Baller DangerBoy Posted August 14, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 14, 2018 Hi, Just joined. This is my first post. I am a intermediate - advanced level recreational skier in my mid-50s. I just free ski fairly aggressively but never go on a course. For the last 10 years or so I've been skiing on an '06 Monza with HO Approach Bindings front and rear. For what I do, the Monza does quite well and my skiing has improved a ton since I got it. This year, my ski buddy got himself a new Radar Senate Alloy ski with Radar Vector bindings on it. I tried it out and liked the bindings quite a bit and noticed they seemed stiffer and more responsive than the Approaches. The only thing I didn't like as much about them was that the Vectors weren't as comfortable underfoot as the Approaches because they don't have right and left specific footbeds like the Approaches do. So what I'd like to do is find a pair of newer bindings to upgrade to at the level of the Radar Vectors or a bit higher with asymmetrical fit. I don't want to spend a ton of money so I'd be happy buying new old stock binding from a previous year or buying used. I don't care what brand they are, just so long as they fit well to a narrow foot/narrow heel and use the old standard mounting system. I've been doing a bit of research and am thinking about a 2016 or so Radar Profile binding as an option. Would that be a good one for my needs? I don't know much about what the other companies models like HO, O'Brien, Connelly, etc. so I'd be interested to look at options there if anyone has suggestions for other company's bindings. Thanks! Baller Chef23 Posted August 15, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 15, 2018 They won’t necessarily be cheap but I think the Radar Vapors would be exactly what you are looking for. Right and left specific boots, very comfortable and good performing. I am not familiar with the profile bindings.
Baller condorpilot Posted August 15, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 15, 2018 I wear Profiles. Purchased because it is wide fit and with more toe box room than the Vapors (which I believe are a much narrower fit.)
Baller DangerBoy Posted August 15, 2018 Author Baller Share Posted August 15, 2018 > I wear Profiles. > Purchased because it is wide fit and with more toe box room than the Vapors (which I believe are a > much narrower fit.) What year of Profiles do you wear? I'm looking at a pair of 2016s that a guy here in Canada has for sale. He says he has a wider foot and they're too narrow for him so that's why he's selling them. He only used them a few times and they're a really good deal. The reason I as about the year is that I believe in 2017 they reduced the thickness of the liner in the Profiles by 2 mm so that would give a bit more room for a wider foot. If I could get a similar deal on a pair of Vapors I would go for them over the Profiles but right now the Vapors are out of my price range... Baller dvskier Posted August 15, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 15, 2018 I’m on Profiles and also have wide feet. They are true to size and very comfortable. Highly recommended.
Baller DangerBoy Posted August 15, 2018 Author Baller Share Posted August 15, 2018 What year? I think I can get a pair of 2016s that have only been used a couple times for $275 CAD (~$209 USD) shipped across the country. Smokin' deal, no?
Baller mbabiash Posted August 15, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 15, 2018 I have a pair of size 11 radar vapor carbitex boots with the boa system in excellent condition. I have a carbon sequence plate that I’ll sell with it that you can micro adjust. I’d take $350 for all of it.
Baller DangerBoy Posted August 15, 2018 Author Baller Share Posted August 15, 2018 That sounds tempting but I need size 10s. :s
Baller mbabiash Posted August 15, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 15, 2018 I wear 10.5 street shoe. When you heat mold they will swell up. My toes are at the end. Just FYI
Baller Zman Posted August 15, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 15, 2018 @DangerBoy If you are an even show size, like a 10, tough call. Some go to Vapor size 11, and some go with a Vapor size 10. If you are a half shoe size, def go up. That is an awesome deal on a great boot, and the single plate with micro-adjust. Retail nearly $800. Baller Zman Posted August 15, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 15, 2018 My new Vapor boots should arrive today. Replacing my Strada boots after almost 6 seasons.
Baller DangerBoy Posted August 15, 2018 Author Baller Share Posted August 15, 2018 I'm a 9.5 in most street shoes, sometimes a 10 but never over 10. Right now, I'm in a Medium Approach boot. I'm pretty sure a 10 would be the right size for me and 11 would be too big.
Baller mbabiash Posted August 15, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 15, 2018 @DangerBoy Yep. A 10 would be good for you.
Baller dvskier Posted August 15, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 15, 2018 @DangerBoy I have one each of 2016 & 2017 Profile boots, I use a Radar HRTP with both set ups. Radar told me if I go to a Vapor boot to go with a size 10. My Profiles are size 9. At my level I don't foresee a need to change boots. Coming from Vectors the Profiles offer more control while still comfortable.
Baller DangerBoy Posted August 15, 2018 Author Baller Share Posted August 15, 2018 @dvskier Have you noticed anything different in the fit between the '16 and '17 Profiles? I believe I saw a video on the Profile saying that for the 2017 model they made the linings about 2 mm thinner than the previous years. That gives you an extra 4 mm laterally. I'm just curious if you found there to be more room in the '17 boot over the '16. I have narrow foot and heel so a '16 Profile should theoretically be a little better for me than anything newer. Obviously, a Vapor would be better for my narrow feet but I can't afford them. I'm waiting to hear if my offer has been accepted on the barely used 2016 Profiles... Keeping my fingers crossed... Baller dvskier Posted August 15, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 15, 2018 @DangerBoy I actually skied in the 2016 Profile boot for a year before purchasing the 2017 Profile. When I first tried on the 2017 if felt more snug but I'd expect that after 100+ sets on the 2016 boot. I found my boots at wKehouse.com, brand new for $145 with free shipping, quick ship as well, received in 3 days.
Baller bigskieridaho Posted August 16, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 16, 2018 I will just add to the mix. I would suggest Vapors also. Love mine. Size up tho and heat the liners. Fit my foot perfectly! Profiles are good but fit more like an open toe IMO.

Baller Zman Posted August 17, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 17, 2018 Ran my first 2 sets yesterday on my new Vapor Carbitex boots. Awesome. Loved my 5 year old Stradas, but these Vapors are sweet. I did heat mold them. Which was quick n easy. The BOA adjustment for the forefoot is great. Solidly connects your foot to the ski. And, quickly releases to easily get your feet in and out. Great lateral support. If you can swing a pair of these. You will love them! Have them on a Radar Sequence plate, and Nano One ski.
