Filing screw holes in binding plate?

I recently bought first ski (Connelly V) and set of bindings (Radar Profile) and went to attach the front binding, but the holes are ever so slightly off with the binding plate so it is always tough to screw in one of the screws since it rubs against the screw slot in the plate. I don't want to force it since I've heard broken inserts are a huge pain to fix. Should I just take a file and expand the slots on the plate where the screws go in?

 

This is what I would plan on doing, just file a tiny bit like this on all the slots

File away. But save the effort set to the right dft. Then file the quarter inch around where you use it not the whole thing

Not sure what you mean by this "But save the effort set to the right dft". But i think I have a small circular file that I should be able to use to file right where the screw was hitting.

Yes by all means, file the slots. But usually in cases like this you can put all six screws in place by hand or screwdriver, just don’t screw them down... keep the plate lifted above the ski to give you some play in order for the screws to align with the inserts. Then when all six are in place, screw them down tight.

Most of the times this works... if it doesn’t then file the slots.

Sorry - just mean that when the boot is roughly where you want it you'll find that a small round file like you mention and just a smidge of the plate along the slot which will let it bolt down.

I had the same issue when I mounted my radar vapor bindings to my HO omni. I used a drill bit that was a little wider then the slot at the spot I needed the screw to go.

Is it just me, or is this a radar binding thing? In my family we’ve got skis and bindings from several manufacturers. Radar bindings always seem to need a little persuading to fit other skis. Others seem interchangeable without filing or drilling.

following up on @Clydesdale's Radar binding thing, do the plate holes for Radar Vapor Carbitex align well with the inserts on D3 skis?

@pregom 2019 radar binding required some persuasion with drill/file to fit d3 helix h2. Your experience may vary.
