Testing the water

Find an independent lab - there are lots in socal. Coloform is the most important test, this is what gives you diarrhea. But an old dump site might have other chemical contamination. A local lab might have insight on what to test for. Your nose will be a valuable tool if you can smell something.

Testing is a good idea - especially if you pass. If there are issues, do address them. Be proactive. Sometimes it's OK to personally ski if the water isn't perfect - just be aware. Standards have gotten stricter since some of us learned to ski in the sewage treatment discharge.
