Baller sunperch Posted August 18, 2019 Baller Share Posted August 18, 2019 We are starting to ski fall tournaments and the kids want to see what the COA for Nationals is for the new G4 and B4 divisions. Is the COA date still the Thursday following Nationals? Are the new divisions available for scoring for entry in the fall tournaments?
klindy
Good question ... I’ll dig into it.
Baller MrJones Posted August 18, 2019 Baller Share Posted August 18, 2019 The new G4/B4 is simply the old G3/B3 isn't it?
klindy
Either way the new divisions need to have established scores needed to qualify to Nationals.
Baller Drago Posted August 19, 2019 Baller Share Posted August 19, 2019 It's an option on the pull down menu now. I imagine it will take a day or two to get the right kids in their age groups, and then the math will happen.
Baller Drago Posted August 19, 2019 Baller Share Posted August 19, 2019 Or "a few days" :)
Baller MattP Posted August 19, 2019 Baller Share Posted August 19, 2019 If I am not mistaken usually the ranking system only pulls skiers over when division changes happen once they ski their first tournament in the new division. Unless the powers that be pull them over manually it may be a while before we see a "full" list of the new divisions.
Baller disland Posted August 19, 2019 Baller Share Posted August 19, 2019 How will they handle national records, Does the first kid to get a score break the national record?
Baller Drago Posted August 19, 2019 Baller Share Posted August 19, 2019 @MattP , that was my assumption @disland Probably. They retired records many years ago but I don't recall why or which discipline
Baller MattP Posted August 19, 2019 Baller Share Posted August 19, 2019 @disland usually the ranking committee sets a threshold score that needs to be beat to start the record process. It keeps the dozens of submissions from this past weekend from flooding in. I would assume it will be easy to create using the current B3/G3 data. klindy
@disland @MattP What's supposed to happen is spelled out in 14.02, which says, in part - "Whenever a new age division is created, or a change is made in the age ranges for an existing division, or a change is made in the performance conditions for an event for an age division, a benchmark score shall be established for that event, unless that benchmark would be lower than the existing record. This benchmark shall be the highest score achieved at the previous National Championships in that event by a skier eligible for the affected division." And yes, the goal is to keep the dozens of potential submissions down to a reasonable level.

Baller JeffSurdej Posted August 20, 2019 Baller Share Posted August 20, 2019 on a plane back from worlds, ill explain all ASAP, but moral of story is lots of work going on right now to handle new divisions which is delaying the nationals cutoff qualifications release as well, things are testing out good so far. Baller sunperch Posted August 22, 2019 Author Baller Share Posted August 22, 2019 @JeffSurdej thanks for the update, but it's the rankings list is more messed up now than ever. My daughter who is ski age 17 was in girls 1 ranking list last night, and is in W1 this morning. She should be G4. We are attending tournaments this weekend and scoring is not sure where to put her. Baller jcamp Posted September 3, 2019 Baller Share Posted September 3, 2019 Thanks for bird dogging this @JeffSurdej. Quick question: it looks like the Nationals cut off score is the same for Girls 4 as it is for Girls 3 (56.7). Is that correct?
Baller JeffSurdej Posted September 3, 2019 Baller Share Posted September 3, 2019 @jcamp nope, something seems off with G4S
