Baller Justin Posted January 23, 2020 Baller Share Posted January 23, 2020 Just seeing what or if anyone is using any Head gear for spring / fall skiing? Waterproof? Toque? Drysuit works great but my melon tends to freeze up....
Baller UWSkier Posted January 23, 2020 Baller Share Posted January 23, 2020 Swim cap? My biggest issue in the cold is keeping my ears warm. Cold air blasted into your ear canals really messes with your balance.
Baller cougfan Posted January 23, 2020 Baller Share Posted January 23, 2020 @Justin @Rednucleus put me onto this beanie. It is made by Mystic and is made of neoprene. They have 2 sizes Small/Medium and Large/Xlarge. They work super at keeping your head dry and warm. They come with a draw string for any adjustments
Baller rico Posted January 23, 2020 Baller Share Posted January 23, 2020 Best thing ever!
Baller BrennanKMN Posted January 23, 2020 Baller Share Posted January 23, 2020 I've always just warn a regular old headband. Just keep it dry at each end and you're fine. It's mostly for my ears, cold water and air hurts!
Baller wawaskr Posted January 23, 2020 Baller Share Posted January 23, 2020 Neo beanie or Neo headband
Baller fu_man Posted January 23, 2020 Baller Share Posted January 23, 2020 I use similar to what Rico posted. Works reasonably well. However if you do fall and a bit of water gets in there it is impossible to hear.
Baller_ Rednucleus Posted January 24, 2020 Baller_ Share Posted January 24, 2020 I prefer the Mystic (nice gift from my daughter) over the neoprene hood, which I used for years. I can hear better and have less problems with wind getting in around the hood. I also have a nice headband with a draw string (can't find it listed anymore) that I like when it starts to warm up. Baller rodecon Posted January 24, 2020 Baller Share Posted January 24, 2020 Camaro makes a nice neo beanie as well
Baller rico Posted January 24, 2020 Baller Share Posted January 24, 2020 but the hood prevents that horrible spray in your neck when you drop at the end of the lake.
Baller igkya Posted January 24, 2020 Baller Share Posted January 24, 2020 Just a swim cap for me. Tried the Camaro top, very nice, but kept coming off, even after I tightened it.
Baller cougfan Posted January 24, 2020 Baller Share Posted January 24, 2020 No problem with the Mystic beanie coming off. Just tighten the draw string. @Rednucleus and I have used this beanie a bunch without any problems
Baller bikesrus Posted January 24, 2020 Baller Share Posted January 24, 2020 Neo headband! Makes skiing in the high 40s/low 50s a little better.
Baller BCM Posted January 24, 2020 Baller Share Posted January 24, 2020 I use a neo beanie, doesn't come off. When I get pulled out of the water a little water splashes and and can create some weird pressure stuff with my ears, nothing painful, just annoying. I tend to roll the back/sides up over my ears until I am out of the water. I believe mine came from ONeil, hasn't come of in 4 winters of skiing and keeps the head warm in 34* water with air in the 30s.
Baller mfjaegersr Posted January 24, 2020 Baller Share Posted January 24, 2020 O’Neill Neo Beanie here too. Must have, particularly for the follically-challenged. Baller ToddA Posted January 26, 2020 Baller Share Posted January 26, 2020 I use a neo O'Neill beanie, then use a fleece balaclava over that. Keeps my ears and cheeks warm without disturbing your hearing, and the balaclava also keeps the neo beanie on the case of a fall.
Baller Drbach Posted January 26, 2020 Baller Share Posted January 26, 2020 Swim cap works well for me. Cheap and if it comes off, it floats (get a bright color). Keep a couple in the boat for other skiers to use if needed.
Baller bishop8950 Posted January 27, 2020 Baller Share Posted January 27, 2020 I use a swim cap. Hair stays dry and warm and it covers my forehead @rico when you drop, and right before you settle Down into the water, turn your ski a bit to one side or the other and the spray will not hit you in the neck or back of your head. Baller rico Posted January 27, 2020 Baller Share Posted January 27, 2020 Ah I know the technique but haven’t mastered it yet. I love my hood but I know others who tried it struggle having their ears covered.
