pins every other set or so per the directions). If that sounds OK with you, and cost isn't a big factor, then stop reading and go buy a set!

 

Another option that is pretty safe, but some would regard as slightly lower performance, is the Wiley rubber binding. Completely different style, but achieves a sort of "passive safety" by being very soft and therefore easy to eject from in most directions.

Radar Vector is also a great choice for that ski.

Very comfortable compared to rubber and release safely (according to my experiences)

Cover a broader range of feet sizes if some else also will use the ski.
