Baller keithh2oskier Posted August 22, 2019 Baller Share Posted August 22, 2019 Not sure his age but I think it would have a hard time turning and because of the narrow profile I think it wouldn't be beginner friendly. Take video I guess...
Baller Drago Posted August 22, 2019 Baller Share Posted August 22, 2019 Been done many times, but not that far forward.
Baller skibrain Posted August 22, 2019 Baller Share Posted August 22, 2019 Bad idea. I’ve been on the receiving end of dad-engineering cheap-out. When I was a kid my dad cut three inches of front and tapered 6” off the tail of a concave wood slalom. I knew no better, but it was hard to ski and I had nasty falls. For two years. Demoed my first real slalom ski at end of that and difference was HUGE. You want him to love the sport? If he’s outgrown the Amigo, get him a used real ski that will give him the best experience rather than a crappy one.
Baller DavidN Posted August 22, 2019 Baller Share Posted August 22, 2019 Circa 2007 I skied with Drew Ross and he “engineered” something similar for his daughter Neilly. Can’t be too bad obviously. ;)
Baller Mateo_Vargas Posted August 22, 2019 Baller Share Posted August 22, 2019 Get him on the 63" Radar TRA, he'll love it.
Baller skihart Posted August 23, 2019 Baller Share Posted August 23, 2019 Matt Rini did that for Paige years ago and many people have done the same. Works great but I think you cut too much off. I think he did 59. Rounded the back sanded and cut in a new slot for the fin. Then had to drill for the Wiley bindings.
Rob-K200
Just curious, is that a tail weight at the back of your Jr amigo?
Baller_ Wish Posted August 23, 2019 Baller_ Share Posted August 23, 2019 Yep. Did it for my daughter ..twice. Worked both times. Better then investing big bucks only to find out they become disinterested in skiing.
Baller skibrain Posted August 23, 2019 Baller Share Posted August 23, 2019 Amigo 135 is 53” long. Curve on the tip starts at about the back edge of the red “D”. Instead of forgiving flat spot under foot, he’ll have curved ski under foot. Take video.
Baller_ Bruce_Butterfield Posted August 23, 2019 Baller_ Share Posted August 23, 2019 an inch or 2 off the tail would be fine, but as others have said you cut waaaay too much off. The jr amigo is a much better option for an 8yo. First choice is the jr amigo, second choice is a 63-65" stable adult slalom ski. If it was easy, they would call it Wakeboarding
Baller LoopSki Posted August 23, 2019 Author Baller Share Posted August 23, 2019 i had no choice where to cut, the ski was completely snapped. probably will get him an Obrien jr Siege. just thought it might be a fun project to try.
walleye
I believe paige was in shortline setting records. Focus on stacked position thru the wakes. At slower speeds the wakes are big.Teach Creating space from the buoy so they learn backslding the buoy, Not skiing to it. A Longer ski will help achieve this with fewer OTF. When teaching stacked position shorter skiis have a greater chance of OTF. To many focus on turns - the ski will turn if you ski wide enough with space. I am Not a fan of the wide skiis due to a flat knife thru butter verses the cutting edge. If a wide ski is used for the purpose of getting up. Use easy up handle - It can also be used in tournaments. Adult skiis up to 67inch equipped with proper binders work well IE use one of your old hi end skiis. I have used Goode 9800's all will work. I believe rear toe helps junior skiers achieve stacked position. Double boots locks them up into dumpy butt position and sometimes stays with them creating a sqatty skier. Baller LoopSki Posted August 26, 2019 Author Baller Share Posted August 26, 2019 Decided the Nomad was too short, i just had no choice where to cut it as it was snapped. So I made him one out of my old X7. FYI I tried him on a 63" this weekend and its just too big . This ski is about a 58". Trying it out after school. Baller Andre Posted August 26, 2019 Baller Share Posted August 26, 2019 Looks Goode! How much and what's your warranty? :) How did you determine where the front boot goes? My ski finish in 16.95 but my ass is out of tolerance!
