Baller_ Wish Posted October 31, 2019 Baller_ Share Posted October 31, 2019 It's in a 2003 SN. Is that an Excalibur? Never seen one with the red plastic cover off.
Baller dave2ball Posted October 31, 2019 Baller Share Posted October 31, 2019 Looks like a Chevy 350 or ford 351. It could be the smaller ford 5.0 Nautique offered as a cheaper alternative
Baller Mateo_Vargas Posted October 31, 2019 Baller Share Posted October 31, 2019 It's a Chevy. The distributor on Fords are in the front.

Baller dvskier Posted October 31, 2019 Baller Share Posted October 31, 2019 Excalibur 330.
Baller 2Valve Posted October 31, 2019 Baller Share Posted October 31, 2019 Its a Throttle Body equipped 350 Chevy. (Probably Vortec based), putting out about 310-315hp. Bulletproof motor IF properly maintained. Mine has over 900 hrs.
Baller dave2ball Posted October 31, 2019 Baller Share Posted October 31, 2019 @Mateo_Vargas good catch. I missed that. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut. Congrats you found your nut.
Baller_ Wish Posted October 31, 2019 Author Baller_ Share Posted October 31, 2019 I thought throttle body as well. Anyone wanna break the tie?? We have one for Ex330 MPI and one for throttle body injected. Maybe take a pic of a matching motor and post.
Baller 2Valve Posted October 31, 2019 Baller Share Posted October 31, 2019 I'll vote again. I don't see a fuel rail, as found in Multi port engines. One other observation. In 2002, PCM switched from throttle body injection to Multi port. My boat is a 2002 but has the throttle body system. Talked to PCM some years ago, and it was a matter of using up inventory. But I might have some questions if the boat in question is a 2003.
Baller_ Wish Posted October 31, 2019 Author Baller_ Share Posted October 31, 2019 Ya, was lookn for the fuel rail as well. Maybe it's down lower??
Baller BraceMaker Posted October 31, 2019 Baller Share Posted October 31, 2019 I'm going MPI - the TBI would have to be centered in the manifold in order to avoid having vastly different lengths of intake runners from cylinder to cylinder as the fuel charge is injected at the throttle body. The MPI has the throttle body itself off center which is OK because the fuel is injected right intake valve.
Baller Sethro Posted October 31, 2019 Baller Share Posted October 31, 2019 It's just the excalibur 330 without the plastic shroud covering everything on top.
Baller jhughes Posted October 31, 2019 Baller Share Posted October 31, 2019 Excal 330 from V-Belts, PP servo position, etc.
Baller swc5150 Posted October 31, 2019 Baller Share Posted October 31, 2019 That's def an excal 330MPI. CC didn't offer a TBI in 2003. Options back then were: * 5.0 MPI * 5.7 Excal MPI * 6.0 MPI * 8.1 Python MPI
Baller_ Wish Posted October 31, 2019 Author Baller_ Share Posted October 31, 2019 @swc5150 and the 5.0 is a Ford?
Baller swc5150 Posted October 31, 2019 Baller Share Posted October 31, 2019 @Wish PCM's 5.0 was a GM 305.
Baller_ Jody_Seal Posted October 31, 2019 Baller_ Share Posted October 31, 2019 Excalibur 5.7 350 ci mefi 4b, 3 bolt throttle body. with v-belts, the next year they went to serpentine belt. Can be converted to E-control to facilitate zero off..
Baller_ Wish Posted October 31, 2019 Author Baller_ Share Posted October 31, 2019 So it is throttle body injected? Horse power??
Baller_ Jody_Seal Posted October 31, 2019 Baller_ Share Posted October 31, 2019 You can identify a 343 from a 330 by how many fasteners connecting the throttle body/air Valve to the upper intake manifold. 330 has three bolts and a 343 has 4 and yes the calibrations are different. No it is not a tbi, it is sequential fuel injection, 8 injectors and a controlled fuel rail on the intake manifold.

Baller_ Wish Posted November 2, 2019 Author Baller_ Share Posted November 2, 2019 2 more questions. Is the 5.0 ZO compatible? What's it's horse power?
Baller swc5150 Posted November 2, 2019 Baller Share Posted November 2, 2019 5.0 was 275hp. I have no idea about ZO compatibility though? I’ve skied behind that motor and it’s no slouch at all in the 196.
Baller dvskier Posted November 2, 2019 Baller Share Posted November 2, 2019 @Wish Jody Seal converted a friends 5.0 SN to ZO a few years back. My buddy has no complaints, says it skis great.
Baller thager Posted November 2, 2019 Baller Share Posted November 2, 2019 S.0L to ZO? If you change engine maybe!
Baller Orlando76 Posted November 2, 2019 Baller Share Posted November 2, 2019 How can you tell difference between a 305 and 350 of that era? My buddy’s boat is an 07 with what is badged as 5.0 330hp. I have a feeling it’s all labeled incorrectly and is a 5.7 350 ci 330hp Excalibur. It was probably one of the first SN to leave SECC with ZO installed new. Baller_ Wish Posted November 2, 2019 Author Baller_ Share Posted November 2, 2019 Helping a new neighbor and friend find a boat to use on the lake. He's lookn in the $10-12k range and came accross a 5.0 in an 03. So wondered if its ZO compatible since I've never seen that engine before. The one pictured at the top was in an 03 as well. Both slightly more then his budget. He's interested in converting to ZO down the road. But ZO is not imperative and the bubble butts are high on the list especially with the good reviews on the latest PP software.
Baller vtjc Posted November 3, 2019 Baller Share Posted November 3, 2019 Sounds like a worthy search. I enjoy my 196. While the GM 305 & 350’s are aging they have been made and installed in new boats more recently than the Ford’s so likely will have parts available longer.
