Tdub
I am sure this has been discussed over and over. I just need the latest info. I have a 2004 SN Limited. What is the proper Trans fluid to use? The engine is the Excaliber. Cheers. Tom

Baller oldjeep Posted June 27, 2018 Baller Share Posted June 27, 2018 Dextron 3/ Mercon Most commonly called dex/merc in the auto parts store since the dextron 3 name is not licenced any more.
Baller dbutcher Posted June 28, 2018 Baller Share Posted June 28, 2018 It seems like there should be, but there's no T in Dexron.
Baller Ed_Johnson Posted June 28, 2018 Baller Share Posted June 28, 2018 What about a good pump for the Trans, mine died the last time I changed it.
Baller oldjeep Posted June 28, 2018 Baller Share Posted June 28, 2018 I use one like this for my trans and vdrive so that i can measure the fluid removed. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B015Q1JNBO/ref=pd_aw_sbs_263_3?ie=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B015Q1JNBO&pd_rd_r=1d5c0a21-7a7a-11e8-8fb9-0343366df76c&pd_rd_w=OeUQ4&pd_rd_wg=8l9gu&pf_rd_i=mobile-dp-sims&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=1570221339179026662&pf_rd_r=2A4S81Q78MS06QS02TS4&pf_rd_s=mobile-dp-sims&pf_rd_t=40701&psc=1&refRID=2A4S81Q78MS06QS02TS4&dpPl=1&dpID=71ib1OpMWQL
Baller BraceMaker Posted June 28, 2018 Baller Share Posted June 28, 2018 I like a mityvac large enough to do oil and trans fluids simultaneously.

Baller skihacker Posted June 28, 2018 Baller Share Posted June 28, 2018 Mityvac 7201 holds 8 liters? With a hunk of heater hose I can rig it to the engine drain hose and a warm motor is empty in a minute or so.
Baller BraceMaker Posted June 28, 2018 Baller Share Posted June 28, 2018 Yup hot tip for you though. If you buy a new mity vac get a tube of silicone caulk and cover the end of the pump tube with it. From the factory they use an epoxy and after about a year oil will start seeping into the pump and blowing out around the shaft.
Tdub
One last transmission fluid question. I am very picky when it comes to changing the oil. Every 30 hours. Tranny fluid not so much. Been a couple years. So I ordered the pump @Oldjeep suggested and it works great, but I only got maybe a pint out of the transmission. My manual says 2 Quarts! Excalibur 330. Have I been that bad? Am I not getting the tube down all the way? Dipstick shows nothing. Help please.
Baller oldjeep Posted July 4, 2018 Baller Share Posted July 4, 2018 You will never get it all out, that is why i measure what is removed. You can try tipping nose of trailer up or down to get fluid to pool near fill. On my vdrive you raise nose to get more out not sure on a dd. Baller CBR51 Posted July 4, 2018 Baller Share Posted July 4, 2018 make sure you use a small enough tube on your pump to go all the way down the small hole inside. You should get approx 2 quarts out then.
Baller TEL Posted July 4, 2018 Baller Share Posted July 4, 2018 I use just a cheap hand fluid pump you can get at harbor freight used a rubber stopper in the hose drilled a hole in it to fit a small semi hard hose I think 1/4" you can work it to the bottom get all 2 quarts. I change the oil in the engine first so I can pour the used trans fluid in the quart bottles to make sure I got 2 quarts out. I change it every other year. Cheap and easy

Tdub
I finally added a short piece of copper tubing to the rubber tube that came with the pump that @Oldjeep suggested. I hit bottom of the tranny and extracted 2 quarts. Perfect. Thanks again for the tips.
